The State of Cannabis Testing➢ There are too frequent press reports of mis-labeling

problems in the cannabis industry, due in part to

– Unrepresentative Sampling

– Cannabis instability

– Lack of standardized testing

How it Works I

1. Patent Pending – United States non-provisional utility patent applied

for

2. A general purpose quantitative mid-infrared spectrometer.

3. Mid-infrared is 10x-100x more sensitive and more selective than near

infrared

Experimental▪ Mid-infrared spectra measured in triplicate using the BSS 2000

Cannabis Analyzer from Big Sur Scientific

1250-952 cm-1, where cannabinoids strongly absorb

12 cm-1 instrumental resolution

MIR More sensitive and selective than NIR

▪ Analyzed 7 cannabis oil samples from Pop NaturalsCO2 oil not winterized but undergoes a “proprietary process”

▪ Cannabinoid and Terpene profiles measured by chromatography CW

Analytical, Oakland CA

▪ Chemometric models built using infrared spectra and chromatographic

data in Big Sur Scientific Model Builder SoftwarePLS-1 algorithm

Individual models built for each algorithm

Generally 4-5 principal components used

Savitsky-Golay 1st derivative used in some cases

▪ 2 minutes/sample, push button operation

▪ Only need a few mgs of sample

▪ Calibrations customized to customers products and trusted lab

▪ All stated accuracies are averaged cross validation standard

error of predictions

Conclusions

1. There is a need in the Cannabis industry for more in-

house potency testing at more times and in more places

than is currently available

2. The BSS 2000 accurately determines 9 cannabinoids and

11 terpenes in cannabis oils giving a cannabinoid and

terpene profile

3. The BSS 2000 accurately determines THCA, THC, CBDA,

CBD, and CBN in buds

4. The BSS 2000 accurately determines THCA, THC, CBDA,

CBD, and CBN, and in shatter/resins/wax/sugar/rosin

5. Allows truly representative sampling

6. Allows cannabis businessed to perform potency testing in

times and places previously thought impossible
