Comments: Always a hard class to judge not only because of the variety in styles but also because the quality of wine is sohigh. The wines called back showcased all style and ages. NV and vintage styles were awarded golds - the oldervintage wines getting the top vote. NSW fizz is an exciting category.

Comments: 100% medal strike rate shows the strength and quality of NSW Riesling. The top gold was a classic style while theother gold showed the joy of aged styles. A lot of discussion from the judges on styles with some wines with texture and residual sugar getting time on the recall table. Exciting category.

Current Semillon

Comments: Semillon is always treat at this show. The judges wowed by wines from both the 21 and 19 vintages with differentstyles rewarded.

Some 19's looked tired while some 21 vintage wines looked a touch green echoing the cooler vintage.A strong class with the best wines having aromatic interest, intensity and length. There were a small number of wines with ripeness issues, but in general it was a strong class with true highlights. A very satisfying class to judge.Youthful, expressive wines with purity excelled. Herbals elements from the recent vintages evident in the lesser wines.

Comments: Not as many highlights as was hoping to see. In many wines, the fruit characters were ultra sweet and a littlehoneyed. Freshness is an important element to preserve and promote in SB. The best wines had focus,freshness, intensity, drive and balance.

A class that always creates debate but also offers an insight into the strength of NSW Chardonnay. As in anyshow with Chardonnay balance is key with bright being the star. The top wines are fresh and vibrant, with fruiteasily carrying any winemaking artifact.

Comments: It was a pleasure to judge this strong class of NSW shiraz. Many wines had tremendously good flavour, withdiverse profiles representative of the different origins across the state. The very best wines had exceptional tannin, which was not only in balance with the fruit but also refined and appealing. Impressed by the level of high-class winemaking on display.Bright fruit was a hallmark of this class. Many appealing wines with good energy and balanced tannins. Good winemaking was on display.Lovely purity across the class as a whole. Well structured wines with mature phenolics stood above the pack. In all a smart class.

Comments: This class exceeded expectations. The best wines had ripe fruit and appropriate tannins. We were looking forcomposure and balance and the top wines displayed these characters. There was good winemaking on displayacross the class. Though winemakers should always be mindful of tannin extraction, and ensure that the tanninintensity is in harmony with the fruit.
