Background on artist:Natalie Major is a 17 year old girl who is from America. Although her hometown is Chicago, she now lives in Los Angeles. Natalie has aspired to be a singer since she was a young girl. Her inspirations are Sia, Florence and the machine, the black keys, Conor Oberst and Justin Nozuka.

In 2014, Natalie released an album called ‘Little Mockingbird’, on her album it featured a total of 5 songs. She has also released a few songs in 2015 and 2016 as well. The song I will be doing for my music video was not on this album, however when I first listened to this song, I was able to imagine the direction for this music video and how I would be able to do so.

‘Heartbreaker’ concept and ideas:The song ‘Heartbreaker’ was an original song by Natalie Major. I chose this song because I liked the beat, the song itself and the overall message behind it. Personally, I believe this song has a pop-rock vibe to it, so in my music video I will be conveying the codes and conventions of a pop-rock music video. In my opinion, I believe the song is about a girl who was cheated on, and in order for her to stop being heartbroken, she decides to become the heartbreaker. My idea for my music video is in order to solve this problem, she comes up with the idea that in order to no longer feel heartbroken she will get revenge. This is done by taking out the girl's heart (which is the girl he cheated on with), she will also destroy a piece of his clothing, and she will destroy the gifts he gave her. However, she feels as if that's not enough, so in the end, she decides to take out her heart and breaks it by smashing it on the floor.

Performance and Narrative:In my music video I will use both performance and narrative to make my music video more interesting. When my actress performs the song, she will be using microphone to make the performance more realistic. The story I will be trying to tell to my audience will be that my main actress is tired of being used, so she takes matters into her own hands and she decides to do something about it.

Location:For my music video, I will be shooting in a range of places for my music video. One of the locations that we will be shooting at is at my school’s drama room because it’s a spacious room, with equipment that I will need for my music video e.g. a green screen and spotlights.

Another location for my music video will be at Lambley Dumbles. I will be shooting her because I will get a range of shots of my artist in the countryside. Although when I film here, it won’t be a part of the

narrative, it will mostly be my main actress lip-syncing.

I will also be shooting at my house for my music video. I will be shooting some of the narrative at my house, as well as outside my house.

Lighting:

All of my filming will be done in the daytime. By doing so, my music video will have natural light (which is a pop-rock music code and convention), although I will be using spotlights when I’m filming in the drama room when using the green screen. Since I’m filming this in late October and

November, the sun goes down earlier, which means the daylight is limited, therefore I will have to make sure when I’m filming it will have to be at an appropriate time before it turns dark.

Camera shots:

In my music video, I will be using a range of camera shots throughout my music video. I will use certain shots which will help the audience understand what could happen next. For example, I will be using an over the shoulder shot, which will show my main actress using her phone in order to show what will happen, by doing this it will give the audience a clearer understanding on what’s happening. I will also be using different camera movements, for example I will be using track when following my artist, I decided to do this because it’s convenient for my music video, and it’s a common camera movement used in other music videos.

Editing and Effects:

For my music video to be successful, I will have to use editing software in order for my music video to be at a good standard. When editing my music video, I used IMovie, which I have used for other filming projects. I believe using IMovie will be a good editing software because I have used it before, meaning I have a better

understanding on how to use it, it also has a lot of features for me to use when editing.

When editing my music video, I will be using various effects to make my music video more exciting, rather than just leaving it and looking boring. The effects that I will be using when editing will be to change the colours of the music video to make it look lighter and natural. At

times I will also speed up shots or slow them down to match the beat of the song.

Costumes:

In my music video, my actors will be wearing clothes that match the music video, as well as the music genre. Throughout the music video, my main actor and other actors will be wearing different clothes. One of the clothes my main actor will be wearing is a

leather jacket and black jeans. I decided to go with this outfit choice because when I watched other pop-rock music videos, this outfit was a common choice. The black jeans and black leather jacket gives connotations of rebellion, as well as mystery, which I want convey with my main character.

Another outfit choice will be a blue denim jacket. I have decided to include this because this jacket seems to be very laid-back, which at times can be a code and convention of a pop-rock music video.

I have also decided to include a red flannel for my music video. I decided to use a red flannel for one of my costumes because the two colours red and black can connote different and similar themes, for example red can connote love and anger, whereas black can connote mystery, but both colours can connote power,

and these themes are used in my music video.

Makeup:

The makeup that will be used for my music video won’t be anything eccentric. However, I will be using red lipstick, which will be worn by my main actress. The colour red can connote

power as well as love, and these two connotations are two important themes throughout my music video.

Props:

I will be using a various amount of props throughout my music video. The first prop that I will talk about is an IPhone. I have decided to use this as a prop in my music video, because when filming my music video, in few of the shots there will be close up shots of my actress using the phone in order to find her targets.

I will also be using a stove lighter in my music video. This will be in my music video, because this will be when my actress finally let’s go of some of the pain, and she burns

a letter from one of the boys who played her in the past.

I will also be using a ceramic red heart throughout my music video. This is the most important prop in my music video, this will be the heart used when my main actress pulls out other girls hearts. This will also be used towards the end of my music video. At first I was going to use a glass heart because I thought it would smash easier, but then I decided to use a ceramic heart instead.
