Meerkat is powering up the web and live events
Meerkat is totally powering up both the web and events.
Have you not seen that goofy black and white creature on that way too yellow background? Dudes, you can even it put on your chest.
So what is this black on yellow creature all about?
Meerkat crept into our feeds, and to the top of the itunes store seemingly overnight. The smartlivestreaming app has taken off on Twitter like nobodys business.
While livestreaming is nothing new, Meerkat, an easy-to-use iPhone app, makes it easier than itsever been. The Meerkat app links with Twitter accounts, letting a person on one side of the phonestream a live video feed of whatever theyre looking at or a video selfie. Its the era of thelive stream, and because this new app is so easy to use, people got time for that.
Meerkat click here has traction; it has users, it even has a term for streaming video coinedMeerkatting. This just goes to show sometimes, being first, even when the app isnt aspolished as a competitor, is enough to keep you ahead of the curve. This is true even when a rivalhas the power of a social media giant like Twitter behind it.
Meerkat is a little app that's turning live video into a big deal again. Meerkat, in other words, isTwitters obsession of the moment. Like many seeming overnight successes, it was a long timecoming and benefited from a combination of hard-won startup wisdom, influential early fans and sogood ole luck.
Maybe Meerkat will fade like a pet rock. Or maybe Twitter will announce an acquisition, but livevideo inside social networks feels inevitable.
And remember all mobile devices will always need a cell phone charging station.
