s
A. Affective DisordersA mental disorder characterized by dramatic changes or extremes of mood.
3 types of Affective Disorder
Clinical Depression-Involves long-lasting feelings of
hopelessness, sadness, or helplessness.
Most people feel sad or low at some point in their lives. But clinical depression is
marked by a depressed mood most of the day, particularly in the morning, and a loss
of interest in normal activities and relationships
Billy JoelThe “piano man” has had a number of great highs over his amazing musical career, but at the same time he has consistently battled the lows that come with clinical depression. Joel has fought the effects of depression throughout his career, even trying to poison himself in a suicide attempt in 1970, according to a Billy Joel biography on the Yahoo! Music Web site. Joel lives with depression to this day.

Bipolar or Manic-depressive Disorder
A person’s moods vary from extreme happiness to
depression
Demi LovatoUnbeknownst to her loyal fans, the actress-singer-songwriter, who became a teen idol after starring in the Camp Rock movies on the Disney Channel, had problems related to anorexia, bulimia and cutting (self-injury). In November 2010, Lovato ended her tour with the Jonas Brothers early to enter a three-month treatment program for physical and emotional issues, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She admits to having felt plagued by depression since childhood, and says she suffered verbal bullying in middle school.
Seasonal affective disorder
A type of depression caused by reduced exposure to sunlight.
Among the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder are
depression, anxiety and decreased activity.
Rick Strom"Musician Rick Strom has credited his most creative periods to SAD" I understand that this is just his opinion of which he is entitled to. However the statement does suggest the accompaniment of mania to this form of depression. Is it possible that during the summer months SAD suffers experience episodes of mania? Can anyone “shed some light” on this one for me? Likewise living in Australia in the driest state SA in the driest continent in the world can also drive a person "round the bend" just as much as British Winter time does to someone from the Northern Hemispere.
B. Anxiety DisorderA disorder in which real or imagined
fears prevent a person from enjoying life.
Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness. Untreated
anxiety disorders can push people into avoiding situations that trigger or
worsen their symptoms. People with anxiety disorders are likely to suffer from depression, and they also may abuse alcohol and other drugs in an
effort to gain relief from their symptoms.
Types of Anxiety Disorder
General Anxiety disorder
A recurring state of anxiety, fear, restlessness and
tenseness; worries tend to be general, often related to
every day life.
Leann Rimes
As recently as the middle of 2012, Leann Rhymes decided to enter a treatment facility for severe anxiety and stress. While the nature of her anxiety is not listed in any reports, her representative stated that Ms. Rimes simply needs to re-learn coping tools for the significant anxiety that comes with being a celebrity.
Socio-phobia or Social Anxiety disorder (SAD)
Intense fear of everyday social interactions; feel
being watched and judged by others; intense fear
about an upcoming social situation worrying about it
weeks in advance.
Donny OsmondAt the tender age of 6, Donny Osmond recalls the beginnings of what would later develop into a full-blown case of SAD. While performing in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," Osmond's stage fright became overwhelming. No longer able to cope, he sought help and received both medication and therapy as part of a treatment program. Osmond has spoken openly about his experiences in his autobiography and in interviews.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
An anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent and
persistent thoughts and feelings and repetitive,
ritualized behaviors. e.g. Feel the need to perform certain tasks like locking the door
in a certain sequence.
David BeckhamWhile he's managed to live a fairly decent quality of life despite his disorder, David Beckham has all of the qualities of a real celebrity living with OCD. Beckham's obsession is order, specifically with pairs. He needs to have even numbers or he becomes very uncomfortable, and has been known to throw out or add to things in order to make sure they're an even number.
Cameron DiazOne of the most public stars in Hollywood when it comes to obsessive-compulsive disorder, Cameron Diaz’s condition manifests itself as an overwhelming fear of germs, especially on doorknobs. In her home, the polish is worn off of every knob because she insists on opening them with her elbows. She also cleans her house daily and washes her hands multiple times every day.
Justin Timberlake
Timberlake is self-diagnosed as having a mixture of OCD and attention-deficit disorder, which seems like a very difficult thing to deal with on a daily basis. Some of the behaviors that he has admitted publicly include making sure things are lined up at perfect right angles and ensuring that certain food items are always present in his fridge.
Post-traumatic stress disorder
The after effects of the past event keep the person from
living in a normal way.
Johnny DeppIt has to do with a childhood injury. His partner was killed or died suddenly and Johnny Depp went into a mental break down and couldn't handle it which then caused him to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Panic DisorderPanic disorder often causes severe, debilitating anxiety
attacks that can frighten not only the person suffering from panic attacks, but also those
around them.
AdeleThe most famous singer in the world in 2011 and 2012 appears to have suffered from not only panic attacks, but also social phobia and severe stage fright. Performing in front of crowds of thousands can give anyone stage fright, but there is a strong likelihood that her anxiety attacks were an issue long before she ever stepped on stage.
C. Dissociative DisorderA person has a memory
loss, confused identity, or more than one identity
2 Types of Dissociative Disorder
AmnesiaInability to recall past experiences
Pink FloydDue to unknown reasons the entire band of Pink Floyd fell victim to retrograde amnesia following the release of their famed album "The Wall" in 1979. Beginning in 1980, and continuing to the present day, for some reason, the band cannot seem to remember how to write good music. The severity of their amnesia wasn't fully apparent until "The Division Bell" was released in 1994, which chronicled the full unraveling of their ability to write great material.
Dissociative Identity DisorderPeople with DID are influenced by two or more distinct personalities, or identities, which prevent them from acting like themselves.
Herschel WalkerIn recent years, Herschel Walker, a Heisman award-winning running back and former NFL player, has gone public about his troubles with dissociative identity disorder, a complex mental health disorder. Walker has received treatment for the disorder and wrote a book about his experiences. "I feel the greatest achievement of my life will be to tell the world my truth," he said in an interview with ESPN.
