Fallen Heroes Memorial Ceremony – Remember

On September 11th

, the City hosted the Palm Coast Fallen Heroes Memorial Service. A crowd of hundreds

gathered at Heroes Park to join in remembering and honoring those who lost their lives, including firefighters,

police officers, paramedics and EMTs, on Sept. 11, 2001. Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts spoke, and all five

members of City Council laid wreaths at the 9/11 Memorial. Honored guests laid wreaths at the Fire Rescue,

Law Enforcement, and Military memorials, and City employee Yvonne Robinson, a survivor of the attack on

the World Trade Center, sang America the Beautiful. This year’s ceremony featured the unveiling of Flagler

County Sheriff’s Sgt. Frank Celico’s name to the Fallen Hero Memorial. Family and friends of Sgt. Celico,

who died in 2011 at age 33, participated in the unveiling.

Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup

The 7th

Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup was a huge success, with 455 volunteers collecting 1,093

pounds of garbage and 1,4921 pounds of recyclable material. After volunteers cleaned our precious waterways,

paths and parks, they were welcomed back to the Community Center for refreshments, hotdogs, prizes and fun.

A huge thank you for the continued support of Florida Inland Navigation District and other proud sponsors

including Waste Pro, University of Florida IFAS Extension, SeaGrant Florida , Tropical Kayaks, Ripple Effect,

and Marineland Dolphin Encounter.

City Employees are Safe Workers

The City earned another reduction in our Worker’s Compensation Experience Modification this year, providing

an annual savings to the City in worker’s comp premiums. To recognize our employees for a safe working

record again this year, this week the Safety Team recognized City employees by hosting a pizza party luncheon.

This accomplishment brings the City’s Experience Mod below 1.0 for the first time in the last five years. Our

employees are to be congratulated for this huge improvement.

Floodplain Management Plan Annual Progress Report Staff completed the Floodplain Management Plan Annual Progress Report and transmitted the document to the

designated Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinator as part of the annual recertification process. The

purpose of this document is to provide an annual account of activities associated with the City’s Floodplain

Management Program. This document facilitates information that can benefit public officials, businesses and

the Citizens of Palm Coast. A copy of the document is readily available on the City’s website at the following

Saimon the Code Cat

Saimon the Code Cat was rescued by Code Enforcement three (3) years ago and made his home at

City Offices. He has recently been adopted by a Finance staff member Dawna, and will live out his

retirement years at her home. City staff wishes Saimon well as he moves into his new home and

into his retirement years. So long Saimon.

Green Team:

The 7th Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup was a huge success. Volunteers that attended the previous Saturday’s

Orientation hit the ground running on Saturday morning. Other Volunteers gathered their supplies beginning at 8am at the

Palm Coast Community Center. After cleaning our precious waterways, paths and parks, the volunteers were welcomed back

to the Community Center for refreshments, hotdogs, prizes and fun.

455 volunteers worked together to collect 1,093 pounds of garbage and 1,491 pounds of recyclable material. This was the first

time that the recyclables outweighed the regular garbage!

Our Most Unique F.I.N.D. this year was a VHS tape. The kids will have to Google that to know what it is! Other odd items

collected included an Elmo flip flop, a decorative cat clock, a circuit board, a sling shot, a lawn chair and an Intracoastal

Waterway event water bottle from 2008.

A huge thank you for the continued support of Florida Inland Navigation District and other proud sponsors including Waste

The time in now to register to participate in the Flagler Humane Society’s “Fast

via the Amazon.com link on our website and ship them directly to the shelter.

September Specials: “September Sunday Specials” will be going on every

Public Announcements: The Flagler Humane Society has a variety of

subsidized or FREE spay and neuter programs for members of the community

that need to have their pets or community pets sterilized. Please call FHS at

The Flagler Beach TNR grant has come to an end and the funds are no longer

available to provide free spay/neuter to community cats from that area. Don’t

worry – FHS still offers the Community Cat Program for $25. This includes the

spay/neuter, a rabies vaccination, and an ear notch. Call to see how the

program works!

Operations Division staff working with regional fiber and bandwidth providers in hopes of bringing them into the City’s FiberNET, which would open doors to access regional and national solutions and providers.

Applications Division made some changes to the City website to enhance performance on pages that need to search internal properties (such as user accounts).

Applications Division automated the updating of staff photos for use with Microsoft Office products. Previously every new user or photo change was a manual update.

Applications created and released the website and online registration for the upcoming BAC Expo at http://www.bacexpo.com.

Operations Division received 75 Track IT’s this past week.

Operations Division staff completed repair of multiple systems at FZ Pool that were damaged in recent lightning storm.

Operations Division staff is nearly complete with the Exchange 2013 migration.

Operations Division staff is in the middle of converting out mobile device management system to Mobile Iron. This helps control City network access by mobile devices (i.e. – iPads).

Operations Division staff worked with water treatment plant vendor as they upgrade systems at all of the water plants.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

GIS Division provided Community Development with an ArcGIS Online map to collect GPS points for the new Bike Maintenance Stations. This map will be accessed via an iPad app and will run disconnected in the field.

UTILITY

GIS Division provided Utility staff with a complete list of all valves 16 inches or greater to assist them in their yearly maintenance program.

This lecture will discuss the differences between a Will and a Living Trust. The presenter’s will

focus on the details of the court process of Probate, when assets pass through a Will upon death

and how to avoid the Probate process for your family with a Living Trust. Our speakers will also

discuss the loss of control of assets in the event of a legal incapacitation and how to maintain

control of assets if incapacity should occur. Serving Health Insurance Needs of Seniors. Carol

Sarni will explain how Medicare and other health insurance programs for elders work. The

Discover Trips – Friday, Oct. 10, “Sounds of Simon & Garfunkel” presented by the

Jacksonville Symphony

With the line “hello darkness, my old friend” Simon & Garfunkel touched a generation and

propelled the duo to superstardom. Relive Simon & Garfunkel’s “Kodachrome” moments with

Michael Krajewski, guest artists A.J. Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle, and the Jacksonville

Symphony Orchestra. This concert is part of the Mayo Clinic Coffee Series. Complimentary

A Day at the Movies - Tuesday, September 9 featuring “Emperor”. Movie held at the Palm

Wood Carvers – Tuesdays from 1-4p at the Palm Coast Community Center. The art of

woodcarving has a history that spans centuries. At its core, woodcarving transforms a piece of

wood into a masterfully crafted work of art. Join this group of gifted carvers as they share their

skill and know how in this informal teaching atmosphere. The woodcarving group is a mixed

group of men and women at all levels and abilities. Visitors are welcome.

Game Day Social – Thursdays from 1-4p at the Palm Coast Community Center. As the name

suggests, Game Day Social is comprised of a lively, spirited group of individuals who enjoy the

camaraderie and competition of dominos, a variety of card games or board games. Participants

are encouraged to bring their favorite game or play one provided by the Parks and Recreation

Department. Light refreshments are served.

Re: Week in Review

The average water demand for the week was 6.835 million gallons per day; average wastewater flow

was 5.954 million gallons per day.

Water Distribution crews repaired a broken 8” gate valve, 71 homes were affected for approximately 8

hours on Seascape Drive, Central Avenue and Moody Drive.

Installed 5 new domestic meters and installed 2 PEP tanks and replaced 3 existing tank.

This week 357 utility customers were shut off for non-payment.

Flagler Palm Coast (FPC) High School\Bulldog Drive Project – Completed the weir #1 pond project.

This included demolition of existing fabric form embankment, final grade and sodded.

ZLD Water Treatment Plant #2 – The electrician continues to work on site. The pouring of the new

driveway continues. Installation of the soda ash slurry lines between the soda ash silo and the clarifiers

has started.

Wastewater crews installed new media in the Bio-Rem odor control unit at Pump Station 13-1 by the

library.

Resurfacing continues; Belle Terre southbound paved from East Hampton to SR-100.

Graded 4,245 feet of swales and cleaned 79 culvert pipes. Also removed and replaced 4 driveway

aprons and culvert pipes on Castle Drive, and repaired 1 outfall. Replaced 1 pipe crossing (120LF)

located at Underwood Trail.

Mowing in “E”, “S”, “B”, “P”, and “W” sections. Mowing Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast Parkway,

Seminole Woods Drive, Easthampton Drive and Old Kings Road.

Performed site distance trimming in the “Z” section.

Painted 8 soccer fields at Indian Trails Sports Complex and Indian Trails Middle School for the

North/Central Florida which is the Region B league for this weekend (70+ teams).

Inmates mowed and weeded 41,050 linear feet of ditch in the “P” and “E” sections and SR-100.

Staffed the Senior Games Special Event.

Celebrate Palm Coast’s rich cultural diversity at International Festival, Oct. 4 Palm Coast – Celebrate Palm Coast’s diverse cultural heritage – through food, wine, entertainment and art – at the third annual Palm Coast International Festival, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave. Admission is free! Attendees will enjoy a variety of ethnic cuisines, international wines and imported beers, music, cultural displays, dancers and other performances throughout the day. The event has been designed as an opportunity for people to meet their neighbors and learn more about their cultural heritage, traditions and languages. The cultural heritage organizations participating are:

The centerpiece of International Festival will be a Parade of Countries through Central Park. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, culminating in an evening concert by Havana Soul, a Miami band specializing in different genres of Latin music that will keep the crowd dancing! In addition to music and dance from the participating cultural organizations and area high schools, the festival will feature Australian performers Didgeridoo Down Under and musical artist Seona McDowell, the Viva Panama dance troupe, Ancient City Pipes & Drums bagpipers, and Supremacy Dance. Children will have a chance to try out Sports of the World, and DJ Vern will host the day’s entertainment. While enjoying the free entertainment and learning more about the cultural uniqueness of Palm Coast, festival-goers will be able to try a variety of international foods, wine and beer – from the participating cultural heritage organizations and food and beverage vendors. Commemorative event wine glasses will be available for purchase. An addition to the International Festival this year is an art tent hosted by the Palm Coast Arts Foundation and Flagler County Art League, featuring “Chairs as Art,” custom-decorated chairs by local artists. The two arts organizations will also join together for a Chair-ity Event from 6-9

p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Central Park.
