Medium Speed, Four Stroke Diesel Engines

Page 2: Medium Speed, Four Stroke Diesel Engines

Fairbanks Morse Engine was formedin 1885 by the merger of the EclipseWindmill Company and the WilliamsSteam Engine Works. Since thattime, Fairbanks Morse Engine hasmanufactured a wide variety ofproducts, with the greatest successbeing the manufacture of dieselengines.

In 1968, FME acquired the exclusiveU.S. license to market, sell, andmanufacture the S.E.M.T.- Pielstickengine for both commercial andU.S. government programs. Thispartnership between FME andS.E.M.T. has produced state-of-the-art Colt-Pielstick engines that are“made in the U.S.A.” Colt-Pielstickengines power the LSD-41 WhidbeyIsland class, the TAO Henry J.Kaiser class, the T-AKR Bob Hopeclass, and the LPD-17 San Antonioclass ships. The Colt-Pielstick PA6Bis being introduced to the Navysupply system as the ship servicediesel generator sets for the LHD-8ship.

In 1995, FME furthered its globalpartnership by acquiring theexclusive U.S. license to market,sell, and manufacture MAN B&Wengines for U.S. governmentprograms, allowing access to a widerange of technologically advanceddiesel engines that are also “madein the U.S.A.” FME is currentlymanufacturing FM-MAN B&W 48/60engines for the new integrateddiesel electric-drive T-AKE Lewisand Clark class ships.

Manufacturing engines andproviding aftermarket sales andservice is the primary business ofFairbanks Morse Engine. The Colt-Pielstick product line includes thePA6B, PC2.5, PC2.6B, and PC4.2B.The PA6B and PC2.5 are availablewith Sequential Turbocharging(STC) for low speed, high torqueapplications. The FM-MAN B&Wproduct line includes the 27/38,32/40, 40/54, 48/60B, and 58/64engines.

Fairbanks Morse manufacturing facilities, totaling some 70 acres, are located in Beloit, WI.

Emission ControlAll engines can be delivered tocomply with the IMO speeddependent NOx limit, measuredaccording to the ISO 8178 testcycles E2/E3 for Heavy Duty DieselEngines. The NOx emissions from agiven engine will vary according tothe engine load and the optimizingpower.

SFOC and NOx are interrelatedparameters, and an engine offeredwith both a guaranteed SFOC andthe IMO NOx limitation will besubject to a tolerance of 5% on thespecific fuel oil consumption.

MCR = Maximum Continuous Rating

Fuel Stop Power = Blocking the output of the engines at 110% of the ratedoutput. Overload > 100% may only be run for a short time for recovery and toprevent a frequency drop in case of sudden load application.

Fuel consumption rates provided upon request.

Fuel consumption rates are based on ISO reference conditions (25°C ambienttemperature, 25°C cooling water temperature upstream of charge air cooler, 1 bar barometric pressure) and a lower calorific value of the fuel of 42,000 kJ/kg.
