The lands of Meadal are populated by the humans fleeing the /ragon Fing* as (ell as the manyraces they displaced (hen they arrived and raised the 0eil& This environment has led to most of thedomains in the land being very tolerant of most other races& The elves* d(arves* fae and sarr areoften found living right ne7t to and amongst the humans (ho settled& 6roups like the dae* (ildraces and those gobliniod decent* are treated (ith a guarded mistrust by some* but accepted by othergroups of humans&

The cosmopolitan nature has also led to the usage of a common language by it4s inhabitants* both(ritten and spoken& Some of the older races still use their o(n language amongst themselves andthe various regions each have their o(n dialects* but (hen dealing (ith others .ommon is spokenalmost e7clusively&

The humans that settled behind the 0eil brought and founded their o(n bloodlines kno(n as theouses& The ouses in turn craved out the most po(erful domains for themselves and the leadersof the ouses claimed the title of /uke& The /ukes in turn formed a council (here they attempt toresolve matters peacefully and have so far kept violence to a minimum& The baronies that make upthe area that used to belong to ouse orgus ho(ever continuously battle amongst each* as each(arlord tries to unite the fractured domain&

All the duchies use a silver based currency* (here ten silver s are e)ual to one gold coin& #t (asdecided by /ucal council* that in order to maintain strong trading ties a single currency (ould beused and that no lord4s face (ould grace these coins& #nstead the coins resemble small* groovedrods* (ith gold coins (eighing close to an ounce each& The grooved design has made the coinse7ceptionally hard to forge for counterfeiters&

The guilds"men (ho fled the forces of the /ragon Fing* (ere granted protection by the variousouses and (ere often absorbed into the ouses& This has led to precious fe( guilds still being inoperation in Meadal* but they are slo(ly starting to re"merge from the shado( of the ouses andstaking their claim&
