Lehrstuhl für Anorganische Chemie I – Bioanorganische Chemie Lecture "Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry" SS 2019 Monday, 16–18 h, NC 3/99, 5 CP, start: 08.04.2019 Scope: This lecture will present and discuss an overview of Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry. Topics of the lecture will be aspects of metal ions and their compounds for health and disease. We will cover questions like metal ion uptake, storage, and regulation in different species, particularly humans and bacteria (and how this can be exploited for drugs); how metal ion imbalance leads to diseases (and how these can be cured); and introduce metal-based therapeutics as anti-cancer and antimicrobial agents. Format: All topics will be presented by the lecturers. More in-depth coverage of selected aspects will be through contributions from participants as follows: Original papers will be assigned to participants who will present the methods and main finding of the original work in a brief presentation. All course material and internal electronic discussions will be accessible in Moodle. Grading: A written exam will be held at the end of the course. The student presentations will also contribute to the overall grading of the course. Participation: Master students of Chemistry and Biochemistry are welcome to the course. Students from other subjects and Bachelor students may be admitted as well, but should see the lecturers at the first lecture in April to clarify details and conditions.
