MEDITERRANEAN MUSIC EXPOMedimex è l’unica fi era musicale italiana, un evento che coinvolge

professionisti della musica, imprese e agenzie musicali, enti, istituzioni

culturali, media e artisti italiani ed internazionali. Una fi era mercato

dedicata ad ogni genere musicale, che si sviluppa in una ricca tre giorni

di scambi artistici e commerciali, incontri d’autore, conferenze, mee-

ting tematici, speed dating, showcase ed eventi.

Gli obbiettivi del Medimex sono molteplici: favorire scambi e accordi,

facilitare la relazione fra la musica pugliese e il mercato nazionale ed

internazionale, riunire i protagonisti della fi liera musicale per ragio-

nare su prospettive, criticità e opportunità del mercato italiano e del

Mediterraneo. 

Medimex è promosso dalla Regione Puglia - Assessorato al Me-

diterraneo, Cultura e Turismo, nell’ambito del Programma Ope-

rativo FESR (Fondo Europeo Sviluppo Regionale) Asse IV Linea

M e realizzato dal Teatro Pubblico Pugliese/Puglia Sounds in

collaborazione con MEI-Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti.

Medimex is the only music market fair in Italy, an event that sees professio-

nals of the music system, fi rms, music agencies, cultural institutions, media

and national and international artists as protagonists. A market fair dedi-

cated to all the music genres developed in 3 days full of artistic and business

exchanges, meetings, conferences, speed dating, showcases and events.

The main objective is to encourage the relationship between the regional,

Italian and International music markets – with particular attention to

the Mediterranean – in order to create an incentive for artistic exchan-

ges and business relations, and to support the development of the entire

music industry.

MEDIMEX is a project promoted by Puglia Region - Mediterranean,

Culture and Tourism Department - as part of the ERDF (European Regional

Development Fund) Operational Programme Axis IV Line M - and created by

the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, project Puglia Sounds, in collaboration with

M.E.I. (Meeting of Independent Recording Labels).

UN GRANDE EVENTO

INAUGURALE

Meraviglioso Modugno è l’evento inaugurale del Medimex, uno spet-

tacolo evento dedicato a Domenico Modugno che coinvolge alcune

delle voci più autorevoli della scena musicale italiana, per interpretare

i più grandi successi dell’autore di “Nel blu, dipinto di blu”. La prima

edizione dello spettacolo, realizzata in collaborazione con il Premio

Tenco, andata in scena il 24 novembre 2011 al Teatro Petruzzelli di

Bari, ha visto alternarsi sul palco Vinicio Capossela con le sorelle

Marinetti, Simone Cristicchi, Cristina Donà, Mauro Ermanno

Giovanardi, Pino Marino, Nada & Fausto Mesolella, Roy Paci,

Radiodervish, Peppe Servillo, Daniele Silvestri, Sud Sound

System, Paola Turci, Peppe Voltarelli. Un omaggio ai brani più

celebri e alle preziose esecuzioni dialettali della produzione del “can-

tattore italiano”, che incontrò se stesso e il mondo portando nelle sue

canzoni “l’invenzione” del mare e l’amarezza della terra, nel teatro in

cui cinquant’anni fa Modugno celebrava il centenario dell’Unità d’Ita-

lia con il “Rinaldo in Campo”.

Meraviglioso Modugno is the opening event of Medimex, a live show

dedicated to Domenico Modugno that puts together some of the most

important voices of the Italian music scene to sing the most famous suc-

cesses by the author of “Nel blu, dipinto di blu”. The fi rst edition of this

event, realized in collaboration with Premio Tenco, has been realized on

the 24th November 2011 at the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari and has seen

on the stage Vinicio Capossela with the Marinetti sisters, Simone

Cristicchi, Cristina Donà, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, Pino Ma-

rino, Nada & Fausto Mesolella, Roy Paci, Radiodervish, Peppe

Servillo, Daniele Silvestri, Sud Sound System, Paola Turci, Peppe

Voltarelli. A tribute to the most famous songs and valuable dialect exe-

cutions of the “actor-singer”, who met himself and the world bringing in

his songs “the invention” of the sea and the bitterness of the earth, in

the theater in which fi fty years ago Modugno himself celebrated the fi rst

centenary of the Unifi cation of Italy with the “Rinaldo in Campo.”

CONVEGNI, FOCUS SPEED DATINGMusica e parole, bilanci e prospettive, futuro e tendenze:

il Medimex ha ospitato 30 appuntamenti fra convegni, presentazioni,

speed dating e conferenze stampa di progetti inediti e iniziative

musicali. Appuntamenti direttamente promossi o realizzati con il

coinvolgimento di istituzioni culturali e governative, media, asso-

ciazioni di categoria e addetti ai lavori.

Music and words, balance-sheets and prospects, future and trends:

Medimex hosted 30 events including conferences, presentations,

speed datings and press conferences for new projects and musical

initiatives. Events directly promoted or created with the involve-

ment of cultural and government institutions, media, professional

associations and music operators.

Otto i convegni internazionali che hanno dato l’opportunità di discutere

e dibattere su alcune tematiche che coinvolgono tutti coloro che opera-

no, vivono e lavorano nell’ambito della musica.

Da “La Terra che risuona. La musica come promozione del territorio”,

durante il quale sono state messe a confronto importanti esperienze

di festival d’Italia, d’Europa e del nord Africa, alle “Criticità e prospet-

tive del mercato digitale italiano” (a cura di FIMI). Da “Lo Spettacolo

sostenibile”, per discutere di risorse con l’ANART, a “Musica e rivoluzio-

ne”, discussione attorno al mercato nordafricano e mediorientale. Da

“Cultura, nuovo distretto produttivo”, promosso dalla SIAE, a “La scossa

elettrica”, seminario sull’elettronica e la club culture.

Da “Over the hills and far away - Festival e showcase in giro per il mon-

do: un modo utile di fare il business?”, domanda alla quale hanno cer-

cato di rispondere alcuni produttori, discografi ci e promoter italiani e

stranieri, per concludere con “Chi ha paura della musica?”, seminario a

cura di xL di Repubblica che ha visto tra i relatori Franco Battiato, Capa-

rezza, Daniele Silvestri e Vasco Brondi.

Eight international conferences provided the chance to discuss and debate

some issues involving all those operating, living and working in the music

sector.

From “The Land Resonates. Music to promote the region”, during which

some important festivals in Italy, Europe and North Africa have been com-

pared, to “Criticalities and prospects for the Italian digital market” (pro-

moted by FIMI). From “The Sustainable Show”, to discuss resources with

the ANART, to “Music and revolution”, a discussion about the North Afri-

can and Middle Eastern market. From “Culture, a new production sector”,

promoted by General Management SIAE, to “Electric shock”, a seminar

on electronic music and the club culture. From “Festivals and showcases

around the world: a useful way to do business?”, a question which some

Italian and foreign producers, record labels and promoters have tried to

answer, to conclude with “Who’s afraid of music?”, a seminar promoted by

xL of Repubblica where the speakers included Franco Battiato, Caparezza,

Daniele Silvestri, Vasco Brondi.

SHOWCASES & MEDIMEX OFFDal reggae alla musica popolare, dai suoni dei balcani alla

sperimentazione, dall’elettronica al rock: ventuno artisti,

fra pugliesi, italiani e internazionali, si sono alternati su tre palchi

per un viaggio attraverso le sonorità del mediterraneo.

From reggae to folk music, from the sounds of the Balkans to

experimentation, from electronic music to rock: twenty-one

artists – from Apulia, Italy and abroad – have performed on

three stages in a journey through the sounds of the Mediter-

ranean.

Savina Yannatou, una tra le più signifi cative cantanti greche affi ancata da

Primavera en Salonico; The Banditi, un’esplosione di suoni duri e arrabbiati;

Bianco, esordiente ventisettenne torinese; Roberta Alloisio, una delle prin-

cipali voci della scena musicale italiana; Sonia Brex, siciliana trapiantata a

Berlino; Boom Da Bash e la loro miscela di rocksteady, roots, hip hop, soul

e drum’n’bass; Fabrizio Cammarata, cantautore siciliano affi ancato dai

Second Grace; Moussu T e Lei Jovents, progetto nato dall’unione tra Tatou

e Blu dei Massilia Sound System e il percussionista brasiliano Jam da Silva;

Rodrigo Leao, uno dei piu importanti interpreti della musica portoghese

contemporanea, affi ancato dai Cinema Ensemble; Badiaa Bouhrizi, prove-

niente dalla scena underground tunisina; Djmawi Africa, band algerina per

la prima volta in Italia; Transglobal Underground e Natacha Atlas, conosciu-

ta per la sua fusione della musica araba con la musica etno-elettronica.

rian band in Italy for the fi rst time; Transglobal Underground and Natacha

Atlas, known for her fusion of Arab and ethno-electronic music.

Il Premio Medimex Miglior artista italiano è

stato consegnato a Vinicio Capossela “artista

italiano che nel corso della carriera, e con il suo

ultimo Marinai, Profeti e Balene, è riuscito a

creare opere che rappresentano una perfetta

sintesi fra l’espressione più alta della musica

italiana e un immaginario lirico e sonoro che

ha radici profonde nella tradizione culturale

del Mediterraneo”, mentre il premio Medimex

miglior artista internazionale è andato a

Natacha Atlas “artista internazionale che

nel corso della carriera è riuscita a creare

una fusione fra le musiche e le sonorità del

Mediterraneo”.

The Medimex Best Italian Artist Award went to

Vinicio Capossela “an Italian artist who - dur-

ing his career and with his latest work “Mari-

nai, Profeti e Balene” - has created a perfect

synthesis between the best of Italian music

and a lyrical and musical tradition deeply root-

ed in the traditional Mediterranean culture”.

The Medimex Best International Artist Award

went to Natacha Atlas “an international artist

who has created a fusion between the musics

and sounds of the Mediterranean”.

Radio Tre who followed the fair market through reports, live and cus-

tomized programs. xL di Repubblica, the main Italian music magazine,

has devoted an extensive report in the November 2011 issue, a fi nal

report in the January one and participated to the fair with a booth

from which the editors followed all the activities reporting on the
