Not counting drums, what do you do for fun?Besides playing the drums, the number one thing I like to do is go tothe movies. If I‘m not at the movies, I‘m at home watching a DVD.I‘ve actually been in a couple of movies. You might recognize me as thebartender opposite Tom Cruise in the movie “Cocktail.” I also love totravel. This summer I‘m planning a trip to the moon.


My favorite cymbal is my Mb20 20“ Heavy Crash.What‘s the highlight of your career so far?I guess I would have to say opening shows for Iron Maiden wasdefinitely a crowning achievement, and were some of thebest times I‘ve had on tour.

Not counting drums, what do you do for fun?To get away from the glitz and glamour of my superdummer touring

lifestyle, I like to indulge in home improvement. I mow the lawn,take out the trash, fix the fence and I bake out on the couch.

What‘s the highlight of your career so far?Witnessing the production of my signature cymbals at the MEINL

football team, IFK Gothenburg.


That has to be my Mb20 18“ Heavy Crash.It has a massive sound and is extremely durable.

What‘s the highlight of your career so far?That was when we opened up for Iron Maiden in ourhometown of Gothenburg in front of 55,000 peopleand got an extremely good response.

MARCH 29 – APRIL 1, 2006FRANKFURT, GERMANYEvery year the music world gets together at the inter-

national Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany. It is thebiggest event of its kind worldwide. With MEINL being a

globally active manufacturer, it is a necessity to maintain

an attractive booth and have artists on site to showcase

their skills and the cymbals‘ sounds. During Musikmesse

2006, MEINL artists Rodney Holmes, Johnny Rabb, Felix

Lehrmann, Benny Greb and Dirk Erchinger performed in

a sound proof room at the MEINL booth.

This annual event which takes place in Melbourne, Australia, is a

weekend full of drum performances and masterclasses by some of the

leading drummers on the planet.

years on video and DVD, I‘ve had the honor and pleasure toperform at the show twice myself.

BRANN DAILORThe Modern Drummer Festival was one of the scariestthings I‘ve ever done, but half way through I didn‘t want it

to end. I met some great people and saw some incredibledrummers.

The Modern Drummer Festival in New Jersey, USA is by far the most

important and prestigious drum event worldwide. Being invited to play at

the Modern Drummer Festival is the highest accolade for any drummer.

BENNY GREBRHYTHM Marktoberdorf is probably the best drum camp inthe world. It was an honor and a great experience to teachand also learn from all the other guys like Wolfgang Haffner

and Johnny Rabb. Great fun!

Every other year a select group of drummers meet in the Bavarian Music Academy in Marktoberdorf, Germany

to teach students from all over Europe. The most amazing aspects about RHYTHM are the camaraderie and the

legendary „drum hangs“ among the students and teachers. It is a very special event and is recommended for all

serious drummers.

JOHNNY RABBI have had the privilege of being part of RHYTHM in Markt-oberdorf in 2002, 2004 and 2006. This camp is one of the bestdrum events in the world which brings together world-class

The international convention of the Percussive Arts Society is a gathering of the drum industry exhibiting

their latest products and inventions to an interested crowd of drummers. Taking place in a different U.S. city

every year, it also hosts countless drum and percussion workshops of renowned musicians.

In my opinion the Strhess tour was the best summer tourof ´06. There was a great variety of music which drew adifferent crowd for all of the bands. Personally, I was stokedto be on tour with Shadows Fall again. I always love touringand hanging out with those guys. I hope we can do it againsometime in the future.

What‘s the Chris Adler “Pure Metal Ride” all about?

Failure. The inspiration of the Pure Metal Ride is failure – across the board. No oneseemed to be able to create a ride cymbal that had such a personality that it could

What are the Thomas Lang “Fast Hihats” all about? My favourite cymbal in my set-up are the 13" Fast Hihats. Why? Let me tell you why:It has a clean, polished top but a filthy dirty bottom (like Yin and Yang, it is all in one).It is pristine yet messed up, it is full of contrast and controversy. It giggles with achildlike voice when gently tickled with the tip of my sticks and roars like a wild animalwhen brutally abused. It snaps at me when I slam my boot down on the pedal andhisses like a snake when I splash it with my foot. It barks when I whack it with theshoulder of my stick and it screams when I ride it half open. It translates my every

mood, vision and feel into sounds I like to hear. After hours of violent abuse it still sitsthere on the stand, shiny and unhurt, innocently smiling at me, as if it was saying: “Ohyeah? Is that all you‘ve got little drummer boy?”

Every beginning drummer faces the same question: What is the best way to position the first basic cymbal set-up around

the drum kit? The knowledge and experience that will help to guarantee a relaxed playing position on the drum kit is not

something that the beginning drummer has. An important issue in ensuring comfortable playing is the correct positioning of

the cymbals. Following are some valuable guidelines for the ambitious beginner.

The drum throne is the center of every drum kit and is also the most ergonomically crucial spot. Starting from here, it is

essential that everything is comfortably accessible and easy to reach without having to twist or bend. All cymbals should

lean and face towards the throne. This ensures long lasting and comfortable playing without physical problems.

Note: Positioning of cymbals is listed under the assumption of the drummer beingright-handed. If the drummer is left-handed, please reverse the set-up.
