Interior Design Intern (Full-time), i-am associates (www.i-amonline.com), London

I was assigned to the 3D team, where my role was to assist the senior designers in developing concept presen-tations, creating 2D drawing packages, image rendering and model-making. I worked on several projects at the same time where I had to meet tight deadlines.

I was also responsible for the materials library, which meant I was constantly liasing with new construction and materials suppliers, in order to keep the company up to date of new technologies, furniture and material ranges.

Interior Design Work Placement (Full-time), Space Design Studios (www.spacedesignstudios.com), London

My role in this small practice was to support the Managing Director with the implementation of a number of projects. This included the day to day liaison with contractors and suppliers, attending meetings and presenting design schemes to clients. I also contributed to the decision making part of the design process, which meant coming up with concepts and putting together mood boards, suggesting effective space layouts, choosing fab-rics and finishes and image rendering. I have also attended several CPD events hosted by Domus, Porcelanosa and Corian.

Exhibitions and Marketing Support (Part-time), Collage Arts (www.collage-arts.org), London

I worked directly with artists, creative practitioners and curators to produce visual art exhibitions within Collage Arts' premises in London and in the Livry-Gargan Gallery in Paris. For two years I made an important contribution to the production of Collage Arts' largest annual event, 'Open Studios', which gave me the opportunity to work with a PR company. My role also included the design of marketing materials, communication with the media, administration of social media profiles and the maintenance of the company's and artists network websites: www.collage-arts.org & www.chocolatefactoryartists.co.uk

Retail/Sales Assistant (Part-time), Boutique Guapa, Malaga, Spain

    My responsabilities included:

    - Working unsupervised, opening and closing the shop.- Providing a satisfactory customer service to our clients.- Advising the customers on the products.

It is a safe place for people to engage in activities which help

bring worldwide hidden information to the public eye. For a long

time people have had limited access to information concerning

the reality of the society we live in. It is in the interest of our govern-

ments that we remain ignorant and oblivious to what actually goes

on and the media is one of the main and most powerful political

sources which achieves keeping us distracted.

The purpose of House Incognito is to facilitate the access of im-

portant and confidential politically related information to the public.

This knowledge will give the people power and a voice to make a

stand against corrupt decisions made by our governments.

Members of House Incognito will have their anonymity protected

and should therefore not feel hesitant in sharing secret information.

It is run by a group of journalists, undercover and ex governments

workers and skilled people in mixed media. Though not directly

open to the public, due to its low key profile, it does offer work-

shops for people keen on being involved with this organisation.

    SKETCHES01.1 INTERNAL STRUCTURES & LAYOUT

My space has 3 main areas: workshops, media studios and hack-ing spaces. These areas are organised on different levels. The hack-ing spaces (Whistleblower areas) are highly secretive areas due to the risky nature of the work that goes on in there. People attending Workshops are oblivious to what goes on in these hacking stations and the same goes for the Makers (Studios). My idea is to give the whole space an image of a transparent place.

    01.2

Anyone attending the Workshops can see all the different areas but will not be able to access them due to the layout. My design is based on Solid forms and transparencies, showing just enough to keep your curiousity at bay. The space features several walkways and ramps which connect each of the enclosed spaces. Some are slightly more hidden with difficult access.

  • In a day and age where we are constantly watched through cctv and digitally monitered, privacy becomes a luxury. The Workshop area is composed by 4 main spaces. The first you come across is the reception areas, flanked by 2 different workshops. At the far end there is a communal area which is completely open. The work-shops offers services which teach you how to protect your privacy in this technological era. One of the workshops offers one to one sessions while the other is for larger groups people.

WorkshopsHouse Incognito has state of the art studios which offer the chance to get creative when it comes to sharing information. Weekly arti-cles and journalist reports are published by our team on our mag-azine and are handed out in different locations in London. The Film studios offers the chance to create short features, which reach a larger demographic. The studios occupy the largest space and is composed by 5 areas.

Studios WhistleblowersThis group remains anonymous to outsiders and to most insiders. These group of people call the shots. They gather important infor-mation and through their contacts and the media, they spread this information. These are the founders of House Incognito. This space os characterized for its individual working pods. There are 6 pods connected by ramp walkways.

In a future where we continue to wear out all natural resources as

a result of our culture of high consumerism, Wood Street becomes

a great example of an area able to help battle mass consump-

tion. Specialising in the regulation of furniture and craft goods, it

intends to promote a culture of Re-Use, Re-Make and simple love

and care for our possessions. This scheme will not only help han-

dle consumerist societies but will also give us a new outlook on

our possessions used in our daily lives, giving it an added value

    that money cant buy.

In this space I want to create a patchwork between the old and

new. The old representing the existing memory of this space and

the new representing the technological advances. I want to show

these contrasts in the use of materials.

As technology continues to advance, it will allow objects to store their mem-

ories: from the moment they were made all the way through their life cycle

until they are disassembled to give way to a new object. These memories

adopt a digital form enabling us to see them.

The idea is that this will be an essential tool to create bonds between hu-

man + object. By being aware of our objects past and history, a new layer

of sentimental value is added on top of the superficial. We will become

more attached to these items and consequently our culture of buy and

    throw away will diminish.

    Repair

This is the best advised choice. When you choose to repair an object

you add extra memory to an item. Bearing in mind the scarcity of natural

resources, 3D printed man-made materials will be used for the repair pro-

cess. The end result will be a form of furniture patchwork, making it unique

in many ways and adding more value to it.

    Disassemble

This part of the process begins when one decides to get rid of their item.

In other words when they choose to abandon it due to lack of attachment

    to the object.

Though there is a period, before being taken apart, when they are stored

in the event that someone wants to adopt it. If after a certain amount of time

they arent re-possesed, they are disassembled, erasing its whole memo-

ry. A new object with a fresh new memory is made from the remains of the

    previous object.

    This diagram explains the

    different journies that can be

    made depending on your

    choice. The Decision space is

the centre point and from here

on all routes divide. A person

may think they know what their

    journey outcome will be, but

    we will challenge them and

    maybe even persuade them

    to take a different route.

    LOCATION & SCHEME STRATEGY02.2

The different shops present a strategical layout based on

the choices people make. Repair workshops are located

on the left side of the road, next to the Decision space

and Collection point. This is intentional as it forms a com-

pact route. Its proximity could encourage people to opt

for repairing rather than getting rid of items.

The Re-make shop located on the right side of the road

is at a distance from the main reception and Decision

space. This route can be likened to that of a walk of

shame. Next to the Re-make area is the Save shop giving

final opportunity to passerbys to save items from loosing

its history, thus memory destruction. If this is the case, the

object will be disintegrated and formed into a completely

new item with a new memory.

A Retail Experience: I chose to design the Decision space since its the central point of this

scheme. Here, the objects/furniture are taken to the back of the shop, which encircles the main

space, where they will be scanned and their memories retrieved. While this happens, the cli-

ents go to the Pods to view these memories which will then lead them to decide whether they

want to fix the item or get rid of it.

The front of the shop is designed more as a retail space since it is here where you can view

adverts of other objects memories and also buy any second hand items before they are dis-

    assembled.

Inhabit was a residential project aimed at young fashion students

living in London. My idea for these residential halls was based

on a social and open living plan. Knowing that this type of client is

young and artistic, I chose to design a vibrant space with quirky

elements and a grunge style interior.

The designer Alexander Mcqueens performance catwalks in-

spired the look of my overall design. The space has a capacity

of up to 4 students and the idea is that they too can work in this

space. For this, I intended to create a balance between an excit-

ing living space and a working environment for these students.

This open space includes a lounge area and kitchen right at the centre, flanked by

2 bedrooms on each side. Both sides of the bedrooms share one bathroom which

physically separates the two. As part of my social and open living idea, I use the min-

imum amount of walls as I can. Instead I use alternative partition systems to separate

spaces. In this case I have decided to use a curtain of oxidized chains for the students

rooms. Some of the furniture in these rooms also function as a space partition.

  • MOXONRetail Concept

    04

Moxon was a retail project focused on selling exclusive and luxu-

ry socks. The design concept centres around an English Gentle-

man style drawing inspiration from retail stores like those located

    on Savile Row, Mayfair.

This new space would be an addition to an existing shop and

the idea was to design a space based on English Heritage and

Luxury. The display units will showcase the fine detailed fabrics

used in the fabrication of these socks and a central point will be

the hospitality area designed specifically for the clients.

My role was to come up with a design concept and create a

mood/materials board to give the client a better understanding

of the direction we were taking. Once the client was happy, I

proceeded in drawing the final layout and elevations and hand

drawing and rendering some of the visuals.

  • CHILANGORestaurant - Leather Lane, London

    05

Chilango is a UK chain of Mexican burritos. During my time work-

ing in i-am associates, I worked on two of these restaurant proj-

ects. I was more involved with the Chilango located in Leather

Lane, since I had arrived in the middle of this project. I sourced

and designed the layout of the decorative and colourful wall tiles

used in the interior and exterior.

The idea was to have a larger Shrine which would attract attention.

I worked on getting all the materials we needed for the Shrine, in-

cluding all the Mexican mini Shrines, Statues and crosses. I had

the most fun putting the Shrine together on site and the feedback

    has been very positive.

    THE SHRINE05.2

    Internal tile layout & Shrine

    I was assigned the task

    of designing the Shrine,

    dedicated to the Virgen of

    Guadalupe (see Statue)

    for Chilango. This included

    sourcing all the materials

and objects that were to be

    used and displayed. Once

on site I put the Shrine to-

    gether and this was the

    end result.

    WOK WALA06Space Design StudiosOctober 2012 - February 2013

  • WOK WALAStreet Kitchen - Ilford, London

    06

Wok Wala is a fast food restaurant of Indian and Malaysian cui-

sine. Located in Ilford, the clients wanted to give the local high-

streets current restaurant scene some competition. The idea was

to design a colourful and bold space inspired by the buzz and

colours of Asian street food markets.

During my time working in Space Design Studios, Wok Wala was

one of the few projects where I was completely involved from the

beginning all up until its completion. I was involved in every stage

of this project, including the branding phase.

    FLAVOURS07Space Design StudiosFebruary - April 2013

  • FLAVOURSRestaurant - Burnt Oak, London

    07

Flavours is an Indian restaurant located in Burnt Oak. The idea

for this project was to create a modern and colourful interior with

delicate finishes and details. The space is quite large and there is

an area with several Carrom boards (Indian board game), where

    several championship events are held.

We drew inspiration from the splash of colours you find in an Indi-

an spice market and used different wall finishes to give the space

for texture. On this project, I worked on putting together the draw-

ing package, including several layout proposals, lighting and fin-

    ishes plans and detailed elevations.
