Batman the dark knight teaser trailer begins with the screen saying it is appropriate for all audiences and then goes to film major which is Warner bros who are very successful and have put out many good films. The trailer contains dialogue from the film in a conversation between Christian Bale and Michael Caine’s characters. They talk about the joker, saying ‘some men aren’t looking for money’ and ‘can’t be reasoned with’ this is creating more tension about the film and without revealing any of the characters it builds up a lot of excitement about the film. The trailer shows no scenes of the film but instead has the Batman logo slowly crumbling with music in the background which becomes progressively louder as the trailer continues. This creates a build up of tension for the film. The effect of crumbling could also be foreshadowing the Batman as he could be crumbling under the pressure of having to protect the city.

The Dark Knight full theatrical trailer

The main trailer begins the same way as the teaser trailer with the screen showing it is appropriate for all ages. After this the trailer then cuts into a wide shot panning over a building where Batman in standing at the top. This shot then fades into a birds eyes panning across the city. This reveals the main setting of the film. The use of panning and fades gives the trailer a slow start. Throughout the trailer non digetic music is being played. The music is slow with a loud drum beat which is accompanied by an orchestra of soft cellos, as the trailer increases some computer man sounds are used and the tempo becomes much faster as the trailer goes on. At some points the music stops when the main characters have dialogue but it then begins again as the scenes become much shorter and use cuts in order to build more suspense about the film. There are other non digetic sounds used during scene cuts to add effect; these use mostly ‘woosh’ sounds which add effect by making the changes between scenes much cleaner. The Joker then begins to narrate over the film. Like in the teaser trailer the non digetic music begins to speed up but then stops when the scene which the joker was narrating over comes onto the screen this is also the first scene in the movie where the joker is revealed and his entrance shows a lot about his character. This scene uses continuity editing and as son as it finishes the music begins to play again. After this the pace of the trailer begins to increase. There are scenes with dialogue from the main characters and music plays throughout the trailer. This differs from the teaser trailer which only had a conversation between two of the main characters. After the first minute and forty seconds the pace of the film begins to increase. There is still some dialogue between the main character and the main villain but the scenes become very short and include a lot of action. This is very different to the teaser trailer which contained no action or scenes which were in the trailer in order to build hype about the film and build tension without revealing any important parts of the film.  The location of the trailer is shown in the beginning of the film. There is a large city full of many high rising building one of which Batman is on the top of. Most of the scenes are taken at night in the trailer which makes the city look very gloomy and rough. This also gives the impression that the film is going to be dark and sets the tone of the film. The gunfire and quick shots are conventional of the action genre so this also shows the audience there will be action in the film. The first scene shows the batmobile crashing through a wall. This straight away shows the high budget of the film and the genre so it will immediate appeal to audiences who enjoy action films. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXeTwQWrcwY

The Wolf Of Wall Street teaser trailer

The teaser trailer is very different to the full trailer in many ways. The teaser first creates awareness of the film coming out by using the Batman logo and having dialogue from the film. The main trailer uses a lot of action to sell the film as an action film and also has a lot of dialogue and many scenes from the movie. The teaser trailer is mostly to raise awareness about the film while the main trailer was made to promote the film, its actors and producers.  The Wolf of Wall Street teaser trailer contains one short 20 second scene from the film. The trailer contains a scene where the main character is having lunch with his boss. The scene uses continuity editing of shots between the characters. There is a mix of mid shots and wide shots there is little dialogue which sets it apart from most other films teaser trailers and there is also no non digetic sound in the scene. The whole trailer is 20 seconds long and then at the end of the scene the title comes up in large letters on a yellow background. It then says the words ‘coming soon’ instead of giving a title of the film. In the scene the boss of the main character is humming while beating his chest and encouraging the main character to join in. The main character looks confused which adds the comic effect however he soon joins in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkdYbErCDqY

The Wolf Of Wall Street full theatrical trailer

The full trailer contains the teaser trailer in the last 23 seconds. The full trailer begins with screen saying the film is appropriate for all audiences and then unlike the full Batman trailer there are lots of very shorts cut scenes which show the setting of the film these films are also in time with the drum beat of the music playing in the background this differs to the teaser trailer which contained no non digetic sound. The music is more upbeat then the batman trailers music which lets the audience know that the film is not to be taken completely seriously. The first few seconds of the trailer the main character introduces himself and talks about how much money he made in a year. This gives the audience an understanding of what the main character is like which differs from the teaser trailer as it didn’t give any information away about the main characters. The scenes then become a montage of the main character in different scenes towards the end of the trailer like in the Batman full trailer the scenes become fast with little dialogue and the non digetic sound becomes louder and there is more action in the scenes.  The location of the film is revealed in the beginning of the trailer. It begins with a bird’s eyes view of the city of New York and then there is a shot of the tower the main character is working in as well as a short scene showing the name of the road ‘Wall street’. This shows the people who are watching film that it mostly involves money.  Comedy is a theme made clear in the trailer as it contains short comic scenes of dwarfs being thrown and parties where a main character is seen eating a fish. However as well as being comic it also has some serious scenes showing there are other themes of drama involved in the movie. There are scenes which involves the FBI which suggests there is more of a story to the film but not much of this is revealed so the audience do not know everything about the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iszwuX1AK6A
