MEMORANDUM
STREET LIGHT CUSTOMER CHARGE On March 20, 2018, the Waseca City Council adopted Resolution No. 18-18 establishing a street light customer charge. This new street light customer charge will become effective beginning with the utility bills due June 15, 2018.
Why establish a new street light customer charge? The establishment of a street light customer charge provides dedicated revenue for street lighting. This Council action combines general fund and electric utility expenses for improved transparency. Dedicated revenue will be used to fund ongoing maintenance & repair of the existing street lights, power costs, rental fees for street lights within the City owned by Xcel Energy, and the ongoing conversion program from high pressure sodium to LED street lights. How will the street light customer charge be billed? The street light customer charge will be billed to residential and non-residential utility accounts. Customers will be billed a flat monthly street light customer charge of $3.60. You will see this charge reflected in the detail section of your bill listed under the service description “street light customer charge”. This charge is subject to state sales tax. Where can I get more information? For additional information on the street light customer charge, please contact Carl Sonnenberg, Utilities Director, [email protected].
