Opera for Hospitals ,
In June a grand opera week was held in Birmingham onbehalf of the city hospitals. The result was a net profit of£9882, of which about one-tenth was derived from theperformances, the bulk of the money being given as
donations.
New Hospital at CromerThe Dowager Lady Suffield last week opened the new
Cromer and District Hospital, which has been built at a costof B20,000 to replace the old cottage hospital. The buildingis only £200 in debt. There are men’s and women’s wardseach containing 12 beds, two single-bed wards, and achildren’s ward for six or more beds.
Memorial to a Medical ManTwo beds have been endowed at the Cardiff Royal Infir-
mary in memory of the late Dr’ Thomas Wade Richards andhis wife, under the will of the late Miss Sarah Lewis,Mrs. Richards’s sister.
Metropolitan Hospital Sunday FundIt is officially stated that the collections for this fund on
June 26th amounted to about oE57,000, including £4000from Sir Heath Harrison and £800 from " X. Y. D." Thelargest church collection, £470, was at St. Columbia’s, Pont-street.

Congress on the Care of ChildrenThe seventh Congrès International de Protection de
l’Enfance will be held in Paris from July 5th-9th next year.The main subjects of discussion will be the Medical Super-vision of Sports and the relation between Charity and theState. The five sections of the congress will be devoted tomaternity, early childhood, late childhood, abnormalchildhood, and social service. Post-graduate Courses in BerlinFrom Oct. 10th onwards a number of international post-
graduate courses will be held in Berlin on general andspecial subjects. The latter include tuberculosis (Oct. 10th-15th), urology (Sept. 26th-Oct. 1st), medical psychologyand psychotherapy (Oct. 17th-22nd), and intrathoracicsurgery (Oct. 17th-21st). Fellowship of Medicine and Post-Graduate MedicalAssociationDr. G. F. Stebbing will give a demonstration of selected
cases of general interest at the Lambeth Hospital, Brook-street, S.E., at 2.0 P.M., on Friday, August 5th. Applica-tion for attendance at this demonstration should be madeto the Fellowship by August 3rd. During August theonly special course will be in urology, at the All SaintsHospital, Austral-street, West-square (the new hospitalbuildings). It occupies afternoons and evenings, andconsists of clinical demonstrations.
