7-6-0 record in games played on neutral sites. Friday will also mark the first neutral site game between the two since Mar. 5, 1921 when they played in Philadelphia. In all, the first 13 games between Dartmouth and Princeton were played in neutral sites between New York City (7), Boston (4) and Philadelphia (2).

▶ GAME 2For the third straight season, Dartmouth and Brown are guaranteed to play at least three times during the year as the two will meet during the first weekend of the season yet again. The Big Green have won the last two contests in this tournament, 2-1, in Hanover two years ago and 4-0 last October in Providence. The Bears will play both its games this weekend at 4 p.m. as they open with Yale on Friday before taking on Dartmouth in the second tilt. Brown is coming off a year in which it advanced all the way to the ECAC Hockey Championship Game, knocking off second-seeded RPI and top-seed and eventual national runner-up Quinnipiac before falling to Union. That run, coupled with a strong second half, have earned the Bears early-season recognition as they have garnered votes in the national rankings this fall.

▶ ALL-TIME AGAINST BROWNThe Big Green and Bears have met 147 previous times with Dartmouth winning 76 of those

contests. Lately, the rivalry has been a bit one-sided as the team from the Upper Valley is 11-0-1 dating back to the 2008-09 season. In that span, a 5-5 tie on Feb. 6, 2010 in Providence is the lone blemish in what would otherwise be a perfect string of five straight season sweeps for the Big Green. Saturday will mark just the second neutral site game ever between the two programs, having previously played the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Albany in 2003 with the Green and White winning, 4-2. The current stretch of 12 games without a loss ties the series record that was set between 1928 and 1948. Head Coach Bob Gaudet has been on both sides of the longest streaks for Dartmouth against Brown, having put together the current string off 12 without a loss, while also guiding Brown to a 6-0-3 mark against the Green from 1989 to 1994, the best by a Bears team against Dartmouth.

▶ LEADING THE WAYJunior Tyler Sikura was named team captain following last season by a vote conducted by the team. Sikura is the second junior in the last three seasons to don the ‘C’ on his sweater after Mike Keenan was tabbed for the 2011-12 campaign. Sikura’s selection has made him the 132nd captain in the team’s 108-year history.

After missing the final 17 games of last season, Brandon McNally is back and healthy as a junior in 2013-14. McNally had 11 points on six goals and five assists in 16 games before suffering a shoulder injury at Brown on Jan. 18 that sidelined the Saugus, Mass., native for the remainder of the year. Dartmouth was 10-5-1 before the injury and 5-9-3 after.

▶ EUROPEAN TEAM BUILDINGThe team traveled to Italy and Switzerland this August and September, playing three games against professional teams. After starting the trip 0-2, the Green bounced back with a 4-1 win over Ritten Renon in the finale, beating former NHL goalie Chris Mason in the process.

▶ FINAL TUNEUPIn the lone stateside exhibition game of the preseason, Dartmouth knocked off the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, 7-2, on Oct. 18 at Thompson Arena. Charlie Mosey scored twice and finished tied with sophomore Brad Schierhorn (3A) for the team lead with three points. Sikura, Ryan Bullock, Brett Patterson and freshmen Grant Opperman and Kyle Nickerson each added a goal as well against the Ridgebacks.

▶ MOVING BACK UPThe Big Green (4-3-3) finished the season tied for second in the Ivy League standings with Brown (5-4-1) as each had 11 points. Dartmouth had finished fourth the previous season in Ivy play, while the Bears were sixth.

▶ PRESEASON POLLSThe ECAC Hockey Head Coaches tabbed the Big Green seventh in its preseason rankings with one of the conference’s 12 bench bosses giving his first-place nod to Dartmouth. The Media Poll had the team slightly higher, picking them tied for fifth with Cornell. USCHO.com’s preseason ECAC Hockey preview was the most positive with its outlook for the Big Green, tabbing the team third in its projected standings.

▶ HOME COOKIN’In 2012-13, Dartmouth was 12-5-1 in games played at Thompson Arena. Those 12 wins were the most of any Ivy League program and ranked third in ECAC Hockey behind Quinnipiac (15 in 22 games) and Rensselaer (13 in 19 games). The 3.44 goals per game (62 total) in those contests were the second most by any ECAC program, trailing only Colgate’s 3.88 (66).

▶ ROADHOUSE BLUESIn stark contrast to the successes of Thompson, Dartmouth was just 3-9-3 on the road in 2012-13, the second-fewest victories in the league (Colgate, 2-12-4). However, it was close games that the Big Green fell prey to in those road outings, allowing just 2.93 goals against in 15 games, the fifth-best mark in ECAC Hockey.

▶ THREE GOALIES, BUT JUST ONE NETGaudet and his staff will have their hands full every night when picking from three talented goaltenders on the roster. Senior Cab Morris is the top returner from a season ago (8-7-3/2.14/.915) and earned the win against UOIT

The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction.

Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ‘95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07.

During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League champions twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist for Division I Coach of the Year. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league, just one-and-a-half games behind first-place Clarkson. The Bears also spent much of the year in and out of the top 10 in the national polls.

Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet led the team to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth ice hockey. In 76 career games, he made a school-record 2,129 saves, while allowing only 299 goals for a 4.00 career goals-against average and an .877 save percentage. He had his most successful campaign as a sophomore when he recorded two of his four-career shutouts to go along with a 3.03 goals-against average. He was First Team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80, and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best Ivy League goalie.

Following graduation, Gaudet signed a free-agent contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. He played for minor-league affiliates of Winnipeg in the CHL and IHL for one year before a knee injury cut short his promising career.

Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Like her father, Kelly was a goaltender as well as co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey teamwhile at Hanover High School. Kelly will begin at Dartmouth in 2013-14.

Entering his 17th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program in 2013-14, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench.

In the last several seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12.

In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 16 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL.

Entering the 2013-14 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 234 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .508 winning percentage (234-226-59) is the third-best mark at Dartmouth as well.

After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign.

In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J.

At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 234-226-59 (entering 2013-14).

last Friday night. Sophomore Charles Grant (7-7-2/2.77/.911) saw considerable time as a rookie in 2012-13, while James Kruger (0-0-0/1.81/.923) appeared in just one game of relief. Kruger was the lone Big Green goalie to earn a win overseas, stopping 33-of-34 in the victory against Ritten Renon in the European trip finale, while also posting seven saves and not allowing a goal in the exhibition tilt.

▶ DOWN A MAN? NO PROBLEMAfter finishing 52nd in the country in penalty kill success rate in 2011-12, Dartmouth turned it around last season, finishing fifth in the nation with an 88.6% playing down a man. The Big Green killed off 32 straight power plays by their opponents from Nov. 2 against Yale to Dec. 31 vs. UMass, a span of 10 games.

▶ TO BE THE BEST, YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE BESTWhen the national championship game match-up was set in Pittsburgh last April between Yale and Quinnipiac, it meant Dartmouth would play the defending champion once again in 2013-14. The Big Green had played 2012 National Champ BC in November and an all-ECAC Hockey Final in 2013 would guarantee the Green another shot at the previous season’s best program.

▶ WELCOME TO THE FOLDFive new names adorn the Dartmouth roster this winter. Nickerson, Opperman, Troy Crema, Brandon Kirk and Josh Hartley will all be making their debut this season as part of the Class of 2017.

▶ MORE MATURELast season, Dartmouth was the youngest team in ECAC Hockey with 18 underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores). This year, the balance of the roster has shifted slightly with 11 upperclassmen (7 juniors and 4 seniors) and 15 underclassmen (10 sophomores and five freshmen).

▶ BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG BARNThis weekend at the Prudential Center (New Jersey Devils) will mark the first time a Dartmouth team has played in an NHL arena since Mar. 15, 1980. The Big Green played Cornell in the old Boston Garden for the ECAC Championship, eventually falling, 5-1. The team would play in the Frozen Four two weeks later, but the 1980 national semifinals and finals were played at the Providence Civic Center and not an NHL Facility. Current head coach Bob Gaudet was a junior on that team that last dressed for a game in a pro building.

2012-13 GOALS DARTMOUTH DIGITSDartmouth played two teams who held the No. 1 ranking in the country at game time in 2012-13: BC (Nov. 24) and Quinnipaic (Mar. 2)

1Four returning players switched jersey numbers for this season: Brandon McNally (15), Brett Patterson (13), Ryan Bullock (22), Nick Bligh (23)

4The Big Green will have five new players on the roster in 2013-14: Troy Crema, Josh Hartley, Brandon Kirk, Kyle Nickerson and Grant Opperman

519 players on this years’s roster are listed at or above six-feet tall.6

Six players who had 10 or more points last season are back in a Dartmouth sweater this winter.10Dartmouth will have 11 upperclassmen this year between four seniors and seven juniors.11Head coach Bob Gaudet ’81 is in his 17th season coaching at his alma mater.17

Tyler Sikura led the team in scoring as a sophomore with 32 points on 12 goals and 20 assists.

32

The Big Green will play 29 regular season games this year, including 13 at home, 13 on the road and three at neutral sites.

29

The Big Green were successful killing off

88.6% of the opposition’s power-play chances last season, ranking 5th in the nation.

88.6

The 2013-14 campaign marks the 108th in the history of Dartmouth hockey.

108

Calgary’s area code (587)... The home to three former

Dartmouth players now on the NHL’s Calgary Flames: Lee Stempniak ’05, David Jones ’08 and TJ Galiardi ’10.

587

With a win over No. 2 UNH on Dec. 30, 2012, the Big Green climbed to No. 8 in the national polls, the best ranking in program history.

8
