“Meeting Your Needs”

• Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians for two reasons.1. It is a thank you letter.2. It is to remind the Christians how they

are to live as Christians.– This last passage is probably the greatest

promise in the Bible.

“Meeting Your Needs”

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)

• If you look at this passage carefully, you’ll see that when the LORD makes a promise, the promise comes with a premise.

“Meeting Your Needs”

“Thank you so much. You have given sacrificially. And because you have given sacrificially, God is going to take care of your needs.”

“Meeting Your Needs”

• THE PREMISE: We must be generous to others (4:14-18).

25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25)

Matthew 6:38

38 Give to others, and God will give to you… The measure you use for others is the one God will use for you.

“Meeting Your Needs”

– God is not obligated to meet our needs if we’re not obeying what He’s told us to do.• We can block the flow of blessings by

being stingy.

“Meeting Your Needs”

– Paul gives us three reasons for being generous:• Giving is an Encouragement to others.

14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. (Phil. 4:14)

Philippians 4:15

15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;

16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need. (Phil. 4:16)

• Giving makes us like Christ.

“Meeting Your Needs”

– The reason the Philippian church chose to do this is because they wanted to make an investment in the future.

17 Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account. (Phil. 4:17)

• In the Greek may be accredited means “accumulated interest.”

• One hundred fold is 10,000% interest. 17 … I want to see profit added

to your account. (Phil 4:17, Good News)

1 Timothy 6:18-19

18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

“Meeting Your Needs”

• My giving is a sacrifice to God.18 I am amply supplied, now

that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. (Phil. 4:18)

“Meeting Your Needs”

– When you are most like Christ? …when you give sacrificially.

– Giving is just as important as singing, praying or teaching.

“Meeting Your Needs”

THE PROMISE (4:19).19 And my God will meet all

your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)

– This is the Believer’s Insurance Policy.

“Meeting Your Needs”

– Paul teaches us three things as well about the PROMISE:• The Source: “And my God will…”

Matthew 7:11

11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

“Meeting Your Needs”

• The Scope: “…will meet all your needs…”

If you are a consistent, generous giver, you can count on the promise.

“Meeting Your Needs”

This verse does not include consequences of laziness. If you’re a faithful giver, you have every right to ask God to meet your financial needs.

“Meeting Your Needs”

• The Supply: “according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (vs. 19).

• A blank check is worthless if it doesn’t have a signature on it.

• This check is signed with the name of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion– If you let the truth of this passage really

grasp you, it will revolutionize your life.– The principle is this: – If you become a giver, God will take care

of your needs.
