The Artist Poster Analysis

The colour of the poster; black and white; indicate what the film itself will revolve around. The film is known to be the first silent/black and white film in many years, and therefore the colours on the poster don’t break away from the movie’s style.

The clothes and styles of the characters shows that the film definitely isn’t set in this period of time; but probably from the early 20th Century, and the fact that the film is set in the late-1920s/early 1930s backs up this connotation.

The names of the cast and the director on the poster suggest that the film was made in another country rather than America or England.

The font that is used for the film’s title suggests that the film is both flashy and is set a number of years ago.

Shame Poster Analysis

The colour of the poster; orange/red; indicate what the film itself will revolve around. Red usually has connotations of either love or lust; and the fact that the movie is called ‘Shame’, makes me think that the movie more about lust rather than love.

The reviews of the film at the top of the poster are used to show how good the film is; and the fact that it has been given good reviews by professional publications such as Empire Magazine and The Guardian shows that the film must be very good. The two conjoined

images used in the poster could connote something significant about these two people in the movie. My main thought was that these two characters are bound together in some way, yet they are both separated in some way.

The names of the two actors in the middle of the poster show are the main people in the movie.

The Descendants Poster Analysis

The title of the movie, The Descendants, could show that this film is possibly about lost relations, or possibly even looking back into the past about the main character’s history.

The reviews given of both the film and George Clooney’s performance are used to persuade the viewers of this poster to see this film.

The fact that the film features George Clooney, and that the poster shows that he is the ‘star’ of the movie (he is on the majority of the poster), will make a large audience want to see the film for him alone.

The scenery (sea, sand and mountains) around George Clooney in the poster shows where the movie is set. Possibly somewhere tropical; e.g. on the coast of America, or maybe even on an island off American possibly.
