Reshma (Reporter/Translator for Sanathana Sarathi) – by email Date : 13th April 2006 Subject : Medical Camp by SSG Korwil I (North Sumatra) - REVISED MEDICAL CAMP (conducted on 19th March 2006): Central Council Indonesia (North-Sumatra) recently conducted a medical camp at Tanjung Rejo village to help ease the villagers’ difficulty in obtaining medical aid. The village is located at Percut Sei Tuan district, Deli Serdang region, North Sumatra and is approximately 20 kilometers or one-and-a-half hours from Medan city. Bearing in mind their economic constraints and the remoteness of the village from the nearest health clinic, this camp was heartily welcomed and much appreciated by the villagers. The medical team comprised of 4 doctors, 8 pharmacists and 30 volunteers. Also assisting were 7 social workers from the locality, totaling up to 49 people. Together they served 164 villagers. Many of the residents, majority of whom are fishermen, complained of rheumatism, skin ailments due to lack of hygiene and several also suffered from Diabetes. Along with medical aid, the sevadals also distributed food provisions (5kg rice, 5 packets noodles, 1 bar of soap and 1 set of clothing) to 477 families in the village. This came as a treat for them since their living is on bare necessities. Their average income is about Rp. 10.000 – Rp. 20.000 (equivalent to U$ 1.1 – U$ 2.22) per day or Rp.300.000 – Rp.600.000 (equivalent to U$ 33.3 – U$ 66.6) per month. The villagers were grateful to the Sri Sathya Sai Central Council for the medical camp and look forward to the continuity of such acts of compassion in the near future.

The first seminar was conducted on 24th March 2005. As much as 85 teachers participated in the event, they were coached by two specially trained EHV teachers. Upon that, the EHV team observed closely for 6 days the implementation of the training materials in each class. The other EHV seminar was held on 21st August 2005, when Dr. Victor Kanu – who is well-known as one of the ardent devotee of Bhagawan Baba, also an expert in Sathya Sai Educare, visited and gave an inspiring talk in the same school to more than 215 school teachers, students & devotees. The theme of the talk entitled: “Human Values in The School Curriculum – a Synopsis”. The seminar earned a great appreciation from the participants who expressed their thankfulness towards Sai Study Group – Central Council Indonesia for making it possible to hear public talks from respected leaders in Sai Organization.

Aum Sairam, The month of April 2007 began very well for the SSG of Jakarta. We organized a medical camp in a very troubled area in Cakung. This is our fourth medical camp in the vicinity during the past 2 months. Over 1500 families live in this area(village) which is several Km's in size. Our medical camps are focused on smaller parts of the village. Reason being, this way we can better focus our attention and slowly but steadily improve the over all hygiene and well being. In this medical camp, we were able to treat close to 200 patients. Cases from skin disease to chronic cough and infection resulted merely due to the unawareness and unavailability of proper medical care. To illustrate this better, we met with a 1 year old girl, whose entire toe had been infected due to a small cut she attained some time back. Terms like disinfectant and bandages are obviously not understood by people with such poor education. Worst part is even if it they did understand, their priority remains feeding the child and since there never is any money left over they simply can't afford to purchase medication. This is why we have gone in to this area week after week with medical assistance. With Swami's grace, we will keep going in week after week. Here are some pictures of the Seva:
