Focus

Enrollment for new and returning members began September 15, 2018 by log-ging in to 4-H Online. Remember, families that have been enrolled in 4-H previ-ously should NOT create a new profile. There is a $40 enrollment fee for each member in grades 4-12 and a $5 enrollment fee for each member in K-3.

4-H Families will have the option to pay the enrollment fee online! Otherwise a check made payable to ISU Polk County Extension Office can be mailed or dropped off to the Polk County Extension Office, 1625 Adventureland Drive, Ste. A, Altoona, IA 50009. Enrollments are not considered complete until members have (1) enrolled in 4-H Online and (2) paid the $40 enrollment fee.

INCENTIVE! Clubs that have 90% of their enrollments completed by November 15, 2018 will get to choose an incen-tive gift for their club.

The absolute enrollment deadline to be eligible to exhibit at the 2019 Polk County Fair is May 15, 2019. However, youth are not considered active members until they have completed their enrollment. This means inactive members will not receive Clover Power and will not be covered by insurance at 4-H events, including club meetings.

If you have questions about enrolling in 4-H Online or paying the enrollment fee, contact Megan.

If you need financial assistance to pay the enrollment fee, contact Marci.

Polk County Fair | July 17-22, 2019

Iowa State Fair | August 8-18, 2019

The Polk County 4-H Advisory Board is excited to announce that they will be hosting quarterly workshops! Their goal with these workshops is to increase the number of events provided to 4-H youth throughout the year, as well to pro-vide youth the opportunity to develop projects and/or project based skills that are able to be taken to the Polk Coun-ty Fair! The Advisory Board is committed to providing workshops that the youth will find beneficial, interesting, and most of all, provide a fun and new learning opportunity. For that reason, this survey has been created in an attempt to gather information from the youth, leaders, and parents to determine what types of Workshops will be held. Please help the Advisory Board by completing the survey below!

State 4-H Recognition is the process in which senior 4-H members in grades 9-12 can apply to be selected for special statewide opportunities such as awards and trips.

Please note, we have updated many of the processes related to State Recognition Day. If you have participated in the past, you will find that the following changes have been made and may be helpful to know about in advance of apply-ing.

The online application process has been moved to 4HOnline. Applications for each opportunity (below) are in a fillable PDF format to facilitate a smoother process for writing, reviewing and revising prior to submission. One, one-page resume per youth is the only supplemental material requested in addition to your application(s).

Project area awards and Iowa 4-H Reporters are both offered as a written-application-only process (no in-person interview required). Interviews for SESS Ambassador, National 4-H Conference, National 4-H Congress and State 4-H Council will be limited to a pre-determined maximum number (below) and those will be determined through the written applica-tion round. Interviews will now be 20 minutes long instead of 10. Applications are currently avilable at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/recognition-opportunities

You will be able to start submitting applications November 15, 2018. Please contact Marci if you have questions about the new process!

So what is it? Clubs take part in the challenge by introducing a variety of healthy living practices during club meetings each month. Completing the challenges earns the clubs "miles" as they race across Iowa throughout all 20 regions of the state. This 1,400 mile route destination sure fulfills the definition of a challenge, but by working together as a team and setting goals to incorporate healthy living practices each month, we hope to see you meet or surpass the final mile by the end of June! Miles are awarded for Offer water as the main beverage at club meetings, include a fruit and/or vegetable as a snack choice and/or organize a physical activity to get moving for 10-15 minutes.

The Race Across Iowa is open to 4-H and Clover Kid Clubs.
