UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY WASHINGTON, D.C. 20460 FEB l 2 Z014 OFFICE OF SOLID WASTE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: The Technical Review Workgroup for Metals and Asbestos (TRW) Lead and Bioavailability Committees Annual Calendar Year 20 I 3 FROM: Annual Reports James E. Woolford, Director It{ 1--- 0ffice of Superfund and Technology Innovation (OSRTI) TO: Superfund National Policy Managers, Regions 1-10 Office of Research and Development Center and Laboratory Directors The purpose of this memorandum is to transmit The Technical Review Workgroup (TRW) for Metals and Asbestos, Subcommittees for Lead and Bioavailability 2013 Annual Reports. The Subcommittee on Asbestos will submit their 20 I 3 Annual Report separately. The TRW is convened by the Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation (OSRTI) with the goal to support and promote consistent application of the best science in the field of risk assessment for metals and asbestos at contaminated sites nationwide. The TRW was initially formed as the Technical Review Workgroup for Lead in 1995. Building on the success the group had in advancing lead risk assessment, the TRW was expanded to address emerging needs in metals and asbestos risk assessment. The TRW reviews metals and asbestos risk assessment methodologies used at hazardous waste sites, to help promote the application of scientifically sound and consistent approaches to risk assessment. To achieve these goals, the TRW is composed of three committees: the Lead Committee, the Asbestos Committee, and the Bioavailability Committee. These Committees are primarily composed of members from OSRTI, the Regions, Office of Research and Development labs and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The Asbestos Committee also includes members from the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response/Office of Emergency Management and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Attached are the "TRW Bioavailability Committee Annual Report" and the "TRW Lead Committee Annual Report". These Annual Reports presents the accomplishments and activities ofthese two TRW Committee, as well as a li st of current TRW members. OSRTI is also seekjng nominations fo r workgroup members on the TRW Bioavailability Committee and the TRW Asbestos Committee.
