In collaboration with the students of Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris, this charette regenerates the unused median at the Stalingrad Metro Station.
A bright orange pathway safely bridges pedestrians from the metro station to a park across a busy intersection. It is a “Mid Line” occupying the space vertically between complex vehicular traffi c and a functional elevated metro line. Intersecting volumes provide programmatically fl exible spaces that are staggered to provide adaquate access around them. The translucent glass both obscures and reveals activity on each side offering a dynamicrelationship between intimate and public space.

This project exemplifi es a fl uid digital to analog workfl ow across multiple programs. The challenge was to create a curved waffl e structure model. This was accomplished by making a Grasshopper defi nition that was capable of parametrically determining the shape, spacing, and size of the vase-like form. Once the form was fi nalized, the structure wasunrolled in Rhinoceros to form two-dimensional pieces. The pieces were then lasercut and assembled by hand. The parametric process allows for many variations to be quickly investigated and potentially fabricated.

The Sound Building Studio culminates the fi rst fi ve design semesters with a long-span project that challenges students to integrate structure, mechanical systems, and site design within anurban context.
The Aquatic Center is a sensitive yet strong approach to anchoring the urban edge of Austin while providing access and visibility to the recreational lake. A series of trussed arches rise and fall in height to accommodate the height requirements of the diving pool, competitive lap pool, and leisure pool as well as provide daylighting and ventilation. Rippling louvers along the southern facade create a sense of privacy while engaging the adjacent Hike and Bike trail.

Inspired by some of the characteristics of the Russian Avant Garde movement, this study consists of a series of compositional models. All of the models are based on basic design elements such as balance, mass, tension, lines, and planes. Once fabricated, each model was photographed and reinterpreted to fi nd an “excess of meaning” and explore possibilities other than what they were designed for using light and occupation of space. The series culminated in a full scale installation in the stairway of Sutton Hall within the school of architecture from recycled material.

This project encompasses a landscape, urban design, and architecture proposal for a RIBA-sponsered competition for the Vauxhall Business Alliance.
Vauxhall is a London township located south of the Thames between the London Eye and Battersea Park. An elevated rail line creates and undesirable barrier that separates the primary neighborhoods from the riverfront. This project serves to reinvigorate the Vauxhall community by injecting a social media responsive lighting installation that weaves through the railway. The light path unites three distinct landscape ecosystems: - a wetlands boardwalk- the meadow fl ower market- the yard (urban farm learning center)

SOCIAL NETWORKSSocial media engagement is an important contemporary indicator of human activity. The primary demographic of this distric consists of young, social media savvy adults. A pedestrian pathway lights up in response to input from social media websites, the Socialight application, and local businesses to indicate the direction in which local events and activities are taking place out of view.

LIVING SYSTEMSConnecting three distinct living systems will give Vauxhall residents and visitors a unique opportunity to learn about and interact with a diverse range of English landscapes.- The Wetlands provide a estuarian habitat for migrating waterfowl, fi sh, and insects. The tidal Thames gives the boardwalk a dynamic quality throughout the day- The Meadow contains the recentralized fl ower market and a fl ower garden based on a long tradition of British horticulture.- The Yard contains allotment gardens, a learning center, and a farmer’s market.
