METHOD STATEMENT
MEP TRAY
Modular Extensive Green Roof
1. Preparation of MEP Tray for Pre-planting
MT MStmt Ver2012(Jan) Page 3
1.1 Position Support Plate over MEP Tray reservoir
1.2 Custom fit Plate leaves no gap along tray wall that may allow
planting media to enter reservoir
1.3 Ensure Support Plate anti-root overflow outlet covers fit over
tray outlets
1.4 Insert capillary wicks into the slits found in 3 rows on the
Support Plate.
1.5 Hold capillary wick strip down against Support Plate along
tray wall and use a long flat tool (metal ruler or like tool) to
push a section through into reservoir
1.6 Similarly, hold the capillary wick against Support Plate outside
subsequent slit at and push another section of capillary
wick into reservoir. Repeat for remaining slits in the row.
1.7 Repeat 1.5 and 1.6 for remaining rows
1.8 Position custom-cut Geotextile Filter over Support Plate.

1.8 Ensure Geotextile Filter is in direct contact with capillary wicks
to enable water from reservoir to be transferred via capillary
action to planting medium above
1.8 Interlock 6 grid strips at their overlapping points to form
Confinement Grid
Slot ends into corresponding pockets along tray wall

1.9 Slot Grid ends into corresponding pockets along tray walls to
prevent dislodgement
1.10 In-fill inorganic planting mix into tray until level with top of
Confinement Grid
2. PRE-PLANT IN NURSERY PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
2.1 Plant selected drought-tolerant extensive green roof plants.
2.2 Allow plant establishment in nursery environment for about 8
to 12 weeks prior to installation
1. PREPARATION OF ROOF SLAB
1.1 Mark out area of roof to be planted
1.2 Ensure fall is towards drainage outlet/s or over roof edge
1.3 Allow 500mm maintenance path around perimeter

1.3 Lay perimeter guide-lines (same height as trays) to aid in
alignment of trays
2. FIRST TRAY IN FIRST HORIZONTAL ROW
2.1 Ensure that all 6 polyurethane seals of Base Connector are
secure
2.2 Connect drainage pipes to base connector (upslope side
only for all trays in the 1st horizontal row)
2.3 Ensure that base connector directional arrows point down
slope
2.4 Attach rodent barriers to all 4 corners of tray
Down Slope arrows
Down Slope
All seals securely in place
Pipes connected to up slope side of Base
Connector only for trays in 1
st horizontal row
Insert Rodent Barriers

2.5 Face downslope throughout installation
2.6 Install first tray at bottom left corner of grid
2.7 Tray directional arrows point down slope
2.8 Align left and front sides of tray with guide-lines
2.9 Insert overflow outlet points of tray into base connector
3. SUBSEQUENT TRAYS OF HORIZONTAL ROW
3.1 Install trays in horizontal row from left to right of grid
3.2 Repeat steps 2.1 to 2.7
1st Tray at Bottom left corner
Down Slope Arrows face dpwn slope

3.3 Overlap left flange of tray with right flange of neighbouring
tray
3.4 Align holes on tray flange for attaching Fastening Pegs
3.5 To link neighbouring trays - insert short Fastening Peg and twist
to lock
3.6 To prevent Base Connector and Tray Outlet points from
disconnecting - insert long Fastening Peg and twist to lock
3.7 Repeat for all trays in horizontal row
4. NEXT AND SUBSEQUENT HORIZONTAL ROWS
4.1 Install trays in horizontal row from left to right of grid
4.2 Connect drainage pipes to both ends of Base Connector
Insert long Peg Twist to lock
Down slope

flange of tray in front row
4.4 Overlap left flange of tray with right flange of neighbouring
tray
4.5 Repeat 3.4 to 3.7
4.6 Repeat 4.1 to 4.5 for all subsequent rows on the grid
Overlap right flange of neighbouring tray
Overlap top flange of bottom tray

5. Inspection & Maintenance
5.1 Follow a routine inspection and maintenance regime
5.2 Weed away invasive unwanted growth
5.3 Prune as necessary
5.4 Apply fertilizer occasionally, if necessary
