By the 1960s, the company, then known as AAT, had become Sydney’s largest tour operator and in the 1980s we teamed up with pioneering adventurer Bill King’s outback tours to form what we know today as AAT Kings all around Australia.

The leaderIn 2013 more people chose to travel with AAT Kings than any other guided holiday company in Australia. With more than 85 years experience, we’re recognised and awarded by our industry and are committed to maintaining a high standard and creating a memorable experience for our guests.

Our luxury fleetWith another 18 new luxurious coaches joining our fleet from 2013, our vehicles are the newest in Australia. years ago. Your Guide will share the history of their fascinating evolution while you take in the great spectacle of this natural wonder. If you find you can only count 9 Apostles and not 12 – test your Driver Guide’s knowledge as to why!!

Scenic WalkThere are many walks around the location of the Twelve Apostles providing closer access to the shoreline. From the cliff top viewing area you can absorb the grandeur of this iconic site and take some photographs.

Loch Ard GorgeNow you’ll visit the beautiful Loch Ard Gorge and learn of the ill-fated English ship ‘Loch Ard’ that ran aground on nearby Muttonbird Island in 1878. The ship sank within 15 minutes, taking with it all but two of the 54 passengers and crew on board. The survivors came ashore and found refuge at what is now known as Loch Ard Gorge, a striking example of the process of erosion.

Port CampbellNow you can take a well earned break at the gorgeous little seaside village of Port Campbell. Sheltered by cliffs and Norfolk pines, this little haven has a colourful and lively personality. You can treat yourself to afternoon tea at one of the cafés or bakeries luring you to homemade treats (own expense). You can also enjoy a wander through the boutique stores and galleries – there’s plenty here to tempt you.

itinerary En RouteToday’s tour is packed with great locations, incredible views and natural wonders. So, sit back and relax while your Driver Guide provides expert commentary on all the key landmarks along the way.

Great Ocean RoadThe Great Ocean Road stretches for 243 kilometres along the stunning south-eastern coast between Torquay and Warrnambool. An Australian National Heritage listed road, it was built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932. The road winds through gorgeous terrain along the coast and leads you to many significant landmarks and natural wonders.

Apollo BayAt the foothills of the Otways lies the gorgeous seaside village of Apollo Bay. Surrounded by rolling green hills and ocean, Apollo Bay is a lively holiday destination during summer. Here you can relax and treat yourself to lunch at one of the many cafés and restaurants, or you can join us at the Apollo Bay Hotel (own expense) to enjoy some great food and local hospitality.

is fortunate enough to be home to the largest colony in the world. We cherish our Little Penguin colony and to protect them, all revenue generated from the parade is invested back into research, environment and education projects to ensure their species flourishes.

itinerary En RouteThis afternoon you’ll travel south-east, heading to Westernport Bay. During the journey your Driver Guide will ensure you don’t miss any of the key landmarks along the way.

South-Eastern Suburbs of MelbourneThe early part of the trip will take you through many of Melbourne’s affluent suburbs. Here you’ll see many modern buildings alongside beautiful federation homes, many built in the late 1800s. As the South Gippsland Highway approaches the landscape becomes more rural with smaller townships and farming properties along the way.

San RemoSan Remo is the gateway to Phillip Island and the region’s seafood capital. As you travel through this quaint fishing village you’ll see local fishermen casting a line off the jetty. For those interested in a bigger catch, San Remo offers a number of charters out on the ocean where even sharks are known to take the bait!

Phillip IslandNext you’ll cross the only bridge that connects Phillip Island to the mainland. While Phillip Island is famous for its Little Penguin Parade, it also boasts an amazing coastline with ideal surf conditions and a huge range of wildlife. Another key attraction of Phillip Island is Australia’s Motorcycle Grand Prix track.

Information CentreThis huge visitors’ facility has a range of information available on Phillip Island, its history, wildlife, and of course, the Penguin Parade. Here you can learn about the Little Penguin and its lifestyle. You can also browse through their souvenir shop for your own little piece of Penguin memorabilia.

Penguin ParadeNow you’ll head down to Summerland Beach to witness a Little Penguin magic. You’ll most certainly fall in love with these little guys. Just as the sun sets over the ocean, the Little Penguins emerge from the sea and waddle up the beach to their sand dune burrows. These Little Penguins are the smallest of the penguin species and Phillip Island

As the South Gippsland Highway approaches, the landscape becomes more rural dotted with smaller townships and farming properties.

Maru Koala & Animal ParkFirst stop is Maru Koala & Animal Park for up close and personal encounters with koalas, kangaroos, Tasmanian Devils and much more!

Phillip IslandYou’ll cross the only bridge that connects Phillip Island to the mainland. Home to the famous Penguin Parade, Phillip Island also features a stunning coastline with great surf conditions and a range of wildlife including the largest colony of fur seals in Australia. It is also the location of our Motorcycle Grand Prix track, so it’s no wonder this island paradise attracts up to 3 million visitors each year.

Nobbies Rock FormationsBefore reaching the site of the Penguin Parade you’ll see the ‘Nobbies’, so named for its unique rock formations. Located at the western tip of the island, this area has high conservation significance due to its population of penguins and graceful sea birds.

Penguin ParadeSo you think the koalas are cute – just wait until you see the Little Penguins. After visiting the information centre and souvenir shop, you’ll head down to Summerland Beach to witness some penguin magic. Just as the sun sets, the wild Little Penguins emerge from the sea after a hard days fishing and waddle across the sand to their dune burrows. These Little Penguins are the smallest of the penguin species and Phillip Island is home to the largest colony in the world. It’s easy to understand why this wonderful spectacle is one of Australia’s most popular wildlife attractions. To protect these Little Penguins, all revenue generated from the parade is invested into environment and education projects.

Returns:  5.30pm approximately

Street TheatreYou’ll be entertained by the many performances each day illustrating the exciting and colourful life on the gold fields. With wonderful costumes of the day and many stories to share, the characters will sweep you up in the fun of it all.

WorkshopsYou can also visit a number of operational workshops and witness demonstrations of blacksmithing, wheel wrighting, gold pouring, candle making and many more.

itinerary En RouteToday you’ll step back in time to the era of the Victorian gold rush. First you’ll head out over the West Gate Bridge, en route to the beautiful town of Ballarat. Sit back and relax with entertainment introducing you to Sovereign Hill, a wonderful outdoor museum exhibiting in ‘real life’ the story of Australia’s gold rush history.

BallaratAs you arrive in Ballarat you’ll come to understand the historical significance of this town. In its centre the lush tree-lined streets are filled with grand homes of the Victorian era, many the result of prosperity from the gold fields of the 1850s. Today, Ballarat is a major regional centre and the commercial capital of the Central Highlands with a population of almost 100,000.

Sovereign HillWhen you arrive at Sovereign Hill you’ll be placed back in time to the great gold rush era of the 1850s. It’s just like stepping into a working town of the time, with period-style homes, shops and retailers, blacksmiths, hotels and costumed characters that bring the exhibition to life. You can wander through the town to get a feel for the lifestyle as it was then.

Eureka StockadeThe first thing that you’ll experience at Sovereign Hill is the amazing story of the Eureka Stockade, an event that was fuelled by government taxes that were being imposed on miners at the time. The first armed rebellion of its kind in Australia, it led to the deaths of twenty-two diggers and five troopers, and changed Australia’s history forever with the birth of democracy.

Red Hill Mine TourGo down into the depths of a real underground gold mine and discover the dark and dangerous world of deep lead mining. Here you’ll also witness the discovery of the famous ‘Welcome Nugget’.

Gold-panningOne of the many fun things you can do at Sovereign Hill is pan for gold. There are diggers on hand to show you the tricks used to strike it rich, and then you can have a go and try your own luck.

Tasmanian Devil

optional add-onTour + Ballarat Wildlife Park
