Evaluation:Media Institutions

By Simran

A media institution is a company, either public or privately owned who produce and/ or distribute media products. I believe that there are a range of media institutions that would distribute our product, such as: ◦20 Century Fox◦Sky◦Columbia Pictures◦Youtube

20th Century Fox

20th Century Fox is an American film studio that was formed on May 31st, 1935 by William Fox. This media institution has distributed many films and TV programmes: ◦ X-Men◦ Die Hard◦ Alvin & The Chipmunks◦ Star Wars◦ Avatar◦ The Simpsons ◦ How I Met Your Mother I believe this will be a great company who would distribute our product as they are a large, well known organisation and have distributed action/ adventure films which is the genre for our opening scene.

Sky is also another institution that provides television, internet and telephone services to consumers in the UK. They distribute many films, TV programmes and music of all different genres to the public. Sky would distribute our product on their movie channels as they are a trusted company, and most of the films that get released in cinemas then get distributed by the Sky institution. Almost everyone is aware of the company and they have a good reputation around the UK.

Sky

Columbia Pictures is another American film studio who produced and distributed films such as: ◦ Spider Man◦ Smurfs◦ Ghostbusters◦ 21 Jump Street ◦ Bad BoysI consider that Columbia Pictures would distribute our product because they are one of the eight major film studio in the United States, therefore most people will recognise the company and audiences may be enticed into watching the film as the company has distributed many successful films.

Columbia Pictures

YouTube is an institution that was founded in February 2005 and it allows billions of people across the world to discover, watch and share originally created videos, trailers and even movies. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals who have a passion in creating videos, however there are some media corporations such as: CBS, Vevo and the BBC who present their material via YouTube as an advertising technique. This will be a great way to distribute our product, due to the fact that almost everyone uses YouTube and are familiar with it, and people become aware of movies via YouTube by seeing their trailers as advertisement before their actual video that they have searched for comes up.

By distributing our product on these media institutions our opening scene will become familiar with people around the world, it will become successful and will entice users into watching the full movie when it is releases in cinemas.
