Assignment Title: No.2 (Group Project)

Banglo – Kelas D, Mukim Semenyih, Daerah Hulu Langat Percentage of Assessment: 20%Submission Date: 1 December 2016 (Thursday) at 12 noon.

Assessment brief

Based on the drawings provided, you are required to prepare a COMPLETE TAKING-OFF for the following structural elements of the chosen building.

Pad footings including excavations from reduce level. Work below ground floor level including excavations, ground floor slab and apron slab etc. Ground floor beams Column stumps, columns and stiffeners Roof beams

Notes Excavate topsoil 50 mm deep to be disposed off- site, hardcore to be 150mm thick.

To develop an understanding of the principles of measurement and techniques in preparing the Bills of Quantities and Specification writing.

To develop an awareness of the nature, content, and significance of tendering and contractual documentation.

To have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the Standard Method of Measurement in taking-off quantities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this assignment, students will be able to: Explain and able to interpret clauses in the Standard Method of Measurement (SMM) and adopt a

systematic approach to take-off quantities from drawing for the various trades in relation to sub-structure and reinforced concrete frame works.

Distinguish and illustrate differences in writing-up descriptions in accordance to design changes for sub-structure and reinforced concrete frame works.

Evaluate the relationship between Specifications, Drawings and Bill of Quantities in Tender Documents for sub-structure and reinforced concrete frame works.

Generate a conceptual understanding of and the ability to competently carry out the preparation of the Bills of Quantities for sub-structure and reinforced concrete frame works.

Submission rules

Individual submission to Group Leader will consist of the following: Billing paper (handwritten) Query list Taking-off list Dimension sheets Peer assessment Form

The group leader will collect all the members’ work and compile it in a binded document (comb binding) with a COVER of the university's logo and all the names of all group members. He will also need to do a SUMMARY of all the Billing Papers and to submit a complete BILL followed by everyone's work.

The Bill of Quantities will be arranged in the following sequence: Billing (to insert in front of BQ and hand written) Pad footings Work below ground floor level including excavations, ground floor slab and apron slab etc. Ground floor beams Column stumps, columns and stiffeners Roof beams.
