NOTE: Compliance with these withholding periods will ensure that residues do not

Handle concentrate with care. Poisonous when absorbed through the skin or swallowed or inhaled. Toxic to fish, bees and wildlife. Store in a cool place, away from food and feedstuffs. Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. FLAMMABLE - keep away from heat and flames. AERIAL APPLICATION: Notify all inhabitants of the immediate area to be sprayed and issue the necessary warnings. Do not spray over or allow drift to contaminate water or adjacent areas.

Although this remedy has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions the registration holder does not warrant that it will be efficacious under all conditions because the action and effect thereof may be affected by factors such as abnormal climatic and storage conditions; compatibility with other substances not indicated on the label and the occurrence of resistance of the pest against the remedy concerned as well as by the method, time and accuracy of application. The registration holder furthermore does not accept responsibility for damage to crops, vegetation, the environment or harm to man or animal or for lack of performance of the remedy concerned due to failure of the user to follow the label instructions or to the occurrence of conditions which could not have been foreseen in terms of the registration. Consult the supplier or registration holder in the event of any uncertainty.


PRECAUTIONS Do not breathe fumes or spray mist. Wear protective clothing, suitable mask, goggles, rubber gloves and boots. Wash contaminated clothing daily. Wash with soap and water immediately after accidental skin contact. Prevent drift onto other crops, grazing, rivers, dams or areas not under treatment. Clean applicator after use and dispose of wash water where it will not contaminate food, grazing, rivers or dams. Destroy empty container and never use for any other purpose. Prevent contamination of food, feed, drinking water and eating utensils. Rinse empty container three times with a volume of water equal to a minimum of 10 % of that of the container. Add the rinsings to the container of the spray tank before destroying the container in the prescribed manner. Destroy empty container by perforating and flattening and never use for any other purpose. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Use only as indicated AERIAL APPLICATION Aerial application may only be done by a registered aerial application operator using a registered and correctly calibrated aircraft according to the instructions of SANS Code 10118 (Aerial Application of Agricultural Remedies). It is important to ensure that the spray mixture is distributed evenly over the target area and that the loss of spray material during application is restricted to a minimum. It is therefore essential that the following criteria be met; Equipment

Use suitable atomising equipment (hydraulic nozzles or rotary atomisers) that will produce the desired droplet size and coverage of the target area and will ensure the minimum loss of product through drift.

The operator must use a nozzle set-up that will produce a droplet spectrum with the lowest possible relative span.

All nozzles and atomisers should be positioned within the inner 75% of the wingspan to prevent droplets from entering the wingtip vortices.

Application Parameters

A minimum volume of 30 spray mixture per ha is recommended. As this product has not been evaluated at a reduced volume rate, the registration holder cannot guarantee efficacy nor be held responsible for any adverse effects if this product is applied aerially at a lower volume rate than recommended.

A droplet coverage of 30 – 40 droplets per sq cm must be recovered at the target.

A droplet spectrum with a VMD of 250 – 280 microns is recommended. Ensure that the production of fine droplets, with a VMD less than 150 microns, is restricted to a minimum.

The height of the spray boom should be maintained at between 3 and 4m above the target.

Do not spray when the aircraft is in a climb, at the top of a turn or during a dive or when banking.

Apply before the crop growth becomes too dense, which will interfere with overall plant coverage.


Meteorological Conditions

The difference between the wet and dry bulb readings as determined by a whirling hygrometer, must not exceed 8 ºC.

Do not spray under turbulent, unstable conditions nor during the heat of the day when rising thermals and downdraughts occur.

Do not spray under temperature inversion conditions (spraying in or above the inversion layer).

Do not spray when the wind speed exceeds 15 km per hour. General

Ensure that fields are accurately marked and that the aerial spray operator knows exactly which fields to spray.

Obtain an assurance from the aerial spray operator that the above requirements will be met.

COMPATIBILITY FOR FOLIAR COVER APPLICATIONS Generally compatible with all insecticides and fungicides for foliar cover applications. When mixed with alkaline products (Lime sulphur, Bordeaux mixture), the initial kills are satisfactory but the residual toxicity may be reduced. MIXING INSTRUCTIONS pH of the spray water The efficacy of MERCAPTOTION 500 EC may be reduced by very hard water (> 1000 p.p.m solutes) and by water with a high pH value. When MERCAPTOTION 500 EC is used, the optimal efficacy thereof will be obtained in water of pH 4,5 - 5,5. Water of a higher or lower pH than 4,5 - 5,5 should be buffered to pH 4,5 - 5,5 by using CURABUFF 500 SL (Reg. No. L 4731). Where CURABUFF 500 SL is used to adjust the pH of the water the CURABUFF 500 SL must be mixed with the total volume of water required for that particular tank mixture before adding the MERCAPTOTION 500 EC. Use the spray mixture without delay and do not allow to stand for prolonged periods. All spray applications must be made with suitable equipment that is in good working order and correctly calibrated to give the desired coverage for that particular method of application.


Application of Fruit fly bait: Fruit fly baits should not be applied as full cover applications or by equipment that provides a cover effect on the plants or fruit, but rather as scattered coarse droplets 1000 – 3000 µ VMD, aimed to the inside of tree canopies and underside of the leaves. In order to obtain this the following may be considered as guideline: Use a thin solid stream application which is obtained when using a “Spraying Systems” D2 or D3 orifice plate without the whirl plate at 1,5 – 3 Bar. The solid stream(s) should be aimed upwards into the tree canopy. By doing so the thin slid stream(s), when striking the leaves, fruit or branches, will break up in desired scattered droplets inside the tree canopy with minimum bait residues on the outside of the tree canopy or fruit. It is important that the solid stream should not be too thick (eg. using orifices that are too big). The number of nozzles used will depend on the calibration requirement for the specific crop, equipment, ground speed, etc. Do not add any other product(s) to bait mixtures.

Hou buite bereik van kinders, oningeligte persone en diere. VLAMBAAR - hou weg van hitte en vlamme. LUGTOEDIENING: Stel alle inwoners in die nabye omgewing van die lugbespuitingsarea in kennis en reik die nodige waarskuwings uit. Voorkom besoedeling en wegdrywe van spuitnewel na water of aangrensende gewasse en gebiede.

Alhoewel hierdie middel omvattend onder 'n groot verskeidenheid toestande getoets is waarborg die registrasiehouer nie dat dit onder alle toestande doeltreffend sal wees nie aangesien die werking en effek daarvan beïnvloed kan word deur faktore soos abnormale klimaats- en bergingstoestande; verenigbaarbaarheid met ander stowwe wat nie op die etiket aangedui is nie en die voorkoms van weerstand van die plaag teen die betrokke middel sowel as die metode, tyd en akkuraatheid van toediening. Verder aanvaar die registrasiehouer nie verantwoordelikheid vir skade aan gewasse, plantegroei, die omgewing of vir nadelige effek op mens of dier of vir 'n gebrek aan prestasie van die betrokke middel as gevolg van die versuim van die gebruiker om etiketaanwysings na te kom of as gevolg van die ontstaan van toestande wat nie kragtens die registrasie voorsien kon word nie. Raadpleeg die verskaffer of registrasiehouer in die geval van enige onsekerheid.


VOORSORGMAATREËLS Vermy inaseming van spuitnewel of dampe. Dra beskermende klere, 'n geskikte masker, beskermende bril, rubberhandskoene en stewels. Was besoedelde klere daagliks. Was dadelik met seep en water na toevallige velkontak. Voorkom besoedeling van ander gewasse, weiding, riviere, damme en enige gebied nie onder behandeling nie. Maak toedieningsapparaat deeglik skoon na gebruik en gooi spoelwater uit waar dit nie voedsel, weiding, riviere of damme sal besoedel nie. Spoel leë houer drie keer uit met 'n volume water gelykstaande aan 'n minimum van 10 % van die houer. Gooi die spoelwater by die inhoud van die spuittenk voordat die houer op die voorgeskrewe wyse vernietig word. Vernietig leë houer deur gate in te slaan en plat te druk en moet nie vir enige ander doel gebruik nie. Voorkom besoedeling van voedsel, voer, drinkwater en eetgerei. GEBRUIKSAANWYSINGS: Gebruik alleenlik soos aangedui LUGTOEDIENING

Lugtoediening mag slegs deur ‘n geregistreerde lugbespuitingsoperateur met ‘n geregistreerde en korrek gekalibreerde vliegtuig volgens die instruksies van SANS Kode 10118 (Aerial Application of Agricultural Remedies) gedoen word. Dit is belangrik om te verseker dat die spuitmengsel eweredig oor die teikenarea versprei word en dat die verlies aan spuitmengsel tydens toediening tot ‘n minimum beperk word. Die volgende kriteria moet nagekom word; Toerusting

Gebruik geskikte atomiseringsapparaat (hidroliese of roterende spuitkoppe) wat die vereiste druppelgrootte en bedekking van die teiken sal produseer, maar wat die minste verlies van produk deur wegdrywing sal verseker.

Die operateur moet ‘n spuitstelsel gebruik wat ‘n druppelspektrum met die kleinste moontlike relatiewe span sal produseer.

Al die spuitkoppe en atomiseerders moet in die binneste 75% van die vlerkspan geplaas word om die beweging van druppels in die vlerkvorteks in te beperk.

Toedieningsvereistes

‘n Minimum volume van 30 spuitmengsel per ha word aanbeveel. Aangesien hierdie produk nie teen ‘n verlaagde spuitvolume getoets is nie, kan die registrasiehouer nie effektiwiteit waarborg of verantwoordelik gehou word vir enige nadelige effek indien hierdie produk teen ‘n laer volume as hierbo aanbeveel, uit die lug toegedien word nie.

‘n Druppelbedekking van 30 - 40 druppels per vk cm moet op die teikenarea herwin word.

‘n Druppelspektrum met ‘n VMD van 250 - 280 mikron word aanbeveel. Verseker dat die produksie van fyn druppels, die wat kleiner as 150 mikron is, tot ‘n minimum beperk word.

Die hoogte van die spuitbalk moet tussen 3 en 4m bo die teiken gehandhaaf word.

Moet nie spuit wanneer die vliegtuig aan die bopunt van ‘n draai is of tydens ‘n duik of terwyl dit uitklim of draai nie.

Dien toe voordat die gewas te ruig word aangesien die druppelbedekking op die plante sal verminder word.


Meteorologiese Toestande

Die verskil tussen die nat- en droëbollesing, soos met ‘n swaaihigrometer bepaal, moet nie 8 ºC oorskry nie.

Moenie toedien tydens turbulente en onstabiele weerstoestande of gedeurende die hitte van die dag wanneer styg en dalende konveksie windbeweging plaasvind nie.

Moenie toedien onder temperatuur inversie toestande (deur bo of binne die inversie laag te spuit) nie.

Moenie spuit indien die windspoed 15 km per uur oorskry nie. Algemeen

Sorg dat die lande akkuraat gemerk is en die spuitoperateur presies weet watter lande gespuit moet word.

Verkry ‘n versekering van die spuitoperateur dat aan die bogenoemde vereistes voldoen sal word.

VERENIGBAARHEID VIR VOLLE DEKBESPUITINGS Oor die algemeen verenigbaar met alle insektemiddels en swamdoders vir volle dekbespuitings. Wanneer met alkaliese produkte (Kalkswael en Bordeaux mengsel) gemeng word, sal die aanvanklike dood van insekte bevredigend wees, maar die residuele nawerking mag verminder word. MENGINSTRUKSIES pH van die verdunningswater MERCAPTOTION 500 EC se doeltreffendheid kan benadeel word deur baie harde water (>1000 d.p.m. opgeloste stowwe) en deur water met ‘n hoë pH-waarde. Wanneer MERCAPTOTION 500 EC gebruik word sal die optimale werking daarvan in verdunningswater met ‘n pH waarde van 4,5-5,5 verkry word. Verdunningswater met ‘n hoër of laer pH waarde as 4,5-5,5 moet gebuffer word met CURABUFF 500 SL (Reg. Nr. L4731) tot by pH 4,5-5,5. Wanneer CURABUFF 500 SL gebruik word om die verdunningswater te buffer, moet die CURABUFF 500 SL eers met die totale water wat vir die betrokke tenkmengsel benodig word vermeng word en daarna word die MERCAPTOTION 500 EC bygevoeg. Aangemaakte spuitmengsel moet nie in die spuittenk gelaat word vir ‘n onbepaalde tyd nie, byvoorbeeld oornag. Alle toedienings moet gemaak word met geskikte toerusting wat in goeie werkende toestand en korrek gekalibreer is ten einde die verlangde bedekking te gee vir die betrokke toedieningsmetode.


Toediening vir Vrugtevlieg-lokaas: Vrugtevlieglokaas moet nie as volle loofbespuiting, of met toerusting wat ‘n volle loofbespuitingseffek op plante of vrugte tot gevolg het, toegedien word nie. Dit moet verkieslik in growwe druppels van ongeveer 1000 – 3000 µ VMB, wat na die binnekant van die blaredek en onderkant van blare gerig word, toegedien word. Om dit te verkry kan die volgende metode as riglyn gebruik word: Gebruik ‘n toedieningsmetode wat ‘n dun soliede straal produseer soos bv. met “Spraying Systems” D2 en D3 spuitplaatjie sonder ‘n warrelplaatjie teen 1,5 – 3 Bar druk verkry word. Rig die straaltjie(s) skuins opwaarts in die blaredek van vrugtebome. Wanneer die straaltjie(s) enige obstruksie soos vrugte, blare of takkies tref, sal dit in growwe druppels van gewensde grootte opbreek en in die binnekant van die boom versprei. Dit het ook tot gevolg dat minimale lokaasreste aan die buitekant van die blaredek of op vrugte versamel. Dit is belangrik dat die straal nie te grof is nie (soos verkry wanneer ‘n spuitplaatjie met ‘n te groot gat gebruik word). Die aantal spuitkoppe wat gebruik word sal afhang van die kalibrasie vereiste vir ‘n spesifieke gewas, toerusting, grondspoed, ens. Moenie enige ander produk(te) by lokaasmengsels voeg nie.
