Run Swim or Spin for children with disabilities
11 February 2016
The Eltham Leisure Centre YMCA is running its annual fundraising event, the Eltham FUN Run Swim
Spin, Sunday 28 February 2016 to help support children and young people with disabilities to access
our health and wellbeing services.
Run entirely by volunteers (close to 200), all proceeds raised go directly towards the Open Doors
Program at the YMCA, assisting these children to become healthier, happier and more connected to
their community.
Kathyrn Bergstrum, a long time recipient of the Open Doors Program, said the program has not only
helped her remain physically active, but is extremely important in supporting and managing some of
her Cerebral Palsy symptoms.
“Cerebral Palsy limits my mobility and effects my ability to walk,” she said. “However, the Open
Doors Program gives me the challenge and opportunity to improve my general wellbeing, physical
fitness and walking skills through personal training”.
In 2015, The Open Doors Program assisted more than 300 disadvantaged people in our local
community.
Ms Bergstrum said without the support of the Open Doors Program this opportunity would not have
been possible.
“The cost of one on one support with fantastic trainers would have been too expensive to fund on
my own”.
This February support people like Kathryn simply by registering for the Eltham Fun Run Swim Spin
today.
Participants can choose to participate in one event or all three. Register online today for the Fun
Run/ Walk , Spinathon and Swimathon on our website www.eltham.ymca.com.au.
Get healthy, have fun and help us reach our goal to raise $20,000 so we can continue to support
people like Kathryn and children with disabilities in our community.
