North Texas Wine Drive & Vineyard Adventure

After the spring lock down for the COVID-19 virus 22 members of the North Texas Section met on a beautiful Texas Morning at the McKinney Texas QT for a drive and wine tasting event. Texas has developed into a major source of wine vineyards and North Texas has some excellent wineries. The first stop after a great back roads drive was at the Square Cloud Winery. The Andersons, who are the owners of the vineyard, gave a great presentation on the wine industry which was followed by a sampling of their wines. After the tasting the group met on the veranda of the winery for snacks and fellowship. The next stop after a beautiful drive was to the Eden Hill Winery and Vineyard. The group enjoyed more fellowship and sampling of Texas wines. What great fun and Mel and Eve Kym were the hosts for this fun adventure.

July/August 2020President’s Message

Welcome!

We’ve just completed our private group tour of the brand-new Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers baseball club. On Saturday, June 27th thirty-two North Texas section members and guests registered for our behind the scenes guided tour.

On May 20th, 2016 the Rangers announced that they would vacate Globe Life Park in Arlington and construct a new home with a retractable roof to be named Globe Life Field. The Rangers had cited weather as the reason attendances at Globe Life Park were lower than in other baseball stadiums in major metropolitan areas, since it was prone to high temperatures and rain delays.

Globe Life Field was originally scheduled to open March 23, 2020, but opened instead for high school graduations on May 29, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the baseball season. Globe Life Field has a capacity of 40,300 and cost 1.2 billion dollars.

The North Texas Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA) is dedicated to enhancing the ownership experience of the finest automobiles in the world. We engage in a variety of activities throughout the year that hopefully appeal to a broad section of our membership.

Currently our membership totals almost 1000 members who are committed to furthering their experience and enjoyment of their cars. Whether you’re a gear head, performance driver, rally enthusiast, cultural maven or social mingler, the MBCA North Texas Section had an upcoming event for you. Check out the Events section to see what’s coming up during the year, and for details on events that are just over the horizon.

Unfortunately, negative local newspaper publicity 6/27/20 concerning coronavirus outbreaks at Globe Life Field limited our actual attendance to 20 members and guests.

Scheduling and planning member activities in light of the COVID-19 pandemic is and will continue to be challenging, but our recent experience illustrates that our members are eager to participate in safe activities. Due to the statewide mandates that limit group size will necessarily determine that we postpone membership lunches and possibly our annual picnic. In July we have another events planning meeting and I’m sure we’ll be looking at all of the options. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Mel Kym organized and coordinated a well-attended driving event 6/20/20 the weekend just before our Globe Life Field tour. Mel’s events are always fun and entertaining and indeed registration had to be curtailed to prevent crowding. If you have a chance to register for one of Mel’s driving opportunities, I suggest you jump on it. Mel has been threatening to leave north Texas for retirement in Mexico. He will be missed!

As always, we welcome your suggestions to make our club better and more relevant to you and your lifestyle. We have a different world ahead of us, but hopefully not everything will be virtual as we zoom to the future.

Very sincerely,Craig HalversonPresident, North Texas Section

On May 27, the North Texas Section had a private group tour of the brand-new Globe Life Field, the new home of the Texas Rangers baseball club. Twenty North Texas section members and guests attended the behind the scenes guided tour.

Globe Life Field was originally scheduled to open March 23, 2020 but opened instead for high school graduations on May 29, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the baseball season. Globe Life Field has a capacity of 40,300 and cost 1.2 billion dollars. A truly impressive place to play baseball.

MBCA NTX Granbury Drive & Brewery Tour

September 26, 2020 * Granbury, TX

Join us for a fun day in Granbury, TX. We will visit Revolver Brewing Company to sample some of their fine beers, listen to a brewery presentation and enjoy live entertainment. Prior to stopping at Revolver, we will enjoy lunch at The Rib Shack. This is a really great BBQ place located close to the brewery. After the brewery visit, we will proceed to Granbury’s famous square for some antique shopping. If you don’t want to shop, there are several great restaurants and bars located on the square, too!

The Revolver Brewing $10 admission fee includes 4, 8oz pours of beer, a Revolver souvenir beer glass, the brewery presentation, and live entertainment. Pay your own admission. The brewery has plenty of picnic tables, but it’ll be prudent to bring lawn chairs just in case.

Lunch will be at the Rib Shack. This is a great BBQ place where we will grab lunch and arrive at the brewery with a full stomach.

“Mercedes”: The Brand Name That Shines Out for Over 120 Years

A good brand name has international appeal. “Mercedes” is one of the most famous and most traditional: from 1900 onwards, it was used to brand the innovative passenger cars made by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, and, together with its outstanding vehicle and engine technology, it gave the company worldwide recognition and thus shaped personal mobility as a whole. In 1926, the brand was extended to produce Mercedes-Benz – while its significance on all continents remained unchanged. For the oldest luxury car brand in the world, its name is both the basis and incentive to carry this outstanding tradition into the future.
