PET OF THE WEEK This gentle love bug is all you could ask for andmore! Sadi was transferred from MADACC(Milwaukee Animal Control) due to lack ofspace. She has had us all smitten from themoment she walked through our doors. Shedoes have several mammary masses, but WCHS had several removedand tested. Thankfully they are benign, so she has now been clearedfor adoption!! With her stellar, beautiful big smile, and very tolerantpersonality we are all so happy that Sadi can finally find a home to callher own. She would do well in virtually any Beagle loving household.Sadi is amazing with children of all ages, dogs, and cats. Sadi was in2 different foster homes while she was awaiting her surgery, and bothfoster homes said she did great with housebreaking and was a dreamdog! Don't make this dreamy girl wait too long! Hurry in!

The Menomonee Falls Village Boardrejected a rezoning request June 15 forland in the northwest portion of the village.

     J. Bradley Bence requested the proper-ty be rezoned from the A-1 AgriculturalDistrict to the CDD Conservation

Development District.A protest petition was filed by adjacentresidents against the rezoning request. Inresponse, the item was tabled at the June 4meeting. The petition has since been veri-fied by village staff. As a result, the rezon-ing request had to be approved by five ofsix members of the Village Board.

At the start of discussion, VillagePresident Joe Helm said that to “get up to

speed” on the ordinance he attended aworkshop on conservation development dis-tricts that was presented by WaukeshaCounty and the UW Extension. Helm saidhe couldn’t get over a “log row” photo thatwas presented by a resident at a previousmeeting and then visited the property on

June 14.Helm the quoted sections of the ordi-

nance which stated the “intent” of the ordi-nance is to preserve natural areas andwoodlands, reduce the intensity of thedevelopment, minimize the views of newdevelopment from existing streets, and pre-serve landscape elements and natural fea-tures such as woodlands. He also noted theapplicant has to create an existing resourcesite analysis map showing the location ofevery tree larger than 12 inches in caliper.

Helm, reading from the ordinance, said itrequires that the development should bedesigned around those features.

Helm stated that the bullet points in theordinance “has been neutered by his activi-ty on the property. This land doesn’t qualifyfor this anymore.”

Trustee Steve Raymonds said he was“torn” on the proposal because he liked the

idea of a conservation development district.“I don’t like the fact that any neighborcan tell some other neighbor that they can’tdo something to their land, and we havethat here,” Raymonds said.

He also noted that residents opposingthe request resided in subdivisions that weredeveloped near the site.

Raymonds said he visited the area andwas surprised at “how open the area is with

all the trees that were cut down.”Trustee Bonnie Lemmer also

was torn on the issue, and that owner should be allowed to develand. Lemmer said she could alsstand the opinion of nearby residenproperty should be allowed to rem

The Menomonee Falls Village Boardsupported an ordinance June 15 thatwould allow for outdoor dining on public

sidewalks in the Village Centre.Under the ordinance, outdoor cafes

would be allowed on public sidewalks

within the Village Centre from RooseveltDrive south to Main Street and continuingon the east side of Appleton Avenue to apoint 270 feet south of Jacobson Driveand on to Main Street from the a point160 feet of Water Street west to HoytDrive. The permit would be in place fromMarch 1 to Nov. 1 and outdoor diningwould be allowed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.All applicants would be required to amendtheir liquor license boundaries to includethe outdoor cafe area and molded plasticfurniture is barred.

During board discussion, Trustee SteveRaymonds said he liked language in a sim-ilar ordinance from Cudahy that barredfold-able metal and plastic lawn chairs andcard tables from the cafe areas.

“I really don’t want to see card tables,”Raymonds said.

Trustee Chris Smolik cited the portion ofthe ordinance which barred molded plasticfurniture from the cafe areas.

Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald saidthe village based its ordinance from a simi-lar ordinance in Oconomowoc. Fitzgeraldsaid a card table and lounge chair would-n’t meet the “weather and wear” provisionof the village ordinance.

The Menomonee Falls girls soccerteam topped Homestead 2-1 in overtime ina sectional final at Brookfield Central June13. In the process, the team continued apostseason run that has taken the Indiansfrom fifth place in the Greater MetroConference to state tournament qualifier.

"In the regular season, we were a littleoff but we came into the tournament say-ing we were going to change it and we'regoing to come back. We called it our'path of revenge,'" forward Kylie Sprechersaid. "We just wanted to keep going asfar as we can."

The postseason run included wins overHomestead and Hamilton, both of whomdefeated Menomonee Falls during the reg-ular season.

"It's just amazing, it's so surreal,"added Maggie Greifenkamp. "We could-n't ask for anything more."

The day was all the more special forGreifenkamp and the six other seniors onthe team, who graduated from

Menomonee Falls during a ceremonywhich started at 4 p.m. and was finishingup at just before 6 p.m. The seniors on theteam left the ceremony toward the end toget to the game, which was pushed backtwo hours from its original 5 p.m. start.

Menomonee Falls got on the boardfirst as Sprecher converted an assist fromMaggie Greifenkamp inside theHighlanders penalty box to give

Menomonee Falls a 1-0 lead at the 42ndminute. With that goal, Sprecher set therecord for most goals in a season whichhad been set the year before by RachelClayton.

During the second half, MenomoneeFalls continued to press, as Sprecher madeseveral runs, with Menomonee Falls get-ting two shots on goal near the 79thminute.

While Menomonee Falls attempted tokeep the ball out of their side of the field inthe closing minutes of the game,Homestead pressed and Jordan Ellerbrockconverted an assist from Coco Wiencekwith less than two minutes remaining.

But Menomonee Falls scored less thana minute into the first overtime, asSprecher sprinted toward the Homesteadgoal. The ensuing shot deflected off anoth-er Menomonee Falls player before it wasdeflected into the net by a Homesteaddefender.

Menomonee Falls then held the leadfor the next 19 minutes to earn its first tripto the state tournament.

    For Menomonee Falls Coach Scott

Stein, it is the second improbable postsea-son run in less than a year, as Steincoached the boys team to a runner-up fin-ish in the state tournament in the fall. Thisyear's girls team had only three playersplaying in the same position as last year.

"I think this year the connection andbond between the guys and girls pro-grams — they believe," Stein said. "They'reall great friends and juniors and seniors,

they want it for each other."Stein said he took the seniors on the

girls team aside and mentioned thatexpectations for the boys team weren'thigh either heading into their season.

"Why can't we do it, and they did,"

    Stein said.Menomonee Falls is scheduled
