Using This GuideThis guide contains the task-oriented instructions, conceptual information, and reference information you need to use the features of your Avid editing application. The contents of this guide is also available in the Help. This guide is intended for all users, from beginning to advanced. Unless noted otherwise, the material in this document applies to the Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. The majority of screen shots in this document were captured on a Windows system, but the information applies to both Windows and Mac OS X systems. A note provides important related information, reminders, recommendations, and strong suggestions. A caution means that a specific action you take could cause harm to your computer or cause you to lose data. A warning describes an action that could cause you physical harm. Follow the guidelines in this document or on the unit itself when handling electrical equipment. This symbol indicates menu commands (and subcommands) in the order you select them. For example, File > Import means to open the File menu and then select the Import command. This symbol indicates a single-step procedure. Multiple arrows in a list indicate that you perform one of the actions listed.

Editing WorkflowYour editing workflow depends on a variety of factors. For example, you might work on a standard-definition video project, a film project, or an HD project. The following procedure lists the basic steps for editing a sequence and refers you to sections of the documentation for more information. 1. Create or open a project. For more information, see Starting a Project on page 35. 2. Set the appropriate Project settings and create a bin structure. For more information, see Working with the Project Window on page 65. 3.
