Meeting at Sonya Kilkenny’s office re Bonbeach Primary Building Maintenance 24 th January 2018 4:05pm – 4:50pm Attendees Sonya Kilkenny’s office Sonya Kilkenny, Dylan Steed Victorian School Building Authority Greg Russell (VSBA Program Manager), Darren, Sonja School Council Anita McKenzie (SC President), Jonathan Granger (via conference call), Narelle Legg School staff Ken Jones, Elise Ioviero, Emily Malone, Martyn Waters, Patrick Walsh Parents Stacey Smith, Andrea Garwood, Andreea Sfarlea Minutes: Patrick Walsh and Anita McKenzie Purpose of meeting To discuss the emergency maintenance works currently being undertaken at Bonbeach Primary School and Pre-school. This was also to provide an opportunity for interested School Council members, parents and staff to hear directly from the VSBA and to ask questions. The Meeting Sonya Kilkenny explained that she wanted to call the meeting because the fencing is still up and from a visual perspective it looks like nothing has happened in relation to the building maintenance. It was also important that all parties heard the same message. Greg (Program Manager from VSBA) gave an overview of the status of the works. He made it clear that, currently, they have been tasked with providing a ‘Reinstatement Program’. The primary purpose of a reinstatement program is to make the building safe and operational. This is not a school upgrade at this stage. The works will be undertaken to address the termite damage and the resulting structural failure to the roofing and cladding. Three engineering reports have been completed on 15/11/17, 22/11/17 and 29/11/17. He emphasised that the termite treatment will continue for 12 months to make sure they are fully eradicated. An overview of the works from the VSBA: (Answers to questions that arose from the overview of works have been added here) A significant termite issue across the front of the school and student toilets that has affected the walls, window frames, substructure (flooring) and roof Engineering reports from November 2017 have indicated the termite damage is primarily across the front of the school The scope of the works was discussed and handed out - included in Appendix 1. However, this is now incomplete as more works have been added, e.g., carpet replacement, additional windows, gates outside toilets will be considered to be included in the scope Windows will be replaced in the girls and boys toilets and the other worst affected areas. The VSBA and builders will work with school and seek input regarding styling of the replacement windows, colour bond cladding façade and other options where possible.
