role of media in society;
• be able to analyse media texts and
contexts using a variety of theoretical
frameworks;
• be able to undertake independent
research in media studies.
What transferable skills will I develop?
You will…• be able to think and write analytically;• be able to write with clarity, and to
argue from evidence;• use online and other research tools
with confidence;• learn and study independently, work
effectively with others, and reflect on your own work.
Media theory and media practice
The course is:• media theory oriented;• about 1/6 of the assignments are
‘practical’ or creative in nature;• you don’t need any existing creative or
practical media skills;• practical elements include
photography, screenwriting and creative media writing.
