THE BIG PICTURE
Identify your key components and greatest strengths.
Focus on these first.
NOW, FIND YOUR FOCUS…
• Is the staff set up to support the members? If not, who is?
• How many volunteers are active now?
• Are the instructors supported?
• What support do you have from the university?
• Where does your curriculum come from?
• Do your committees reflect your needs?
• What is the most important objective to your organization?
• Who does your community networking?
NOW LOOK FOR THE ROCKS (NOT THE SAND)…
What makes you unique?
When members talk about your program what do they highlight?
What makes your community/culture?
Name things that consistently draw your members together.
What do you want to accomplish/what is your focus?
Play off your strengths.
MISSION STATEMENT

…The evolving success of the program will be measured by: 1. the enthusiasm and
excitement exhibited by our members for the courses, instructors and various programs,
2. by member participation in the operation of the program,
3. by retained and increased membership, and
4. by the sense of community members share with one another. Your Vision
