Mellon fellowships
• MMUF – Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship. Sophomores who plan to pursue a Ph.D. in specific fields (5C)
• MURF – Mellon Undergraduate Research Fellowships in the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences (Scripps only)

Mellon Undergraduate Research Fellowships in Fine Arts,
Humanities or Social Sciences
EligibilityResearch Fellowship: Scripps College
students who have completed Core 3 (usually) and whose faculty-directed research projects are in the humanities, social sciences, or fine arts.
Pre-Thesis Fellowship: Scripps College Juniors whose senior thesis will be in the humanities, social sciences, or fine arts.
Timing of Awards• February 12th deadline for Summer
2016 projects• Summer fellowships are $4,500 for 10
weeks of full time work• Students participating in a research
fellowship are eligible to apply for a pre-thesis fellowship as juniors

Application/Implementation Timeline
• Application Deadline – February 12th
• Students will present the outcomes of their projects in a research symposium at Scripps early in Fall, 2017 semester
• Students will submit a 5-page summary of their findings at the end of the summer
Mellon –spring funding
• Research or pre-thesis awards available for spring 2017
• Applications on a rolling basis through the start of the spring semester
• Research assistants are paid• Pre-thesis provides research supplies
or travel, but students are not paid
Hearst Foundation Awards
• Pre-thesis research in summer• Mentored research in summer• Senior thesis research materials during
the academic year• February 12th deadline. • Funds available this semester for senior
thesis
Johnson Summer Research Grants
• $4,000 award plus $300 for equipment or supplies
• Funds interdisciplinary research• Application deadline: February 12th, 2017• Apply online – see fellowships website• Present results early next fall at the
annual research symposium and submit a 5-page report
Hsu fund for project in China• Students or faculty are eligible• Students can combine with Johnson,
Esterly, or Mellon, if relevant• Award is for $2,500• Applications due February 12th, 2017• Application is online on fellowships

Arthur Vining Davis2017 Student Summer Library
Internship• Conduct research in the library’s collections of
primary source materials from June-August 2017.
• $4,000 stipend for summer• Requires faculty member endorsement of
their project. • Write a paper of between four and five pages

Davis Projects for Peace• $10,000 to support a student (or group
of students) to create a grassroots project to promote peace anywhere in the world
• Deadline – January 22, 2017. Apply online (see fellowships website)
• Scripps recommends one project for funding and one alternate
Donald A. Strauss Foundation Scholarship
• $10,000 scholarship to fund student-designed and implemented public service project
• Apply by February 13, 2017 (see online application information and forms on fellowships website)
• Scripps may nominate up to 3 candidates –sophomores and juniorsare eligible
