Media EvaluationQuestion 7

Question 7Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel

you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Comparing my preliminary task against my finished product, I can see that there are significant differences which highlight the amount I have progressed.

Question 7

From just looking at the two images it is clear to see that my finished product is much more complex than the college magazine cover and that my Photoshop skills were clearly a lot less developed than what they are now, this can be seen by the fact that the only tool I used in the preliminary task was the text tool and the rectangle tool for the boarder. I have not edited the image itself either, it is simply just imported with text arranged around it where as with my final image I have clearly used more techniques

Question 7

Another noticeable progression is that I have given more thought into the location of the shoot in my final magazine cover than in my preliminary task, as you can see the background is bright orange which does not look aesthetically pleasing at all as the colours just clash against one another where as for my final cover it is obvious I have put more thought into where the images are taken- as you can see I took the images in the studio which meant I could control the lights, background etc. making it look more professional

Question 7

One massive thing which distinguishes my two front covers is the lack of colour scheme in the first front cover compared to the distinct scheme in the final front cover. On the preliminary task the colours are all clashing and the white writing is extremely hard to see against the bright orange background, where as with the final product I have a distinct colour scheme.

Question 7

Finally the major difference in the two tasks was that I had done research for my final cover meaning I knew the conventions of other magazines and wants from the audience, this extra knowledge allowed me to create my magazine and make it as realistic as possible where as with the preliminary task in which no research was conducted, very little conventions were followed and did not appeal to the audience as much as the final cover e.g. there was no use of a plug to draw the audience in.
