MEET RIVERS FREDRICK, MD & JACOB YOIST, MD

CLASS OF 1897

Graduating in 1897, Rivers Fredrick, MD and Jacob Yoist, MD are UIC’s earliest known African-American

physician graduates. At the time, the College of Medicine was officially known as the College of

Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago (“P&S” for short).

MEET ISABELLA GARNETT, MDCLASS OF 1901

Graduating in 1901, Isabella Garnett, MD is UIC’s earliest known African-American female

physician graduate.
