Student Commendations/RecognitionTrustees commended numerous students during the board meeting, as follows:
Two Alvin ISD students have been determined as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. SCHS’s Kelvin Doe and MHS’s Cara Maxwell received this recognition by representing less than 1% of the state of Texas’ high school seniors who took the PSAT and SAT exams.
Jack Armstrong competed in the UIL 5A State Swim Meet where he earned 2 gold medals, one in the 50-freestyle and one in the 100- freestyle. He also set a state record in both events!
Adel Sisy received the Presidential Award for Volunteering signed by Donald Trump for his volunteer work at the Houston Food Bank.
The Alvin High School Academic Decathlon went to state for the 4th year in a row. Competing in the Large School District Division, the team scored a school record 42,928.1 points.
The Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston’s (CAMH) Teen Council is presented Shapeshifters, which is a group exhibition featuring work by over forty Houston-area teen artists, chosen from an initial submission of over 700 works. Eight Alvin ISD students were chosen for this year’s show and make up the highest percentage of works on display from any school district. Landyn Roberts was selected as a winner of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Houston General Go Texan decorating contest.
This year’s HLSR Rodeo Art district show was a huge success with over 650 pieces of student artwork showcased beautifully in Liberty Hall. After being juried by a team of outside judges, seven pieces from students of Alvin ISD were selected to move forward to HLSR to compete on behalf of our district and were on display in the Hayloft Gallery during the rodeo.
Students from across the district participated in the Fort Worth Stock Show, San Antonio Livestock Show, Austin Livestock Show, and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
