Magazine Analysis

Page 2: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Front cover analysis: Smash HitsMain imageThe main image is a medium shot of Avril Lavigne, which the main sell line is about. In this picture Avril looks less ‘Punkish’ than she usually does, the magazine has made her look more appropriate and more like a role model for the T.A. The magazine has made her look young, innocent and fresh with a nice smile, this may represent the target audience as they will be young girls buying the magazine. MastheadThe mast head is in bold writing with a black outline which lifts it from the background colours of the page. The writing is slanted which gives it a more upbeat look with the exclamation mark at the end makes it also feel exciting. The colours used a bright and fresh, the ‘smash hits’ maintains its usual font as a signature of recognition. Sell line“Avril Lavigne on bad lads, glamming up celeb crushes” this sell line gives the innocent magazine a more grown up feel talking about ‘bad lads’. The magazine also uses the language the reader would use, such as ‘Crushes’ this helps the magazine connect with the reader and make the reader feel that the magazine is on the same level as the reader.

Pug- Having McFly in bigger bold letters and also changing the colour makes it stand out, this will appeal to many girls who are big McFly fans. Using ‘official’ makes it feel like it is the real thing.

Colour SchemeThe colour scheme is bright

vibrant, girly colours such as; pinks, light blues, yellow and

white.Pink- Is the main colour used in

the magazine, it gives it a girly feel to the magazine, also using

light pinks is more fun and youthful which represents the

read and also the kind of music that the magazine has inside.Light Blue- contrasts with the light pink used. The light blue

used may represent happiness and optimism, it could also

represent young boys, which the reader (young girls) are

interested in.Yellow- Gives a bright, radiant, upbeat feel to the magazine, its

used in outbursts around the magazine to keep it looking

bright but at the same time to help grab attention.

White- symbolises the youthfulness in the magazine,

also fresh and pure like the reader and the music they are

talking about.

Price- the price of the magazine is £2.00 which is a reasonable price as young people will be able to afford to buy it

37 OC secrets revealed- Using words such as ‘secrets’ make it feel like the reader is

finding out something exclusive that only they

would know about.

Page 3: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Main imageThe main image is of the singer ‘Beth Ditto’ , as the main sell line is about the interview she took with the magazine. The image is very controversial as she is doing a nude shoot on the front cover and Beth Ditto is not a stereotypical model. Special affects have been used to make the lips on her bum look more red and juicy, maybe to match the colour scheme off the magazine.

Front Cover Analysis: NME

MastheadThe writing is bold and red which matches the colour scheme of red and yellow. The writing has a black background to help it stand out against the yellow background. The masthead is used to maintain brand identity as it is like a logo, needs to be easy to remember, so it is short like a logo.

Sell lineBeth Ditto“The queen of cool talks tabloid exposure, size zero and staying punk forever” The Beth Ditto stands out as it is in red and stands out as the writing is in two different fonts, maybe to make it look informal and a bit wild to represent Beth, also give it more character. The smaller writing highlights the what the article is about. The use ‘Exposure maybe to indicate something is about to be revealed in the article.

Pug – ‘Free’ stands out the most, it will be one of the first things the buyer will see, they will then think that they are benefitting from buying the article as they will be receiving something free.

Colour SchemeThe colour scheme is; Red,

yellow and black.Red- Is trying to give a ‘sexy’

feel to the magazine, by using Beth in the nude and

also using red writing gives a more sexy feel, as red is a

romantic, passionate colour. The red used is also bright

which helps the main writing stand out.

Yellow – Is used in the background, using red and

yellow together may indicate ‘heat’, as if the magazine is hot with music and stories. Black – contrasts with the

yellow and red, keeping the usual colour of the magazine, also the hardcore rock side of

the magazine, as the magazine is a rock

magazine. “Kiss my ass” has been written around Beth's

backside, which gives the impression of doing it literally,

this gives the magazine a naughty feel, as the writing

looks quite bold and naughty also.

Using “+Plus+” makes it stand out that the reader is getting

extras by buying this magazine, having the list shows how many

extras the buyer will receive.

Barcode – Needs to be on the magazine, is very important, it also includes the magazines official website

Page 4: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Content Analysis: QMain ImageThe main image is of a single man posed with his legs apart, this image is quite open and upfront, he is looking up and shouting into a which may be an indication of trying to grab the audiences attention. The pose he is using with his legs spread apart is putting his masculinity on show as this is predominantly a male gesture. He has his feet firmly on the ground showing no intention of leaving. The pose also shows off his masculinity as he wears a tight tank top showing of his built body. The image is also quite minimalistic and simple with just a man and using a plain background to keep focus on the main image.TitleThe title is situated at the top of the page, as this is the first thing the reader needs to notice. The font used is once again is quite plain and simple, this may have been used to represent the minimalistic look the magazine is going for. Even though the writing used is not bold and is rather plain the magazine has still managed to get it to stand out by using a red background, this is the bold part of the title which helps the title stand out against the rest of the page.

FeaturesThe features title is cut out from

the rest of the page to help it stand out and also matches

with the colour scheme of the magazine. Beneath the title is a picture which also matches with

the colours of the page as effects have been used to give

a red tint to the picture. The features include one main story

which stands out against the other features as they have

used different bigger font and contrasting colours to the rest

of the writing. Colour scheme

Red- Red may be used to grab attention as it is a sharp colour,

it may also indicate rage and anger as this magazine is showing through the main

image, grabbing attention by ‘shouting’ through a

Microphone.White- Simplicity and pure,

represents the look the magazine is going for, simple

and modern. This may also tell the audience that the magazine is simple and purely into music,

nothing else.Black- keeping originality and

sophistication to the magazine, black also might represent the

hardcore rock music that the magazine is about.

External advertisementThe contents includes about other stories in the magazine. These stories may mainly be based around pop gossip or real life stories.

Numbers- big, clear, bold, simple numbers which stand out so the reader are able to see the reference to the location of the articles. They may use numbers or names; such as “42 Green Day”.

Page 5: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Content Analysis: NMEMain Image- The main image is not a professional photo taken by a photographer, but it looks like a photo which anyone could take on a camera on holiday, I think the magazine done this purposely as the picture goes with the main story about ‘hanging out’ meaning that it isn’t like a usual professional story. It also looks relaxing as the singers are in a ordinary surroundings, in a relaxing pose leaning/slouching on what seems to be a sweet shop counter, this makes the picture feel more relaxed when the people are posing in a relaxed manor. Title- The title is placed at the top of the page to grab attention saying “NME contents” which is written like one word, showing ownership of the contents and also keeping brand identity by keeping ‘NME’ visible. The writing is white and against a black background, this gives the feeling of it being inside out, this effect may have been used to help the title stand out against the page. The title also includes the date as the magazine may be a weekly issue.

Colour scheme- White- keep originality and

simplicity, it also allows the more important information to stand

out against the white background. It keeps your focus on the information which is there

to read and take note.Black – Also keeps the

magazine simple and the colours not too complicated. It

also shows sophistication.White- contrasts with black, also

keeps it straightforward and to the point and allows the readers

to focus mainly on the music.

Key featuresThe magazine includes a

detailed list of Features, News, Radar, Reviews and Live! This

is useful information to the reader and includes all main

stories, the latest news, information on the newest bands etc. This list gives a subheading for all the information it includes,

compared to other magazines this list is very thorough.

Advertisements

This contents page includes a advertisement, this isn't usually

seen on a contents page, but this doesn't seem to be the most conventional contents

page.

Main storyThe contents has a summary about one of the main stories in the magazine.

Page 6: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Double page Spread Analysis

ImageAs this magazine is targeted for the younger generation they would have the double page spread as prominently image because it would entice the buyer to read more. The images are of two famous singers which are also Many young girls role models, and also star in the X factor. the images of Danni and Cheryl are very airbrushed, they look to have perfect skin, hair and a ‘Hollywood smile’. In this magazine they would have to look presentable and wear clothes that would appeal to the target audience, such as young fashionable girly clothes.

Colour schemeThe colours used relate to the target audience, because they are quite

‘girly’ colours such as pinks and purples, they also combine the two colours witch make them stand out more. The colours are bright and

vibrant to grab the readers attention, bright colours also make the magazine look more fun

And bubbly, this may also be used to reflect the type of the reader who buys the magazine. The colours also match what Danni is wearing this may have something to do with the main Storyline, and indicate she is the main focus of the article.

LayoutThe layout is

predominantly image, this is because the magazine

is aimed at young people, and lots of writing would not appeal to them. The

layout needs to be simple and easily read with not

too many distractions, butenough pictures to appeal to the reader and want them to

read the article. The writing is very minimal but there are

many sub headings which lure the reader is such as ‘After last

years bitching and back-stabbing’’.

Main StoryThe main story is obviously about the X factor rivals, Danni and Cheryl , theymake the story seem like Danni and Cheryl are talking to the reader by using quotes which seem to be directed at the audience, such as “Simon is actually a really decent guy” this makes the reader feel like they are speaking on a one to one basis as they where friends.

text: Lots of quotes are used in this article because some

readers who the target audience is aimed at may not be interested in reading a whole article so they have divided it

up into sections and used lots of quotes. Words such as ‘musical wannabes’ are used so the target audience can relate to this language because this might be the type of

language they use in day to day life, this makes the reader feel like the magazine is on the same level as them.

Page 7: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Double Page Spread analysis 2ImageThe images chosen in this double page spread are very minimalistic. By using various black and white images gives a ‘classy’ feel to the magazine . The outfit Solange is wearing is also very classy and quite formal, as the target audience upmarket person. The colours Solange is wearing is very ‘Sexy’ and ‘Sophisticated’ this may reflect the buyer , and what the buyer of the magazine might be interested in wearing, this could also be used as a type of advertisement as readers may go out and buy what Solange is wearing.

Colour SchemeThe colours used in this

article are light fresh, minimalistic colours, white

is the most predominant colour, this gives the

sense of simplicity, precision and youth,

which may reflect the type of music the magazine is

trying to sells, It also makes the magazine feel more sophisticated. With

in the article there are vibrant splashes of blue,

this may have been done to divide up the writing

and give a sense of youth and freedom in the

magazine. The red is the main colour the stands out

the most, as it needs to appeal to the audience

and lure the reader in, it gives a ‘Sexy’ feel to the

article, as the colour red is a dominant colour this may reflect dominant

powerful women which the article is about.

LayoutThe layout is around equally as much writing as there is a picture. Thearticle is quite detailed which shows that the reader is mainly interested in music. The main image is used to divide the page so it doesn't look bland a lifeless with purely just writing, by using the image it gives the article a splash of colour and brings the story to life with a ‘life sized’ picture of Solange.

Main StoryThe main story is about a R&B singer who is new on the music scene,

this may also be about competition as Solange Knowles may be in rivalry with her sister who is a well known artist, Beyonce Knowles. By using words such as ‘Outspoken’ this may entice the buyer to read the

article because it seems like Solange has a lot to say and reveal.

Page 8: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Representation

The representation of rock is usually associated

with bad behaviour and rebellion with anything rock

artists disagree with, they use their ‘wild’ behaviour

to become outspoken and get their message

across. People may see Rock artists behaviour as

dramatic and pointless, but these artists have

strong views on political values and most of their

protests are done for a good cause and the music

they right has actual meaning about something

they are dedicated of believe in.

Rock music is usually associated with

eccentric behaviour and drug taking,

many famous rock artists have admitted

to taking drugs such as, Ozzy Osbourne

and Kurt Cobain, being two of the most

famous rock artists. Society may view rock

music as a bad influence because of the

association with drugs and rock music, but

it is just because rock artists are more

upfront about what they have done, and

who they are, unlike some other

musicians who would not like to openly

admit if they have taken drugs because

they feel it would affect their publicity.

People may see rock music as music which talks

about the issues in society, rock artists try to bring

global situations to light by using their music to make

people more aware of what is going on in the world,

for example Live 8 Aid which was put together by a

famous rock musician Bob Geldoff, this helped not

only raise awareness of poverty but also helped raise

money for third world countries.

Page 9: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Codes and ConventionsRock MagazineMain Image

The main image of a Rock magazine would not be conventional to ‘usual’ magazines such as pop, the type of people who are used on the front covers of rock magazines are not the most photogenic, but instead more controversial and would go against the codes and conventions by putting not the typical role model but the opposite, such singers as Pete Doherty, who is notorious for taking drugs. Rock magazines do not make their main image look ‘Pretty’ like pop magazines and have a typical pose such as smiling they would use a pose that would make the artist look, serious and unapproachable.

MastheadThe masthead is a rock magazine is usually bold and situated at the top of the page, it is usually keep the same on each magazine to keep brand identity and allows the buyer to immediately notice the magazine they are buying, it also stands out the most when looking at the magazine, on NME the masthead stands out the most as it is in the top left hand corner, but other magazines such as Kerrang! Make their image the main attraction of the magazine. Keeping the masthead the same allows such magazines such as ‘Kerrang!’ to place the main image over the masthead and still be able to keep brand identity.

ColoursThe colours used in rock magazines are not usually gender specific, like such magazines as pop they would not use colours such as pinks and blues to highlight different genders. The usual colours they use would be dark, bold, sharp colours such as white and black, which are opposites but also help attract attention when they are placed together and help single out specific parts of the magazine. Rock magazines usually keep the similar colours with in their magazine to help keep brand identity, for example NME usually has red on their front covers as their mast head is usually red which gives some colour co-ordination.

Sell lineThe sell line would have to relate to the contents on the

magazine and also the target audience. The sell lines would have to stand out against the front cover, usually

the main sell line is big and bold, with a little bit of writing or a quote to summarise the story. The sell lines

would also have to relate to the target audience because they are needed to grab the readers attention,

for example a pop magazine targeted for younger people might have a sell line about Cheryl Cole

because she would be a role model for the readers and they would be interested in reading about her.

LanguageThe language used in the sell line would also have to

relate to the target audience, such words as ‘Cool’ would be used in a pop magazine but maybe not a rock

magazine. More sophisticated words maybe used in a classic magazine because this type of music is usually

listened by the older generation. While in a rock magazine they would use abrupt words which are

straight to the point and may not always be the most enticing words.

Article

The main articles usually relate to the front cover, the front cover is used to ‘sell’ the main story with in the magazine. The main article is usually about a role model who appeals to the target audience

and they would want to read about, in a rock magazine the main article may be controversial as

rock magazines are seen to break the rules of conventions of a usual music magazine as they do

not write about the typical things you would be reading about.

Page 10: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Information

Music magazines can also give advise on practical matters which relate can to the reader such as giving

information on when an even is actually happening, or when the latest album is being released, this would

help the audiences knowledge about knowing key events with in the music industry. The reader may also

use the magazine to find out information on opinions from other music fans and readers of the same

magazine, getting opinions from people who share the same interest is useful as it would be likely they

would have the same opinion as you, this is called reviews. Reviews could be on events, places to go,

other types of musical magazines, or places to get musical information and how useful it was, this would

also play a role in the decisions and choices made by the reader as the reviews may effect what the reader

chooses to do. Other types of would be taken from the main stories, and opinions given from a role model

which readers aspire to be like, so they would value this particular persons opinion highly.

By reading a Rock magazine, it enables the audience to find out information specifically on music. They

can find out information such as; upcoming new artists, events such as musical festivals and concerts, new

albums and singles, and various signings. This type of information is about what is happening with in the

music industry, and giving information about upcoming events.

Readers may also use a music magazine would be to learn and expand self education. The readers use the magazine to read for their own personal satisfaction but also while doing this they

are able to use the information with in the magazine to self educate on topics that they are truly interested in, they are able to find such information for stories, maybe taken from celebrities and

singers or ‘real life’ stories, this information may relate to actual life, or they could find other information from various articles.

The audience also gain a sense of security through reading and gaining

knowledge from the magazine, the reader feels more secure because they know

what is going on in the media which also relates to socialising with friends and

family and keeping up with the latest news and gossip which can be found from

magazines and news in the media.

Page 11: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Personal IdentityMagazines relate to every different individual and their needs, also there are many different reasons why people buy and read music magazines, not just for information and gossip, but for personal reasons.

Reading a magazine will help people find reinforcement

for personal values. The media show people such a roles

models which the buyer will be influenced by, they will see

how a celebrity dresses and would desire to dress like

them, this could also be used as advertisement because

magazine editors will know that buyers are interested In

what the celebrity is doing/wearing. The buyer will also

see different values and beliefs with in the media and this may encourage or change the way they act.

Celebrities in the media can be highly influential to

buyers. People who buy magazines usually are

enticed by the main image or storyline which would be

someone who they are inspired by as they want to

read about them. These people will be influenced by

the behaviour seen by the celebrity/artist as they

would want to act how there role model does. Rock

magazines base themselves on eccentric behaviour

and going against the conventions, people who read

these magazines may be the type of people who also

do this because they mimic the behaviour which is

shown by a role model.

By reading magazines people spend more time on personal time and themselves, this will enable them to realise what kind of person they are and what they are interested in and interested in reading about, this helps gaining an insight into themselves because they understand more about themselves as they are spending more quality time with themselves.

Page 12: Media -magazine_coursework updated

EntertainmentPeople read magazines for entertainment purposes mainly, but there are other reasons why people read music

magazines. Some people read magazines to escape reality, to relax, get intrinsic cultural or aesthetic enjoyment, to fulfil time, have an emotional release or sexual arousal. These are many reasons why people use

the media, I will be exploring more into these different types of reasons why people use the media and read magazines.

The first reason why people use the media and read magazines may be a

use for escaping reality . The reader may buy magazines because while

reading different issues which are brought to attention in magazines it will

allow them to be diverted from real life issues which involve themselves.

Reading about other peoples problems and downfalls diverts the reader

from their own problems because they are more interested in reading

about someone else’s life.

Reading magazines may also be a use of relaxation. Readers feel more relaxed when reading magazines as not everyone has the

opportunities to take time out for a proper relaxation session, so by reading a magazine is taking 5 or 10 minutes out of reality and

enjoying time to unwind and have time for themselves.

People also use magazines to fulfil time, many

people find a way of reading magazines to

pass time, most people read magazine while

travelling to work on the train or bus to pass

time, but also benefit from using spare time by

finding information and gossip out. Relating to reading magazines to relax, it can also be useful for emotional release because reading a magazine will help us understand what is going on

in society which helps us in socialisation as we would no longer feel left out as they are able to

relate to conversations.

Another reason people may read magazines is for sexual arousal, most people see celebrities or people in the media as attractive by reading magazines people may find arousal by looking at more beautiful people.

Page 13: Media -magazine_coursework updated

ProposalThe type of magazine I am going to create is a rock music magazine. The reason I have chosen to create a rock

magazine is because I find the controversy appealing, and that they don’t always go by the codes and conventions, they go against the ‘rules’ purposely to stand out and look different against the typical magazine such as a pop

magazine. I also like the fact that they make their magazine seem unusual by not always having the most stereotypical role model or having the most appropriate articles. I am also interested in finding more out about Rock music and Rock

magazines as a whole because this is not the type of music I usually listen to or know a lot about, and I find their controversy very interesting.Elements

The parts of the magazine I am going to include is the cover, contents and feature article. The cover will have to include the conventions of a typical rock magazine, such as Masthead, main image and sell lines, to help me with the cover I will take ideas from other rock magazines, such as Kerrang! And NME. The contents page will also represent a usual Rock magazine contents page which is usually quite full with information, this contrasts with typical R&B which is minimalistic. A feature article in a rock magazine usually has quite controversial stories and issues which are not normally spoke about in a typical music magazine as rock bands and artists usually bring up social and political issues.

Product researchFrom doing my product research I have identified the codes and conventions of various magazines to help me

achieve my ultimate magazine. I have found the most magazines keep to the codes and conventions to fit in with the other magazines, they would need to keep such conventions as a Bold masthead to keep brand identity, so the

audience are able to see what magazine they are buying straight away. Other codes and conventions include a main image which is located on the front cover, this is used to draw the readers attention in, usually used as a

advertisement for the magazine., the image is usually relating to the main article. A music magazine would also include a contents page which would summarise everything that is with in the magazine. Another main convention in

a magazine would be the main article, which is normally based around a celebrity, or in music magazine s a new artist.Target Audience

The target audience that will read my music magazine are both sex’s aged 16+, the reason I have chosen to have the age bracket as over 16 would be because the reader would be more mature and be interested not only in the musical side of the magazine, but the political and controversial issues which are brought to the readers attention by a famous role model.

The types of magazines the inspired me to do my magazine are such magazines as NME and Kerrang! I feel that these magazines are more appealing as they may be predominantly rock music, but they widen the

musical categories they talk about, and would include other types of singers such as R&B singer Kanye West. They also include controversial issues which some artists in other magazines would not talk about as

they would not want it to effect their image in the media, but rock artists live off their bad rock and roll persona.

Page 14: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Social interaction

Identifying with others, gaining a sense of belonging. People

read magazines so they can gain insight into circumstances,

such as happenings in the media which will help people in their

social aspects as the media is everywhere and relates to many

conversations and everyday life, so people will feel more

included when having a conversation about gossip in the media,

as it feels like they are in the ‘know’ and will understand daily

conversations and feel a sense of belonging by knowing what is

happening with in the media

Reading and finding ‘gossip’ with in the media helps social interaction as it can be a

foundation for starting a conversation, when people do not have much to talk about they

usually speak about happenings in the media as they find it more interesting to talk about

other peoples lives., this is used as a basis of a conversation as people can also relate

stories to themselves and real life issues..

Some magazines are used for a substitute for real life companionship, as some people feel that magazines relate to

them and feel like a friend. Magazines want to relate to people, and feel like they are on the same level as their reader, this can

be seen through language used; magazines which are aimed for the younger target audience may use language that a young

person may use such as ‘cool’. The reason people find a companionship in magazines is because they give not only

information/gossip but they also may give personal advice to the reader just like a friend would.

Reading magazines help gain an insight into circumstances, the reader will be able to understand what is going on in the media which will help their social interaction. It also helps gaining social empathy, this means people may read a magazine in order to be able to answer questions relating to happenings in the media, as you are putting yourself in someone else ‘s position so you can understand more about a person to be able to give a judgement.

Each point about reading the media relates to and helps social interaction, this helps a person

to connect with family, friends and society as they are able to relate to issues by using media, identify and gain a sense of belonging, and gain insight into circumstances. Each of these points help social interaction.

Page 15: Media -magazine_coursework updated

Institution

Magazines such as NME, ROCK, Rolling Stones

and Kerrang! Have inspired me to make my

magazine. I want my magazine to resemble what

these magazines do as they not only talk about

rock music they speak about controversial and

political issues brought up by famous artists who

have strong beliefs in global situations.

IPC is popular publisher for many magazines which include NME, I have decided to choose a different publisher for my magazine as IPC is already publishing a magazine which is similar to the one that I will be making. Instead I would like use Conde Nast as they do not already have a Rock magazine , this would also create rivalry between the two publishing companies.

I have decided from two magazine publishers, originally I would have liked

my magazine to be published by IPC as it

seems as it is more well known and publishes more magazines, which shows

that they are a popular company and do

well in the business market. The only downside to IPC is that they mainly appeal to women publishing magazines

which read two thirds of women, and my

magazine would probably be read mainly

by males. IPC also target mainly adults and the T.A of my magazine, is young Adults/students.

I decided to choose Conde Nast

publishers as they are also a

popular magazine, and they do

not already have a music

magazine, most of their

magazines are aimed for women

but this may also benefit my

magazine as it will be the first

music magazine and is not only

aimed for women.

Color connotations

BlackI have chosen the colour black as I am doing a rock magazine and it is a sharp, strong colour which stands out against other brighter colours. The colour black also indicates a more serious look, which shows that the magazine and the buyers take their passion of music seriously.

WhiteBy using the colour white is will show the

magazine is formal and professional. It

also gives a simplistic feel to the magazine

and doesn't over crowd the magazine with

too many bright colours. Using white not

only makes the magazine look more simple

and pure, but it also shows the audience

that the magazine is purely about music.Red

Red gives a sense of passion towards the

music as it is a strong colour and is brighter

than the other two colours. It Is also a

sharp colour which will grad the

audience’s attention. It may also indicate

sexuality as I am going to use a women

artist who would give a sexy passionate

feel to the magazine.

Article PlanTaming Tamara, the rebellious rock chick

Headline

I have chosen this headline because, it is catchy and it alliterates, so it will be easily read and eye catching. The headline also relates to the article about Tamara being a wild rock chick, but when people read the article they eventually see another side to Tamara, which indicates the magazine have ‘tamed’ her from what type of person she is illustrated like in the media. The second part of the headline ‘Rebellious rock chick’ also alliterates, this shows the image she is usually portrayed like in the media a rebellious rock chick, but as people read on they will find out that she is more than a rebellious rocker, and has a real passion for music.

Subheading“She’s one of the most rebellious rock chicks, but has Core finally be able overcome her frightful exterior and lady her

up? Tamara and gets down and dirty about her past and why her music career changed her for the better and what she is

looking forward to this Christmas.”This is a little introduction to my article, it gives an overview of what the readers will find out about when reading the article, it also helps pull the reader in because if they find the subheading interesting they will want to read more into the article. The subheading relates to my article, shows a little of what we will be discussing in the interview, but also leaves the reader wanting to find out more. I have used rhetorical questions to make the

reader seem like they want to know the answer to the questions.

Pull Quotes

“obviously I care what my fans think, but I couldn’t give a damn

what stupid critics think, who aren’t even interested in the type

of rock I sing.”

“I was a tear-away child”

“ experienced a tough time, I do believe music

did help me overcome my drug addiction”

This pull quote shows a little of Tamara the rebellious rock chick and, the hard core ‘uncaring’ rock side to her which is usually highlighted in the media. Using the word ‘damn’ shows she is a outspoken artist, who doesn’t conform to what people expect of her and she does her own thing.

This gives the reader a little insight to Tamara and her past, they would find this interesting because they would learn more about her background and how she has become well known in the rock industry. It also shows she isn't perfect, and is like everyone else, she has had her own struggles in life and her passion for music helped her overcome them.

This also gives another insight to her background indicating she hasn’t had the perfect upbringing and this may be why she has such a hardcore exterior.

Props & CostumesProps

I used a verity of props to add effect to the photo shoot, the props helped link the picture to the magazine which is a musical magazine. I used props such as, Electronic guitar to show a hard core rock side to the magazine as this instrument is very well known in the rock industry. It will indicate that Tamara is a rock artist and also plays musical instruments as well as sings. It also shows what type of music she play which is rock.micro phone indicate that Tamara is a singer and not only plays an instrument, it also shows that she is passionate about music, as I have included picture of her singing into the micro phone, it also relates back to the music magazine.headphones which relate to the musical side to the article, it also shows that Tamara has a passion for music and is also highly influenced by music and other musicians. This shows that she is also very into music and loves to listen to music constantly.sun glasses to make Tamara look more like a rock star, give her more attitude for being in the media and having a celebrity life style, it also makes her look more rebellious as she hides her eyes from the camera. Using the glasses also makes her look more like a high class celebrity.Christmas HatA Christmas hat was used because the magazine is a Christmas issue and I wanted the story to relate to the theme of the issue, it also relates to the interview also talks about Tamara’s Christmas and new year.ChairI used a chair to make Tamara look more rebellious as she sits on the chair with her legs open, this is not the typical way I woman would sit on a chair, this would also indicate that she is different and does what she wants.

Props & CostumesCostumes

I used different costumes to show a range of different clothes that Tamara would be likely to wear, it would also show a little side of her personality by seeing her wearing different types of clothes which she may be likely to wear.Red DressThe red dress links with the colours of the magazine which are going to be predominantly red and black, these colours are usually linked with rock. The red dress also indicates a more glamorous side to the rock chick, the could even be said to be ‘Glam Rock’. It also links with the Christmas issue as Christmas colours are usually red also.White dressThe white dress links with the article about Tamara, the white is used because the article is about the ‘New’ Tamara who is making a come back, the white shows she is new, fresh and clean, which could also link to her drug addiction, as now she is clean. White also refers back to her personality as people had a opinion of her as a being a ‘Devilish’ rock chick but in the article it shows she has grown up and matured a lot.Ripped tightsThe ripped tights give a more rebellious look as it shows that even though Tamara has matured a lot she also has the inner rock chick.Tutu I decided Tamara should wear a Tutu because it represents the old Tamara, who was fun and wild, it shows that she still has the type of person with in her even though she has supposedly matured.Doc Martin bootsThese boots where to show that even though Tamara is a rock star she still wears casual clothes which make her look more like a rock chick. The boots are also quite ‘scruffy’ looking which also represents Tamara as being a bit on the wild side.
