BRINGING LEADING TECHNOLOGY TO NEW ZEALAND

OUR RECENT WORK

AIR NEW ZEALAND – CASE STUDY

Kiwi EncounterIn 2004, Kiwi Encounter was opened at RainbowSprings, the largest, most successful kiwi hatchingfacility in the world Rainbow Springs Rotorua andtheir parent Ngai Tahu Tourism asked ... ‘Can MercuryNZ support the Kiwi cause?’. Mercury decided to giftfree energy every day the sun shines by connectingthe Kiwi Encounter to Mercury Solar & Tesla energystorage on the planned new complex so we couldhelp keep the light shinning on Kiwi conservation.

PRODUCTS, RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

OUR DEDICATED SOLAR RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

We have built a research and development centre for solar generation, solar battery storage and other energy technologies here in Auckland.

The centre is a test bed for solar technology not seen in New Zealand before.

The centre’s focus on wholly renewable generation from solar and battery storage to other technologies has the potential to unlock new value and choice for Kiwi consumers and businesses.

PROPOSAL

Design, Supply, and Install Off-Grid PV SOLAR SYSTEMS FOR:

Muriwai Valley Farm Enterprises

SUGGESTED PANEL LAYOUT FOR EACH HOME ( SHOW HOME USED AS AN EXAMPLE)

The drawing on the left hand side shows the layout of the panels. There is a total of 36 x 305W (10.98kWp) modules flush mounted on the north facing roof.

This would be connected to 2 x SMA Sunny Boy 5.0 inverters.

Estimated Production would be 15,323 kWh/year.

This system will be connected to 1 x SMA Sunny Island 8.0H battery inverter which would be managing 2 * BYD B-Box Pro 13.8 ( 13.8kWh’s) Li-Ion battery modules.

CABLE DESIGN AND LAYOUT

The inverters both the Sunny Boy 5.0 and the Sunny Island 8.0H are rated to be installed outside.

The BYD batteries are IP20 rated. They will need to be installed in an enclosed area. Ideally all this equipment can be installed in the Garage if there is one. We would recommend that the switch board be located in the garage as well.

The Panels need to be installed and the wiring need to be done when the roof is on and before the gibbing is done.

The final commissioning will be done once all other electrical work has been completed. This will involve installing the inverters and batteries and any inspections that are required.

CALCULATION SOLAR SYSTEM

The solar system of 10.98 kWp array is expected to generate approximately 15,323 kWh per annum. The table below provides a breakdown of the monthly production.

RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE

Your solar PV system requires very little maintenance. User maintenance should be restricted to:

PV modules: Cleaning the solar PV modules using a soft brush with a mild detergent & water solution. A extended long pole can be used to extend the accessibility of the panels. Recommended cleaning periods would be 12 months for PV modules that are installed on a medium or steep pitched roof, tilt mounted PV modules, and ground mounted PV modules. For PV modules that are mounted on shallow pitched roofs, the cleaning frequency should be on an bi-annual basis. Build of dust and dirt can affect the performance of the PV modules, so it is essential that the PV modules do not become heavily soiled. The amount of electricity generated by a solar module is proportional to the mount of light falling on it. A module with shaded cells will produce less energy and therefore it is important to keep modules clean.Clean PV modules when the irradiance is below 200W/m2; liquid with a largetemperature difference from the modules shall not be used for cleaning the modules.

We can offer a cleaning/maintenance contract. Price for this can be discussed at a later stage. This includes a inspection of the panels , inverters , batteries and any wiring back to the inverter.
