MEMORIAL DAY



Slide 1. Memorial Day is a time when we remember those who have goneon before us. Slide 2. Many people go to grave sites to visit those whohave passed away. Slide 3. Many people will place flowers on the graves of those who have passed away. It makes them feel sad as well as comforted

to take them these flowers and place on the graves or tombstones. Slide 4.For some people, this is a memorably time to share special memories of great things their loved ones have accomplished in the past. Some peoplehave a grandpa who has passed on, others an aunt or uncle. Slide 5. Somemay even have a brave solder who served in the military who is deceaseddue to war times. Slide 6. These men were very braved to give their livesfor our countries in order to serve and protect our country. Slide 7. Ourmemory verse talked about how to be brave like many of them were. Let’sall say this verse together.

SCRIPTURE MEMORY/LESSON

"I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me" Philippians 4:13.

Slide 8. “I” refers to all of us. God includes everyone when He gives us apromise. We are all able to do whatever God had called us to do. He willmake us capable and able to do it. He not only will help us with some

things, but with everything that we do. Many times we attempt do tothings on our own, but find that it is difficult. We may even fail trying to doa task in our own strength. It is so much easier to do it if we ask for Hishelp. When we do something in our own power, we will find that ourstrength is not enough. You see, we are weak. When we ask for God’s help, we have double power for our strength is increased, because God ISpowerful.

Slide 9. When someone is asked to get up in front of a lot of people to

read something, play and instrument, sing, or be a part in some skit theymay really get nervous. That is normal and ok. However, if we say “No’ because we are scared, then we lose the opportunity to grow and developin that area. We must be courageous. It is not the absence of fear.

Slide 10. What would have happened if our men who joined the militarywould have quit after the first assignment they were given? Would you feel



safe with them protecting you? Slide 11. What if your aunt who had cancersaid she would not take any chemotherapy because she was afraid it wouldnot work? What would probably happen then? Sometimes people makechemotherapy for cancer treatment and then they get sicker and die

anyhow. Does this mean it was wrong to at least try? We never know howGod wants to use us to help others so we must be brave and be willing todo our part even if it is scary.

Slide 12. Sarah was a young girl who was very brave. One day when shewas all alone at home, some strangers came to her door. They told herthat her mother was in a car accident and that they needed to take her tothe hospital. Sarah believed them and went with them. When she got intotheir car, she found out it was a trick. Sarah was very frightened and

thought quickly. She wrote a note and left it at the gas station when themen stopped to get some gas. Sarah threw the notes outside the window. After the men finished getting gas, they drove off with Sarah. Someoneelse who stopped to get gas found the note and called the police. This iswhat it said:

My name is Sarah Jones

Please help me

It was not too long before they found the car with the bad men in it alongwith Sarah. Sarah was rescued and the men were taken to jail and latersent to prison.

What would have happened if Sarah had not been brave? She would notbe here today. We should always be brave, however we should never,

never go off with someone that we do not know for whatever reason theytell us. It is not a safe thing to do. God will watch over you and give youstrength to do what you need to do.

Slide 13. If God asks you to sing a song – do it. If He asks you to do a partin a play – do it. If God ask you to speak in front of your class – do it. It is



only those who are brave that learn new things and grow and develop.God will always be with you as you seek His help. If God ask you to tellsomeone you are sorry – do it!

Let us be thankful for all those who have gone on before us and werebrave. Let us be thankful for Memorial Day and honor those who havedied. We can place flowers on their graves, or we can send a “thinking of you” card to those we know who have lost someone.

ACTIVITY

We are going to make a card for someone today who has lost someone. You may know of someone that you can give this card to. (You can alsogive the cards to someone in your church who has recently lost someone).

Provide the kids flowers (Cut-out) for the cards. Give them items to paste,glue, and stickers for creating their cards. This is a verse the kids can writeinside the card or think of something else they would rather say.

We are sorry for your loss, and God will give you strength,

To face each day ahead, for you are not alone,

His peace and comfort are with you,

May He bless you and be near you on this Memorial Day!

Slide 14. Questions for Discussion

1. What is the benefit of being courageous?2. How will God help us be courageous?3. Can you share a time when you felt afraid, but did the right thing

anyhow?

SCRIPTURE MEMORY : "I Can Do All Things Through Christ WhoStrengthens Me" Philippians 4:13. Each time you say the verse as a group,have someone stand and share something they fear. When they do this,have them come up take a black square and put in the waste basket



provided. Tell them we are giving these fears away, and trusting God tomake us courageous. Close in a prayer for God to help everyone to trustand be not afraid.
