A n award-winning physician, Dr. Stefan Andrejicka has been providing psychiatric services to adults and children facing mental health issues for the last 20 years. A specialist in depression, anxiety, panic disorders and suicide prevention, he uses a variety of treatments to help his patients achieve optimal mental health. “The needs of every patient [are] different, so it is important to develop individualized care plans that evolve over time,” he notes of his approach to his psychiatry services. Dr. Andrejicka treats patients utilizing various forms of psychotherapy, medications, psychosocial interventions and other treatments (such as electroconvulsive therapy or ECT). Prior to establishing his medical career, Dr. Andrejicka earned an MD at the University of Western Ontario in 1977, with the initial plan to enter the field of research biochemistry. Following his internship in cardiovascular surgery, he took a role as a psychiatry resident, which introduced him to the area of practice for which he is now nationally regarded. For more than two decades, Dr. Andrejicka has been a private practitioner, achieving distinction by the Ontario Medical Association, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Andrejicka is a naturally creative person who finds peace and purpose in art. A painter, sculptor and museum enthusiast, he achieved a Master of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts through Bathspa University in the U.K., and returned to Canada to take courses in art gallery and museum management. Initially thought of as a passion project, art has become Dr. Andrejicka’s second calling in life. He recently earned a diploma in arts management with distinction through the University of Western Ontario and completed a short-term contract job as partnership assistant at Museum London in London, Ontario, Canada. “We are amorphous beings that assign realities to those we see,” Dr. Andrejicka says of his creative passion, adding that he hopes to become a museum director in the years to come.
