Q: My trash didn’t get picked up- what can I do?A: Waste Management is the trash service provider within the Meadows Neighborhood Company. Trash is picked up on a weekly basis (Fri-day) during the hours of 7 AM to 7 PM. Recycling is picked up every other week (see Waste Management calen-dar on Meadowslink.com for dates). From time to time, Waste Management is unable to complete the route. This can be because of mechanical issues with the truck, excessive amounts of trash that fill the truck quicker than normal, or weather related issues dur-ing the winter months. If your trash is not picked up- please contact Waste Manage-ment Customer Service at 303-797-1600. Customer service will then log a missed pick up ticket and arrange for a pick up, often for the following day. After reporting to Waste Management you can certainly report the issue to the Association, as we communicate regularly with the Account Manager on all issues.

When the Association is aware of delays or missed pickups, homeowners will not be cited for their trash can remaining at the curb.

Also keep in mind the holiday trash schedule- if there is an observed holiday, trash pickup will be delayed one day. The observed holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiv-ing and Christmas. Q: Why won’t the HOA provide recommendations on landscap-ers, painters, etc.? A: The Association sees dozens of company names come through on architectural applications. However, they are not doing work for the Association, they are doing work for individual homeowners. As a result, we do not know the details of the interac-tions, the quality of work, and many other aspects of the overall process. We encourage you to talk to neighbors about contractors they have used, or check out websites such as Angie’s List, Team Dave Logan or the many others that provide contractor names and recommendations from customers.

If you are thinking of updating the landscaping, building a deck, or em-barking on some other project that will require the services of a contrac-tor here are some guidelines to help with the process. If it’s something that needs association approval, don’t forget to follow the steps of our architectural review process.

Helpful guidelines:1. Reconcile your contractors’ objectives with your own. You

want your project to be completed on time and on budget. Contrac-tors want to maximize their compensation. Design a compensation plan that, at each stage of the project, maximizes your contractors’ profits when they achieve your objectives.

Community Manager Q & ABy Cassie Thomas Community Manager

2. Nothing drives down prices like competition. Any price you obtain without competition will be higher than a price you obtain with it.

3. Write down everything you expect. Effective competition requires a complete, accurate, and final definition of the goods and services involved in the project.

4. Use standard forms for your contracts. The American Institute of Architects offers a variety of sample documents at www.aia.org/docs_default. Just realize there’s no such thing as a standard project and customize your contracts accordingly.

5. There is no substitute for professionalism. An architect, con-tractor, or other participant in your project who has a track record of character and professionalism will likely demonstrate those qualities on your project. A participant with the opposite track record will probably remain true to form.

Families, friends, and neighbors who are looking for a way to support the community and make an impact in the fight against cancer are invited to join the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Castle Rock. The Relay For Life event takes place at Phillip S. Miller Park, 1375 West Plum Creek Parkway in Castle Rock on Saturday, July 25 from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Relay For Life events take place across the country each year. While every event ref lects the unique spirit of each community, everyone who participants comes together to make a difference. Relay For Life events celebrate those who survived cancer, remember those who have been lost to cancer, and they fight back against the disease.

The Relay For Life of Castle Rock begins with an opening ceremony and a special lap where cancer survivors are recognized. A procession of teams follows and then the event begins. Throughout the Relay For Life, a member of each team is asked to be on the track. A variety of fun activities will take place during the event. A DJ will help keep people moving, as well as three bands and a magician. A moving luminaria ceremony will honor and recognize those who had cancer, with lights in paper bags casting a soft glow across the track. The event will conclude with a closing ceremony before midnight. Below is a schedule of activities:

From contributing to a cancer research project, to funding a program for cancer patients, the American Cancer Society utilizes the money to support its mission of eliminating cancer as a major health issue.

DonationstotheAmericanCancerSocietyarehelpingfindcancer’scauses and cures through groundbreaking research. In Colorado, the Societycurrentlyfunds16cancerresearchgrantsatover$7.2million.Contributions also help the Society do the most to help people with cancer today. Nearly 552,000 Colorado residents touched by cancer get the help they need 24 hours a day by contacting the Society through cancer.org and 1-800-227-2345. Funds raised at Relay For Life help discover new ways to prevent cancer or find it early, at its most treatable stage and help people take steps to stay healthy. The American Cancer Society also sets guidelines that physicians use for early detection and prevention. Additionally, donations help fight cancer as much through public policy as in the laboratory. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the nonprofit, nonpartisan affiliate of the American Cancer Society, works to make cancer issues a top priority.

the meadoWs hiking cluB Written by: Rick NolanVolunteer Coordinator for the Meadows Hiking Club and Meadows Resident

We are halfway through our hiking season for 2015 but we still have a lot of exciting and beautiful hikes scheduled for this summer and fall. If you are interested in doing some hiking and enjoying the great outdoors as many of us do in Colorado, please join our group. The best way to find out about us is to join us on one of our hikes which we do every Thursday evening and Saturday morning.

The purpose of our club is to provide an opportunity for those interested in hiking to meet other hikers on a regular basis and experience a variety of different hikes. Our hiking experience will range from less strenu-ous evening hikes (Thursdays) to more aggressive and difficult hikes on Saturdays up some of Colorado’s highest mountain peaks. Each year our club has grown and improved the variety and quality of hikes that we do. We hope all of you that are interested in joining a local hiking group will come check us out.

PlaygrouP at the grange Grab your little ones for a playgroup every Thursday at The Grange. For kids ages 0-5, this group is fun, relaxed, and provides a great opportunity for you and your children to meet others in your neighborhood. An attentive parent or caretaker must accompany all children. If your little one is under the weather, please keep him or her at home until they are feeling better.

Ages 0-5 Every Thursday 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

THE MEADOWS AT CASTLE ROCK 18

The Meadows encompasses approximately 3950 acres and has over5,000 homes. It is a lot of ground to cover. As a result, there are multiple entities involved. Did you know that when it comes to the landscaped areas along the public roads the maintenance responsibilities may belong to the Town of Castle Rock, the Meadows Neighborhood Company, Meadows Community Association or the Meadows Metropolitan Districts? The same can be said for the trail systems found throughout the Meadows. Another great example is the entry monuments into the community at Wolfensberger/Coachline or highway 85 and Meadows Parkway. The monuments and the associated lighting are maintained by the Metropolitan District. When issues are reported for property that is not owned or maintained by the Meadows Neighborhood Company, staff will then report the issue to the responsible entity. We may also direct the homeowner to the appropriate contact, as it may be easier for a homeowner to report the information directly.

here is a little about each of the entities in case you are not familiar with them all-

There are two homeowners associations within The Meadows. There are a number of neighborhoods located in the northern portion of the Meadows, accessible from Butterfield Crossing Drive. These neighborhoods, along with Soaring eagle estates, make up the Meadows Community Association (MCA). The MCA is managed by a third party management company named MSI, LLC. The remainder of the Meadows neighborhoods fall within the Meadows Neighborhood Company (MNC), the Master Association. Within the MNC, there are a two sub-associations, specifically, Morgans Run and New haven.

TheMetropolitanDistrictshavebeeninexistencesince1985.Sevendistricts were established pursuant to Colorado law. These districts were charged with the task of funding municipal infrastructure and services necessary to serve The Meadows. Work includes installation of water, sewer, street and park and recreation facilities normally attendant to a large development. The funds for such projects were a result of general obligation bonds, and taxes levied against the properties that are within the boundaries of the metropolitan districts. The Districts maintain various landscaped areas, such as the center medians around Meadows Boulevard.

The Town of Castle Rock provides many services within The Meadows. They are responsible for streets, snow removal, and emergency services. The Town is also responsible for specific areas of trails and open space within The Meadows. Two examples are the NativeLegendOpenSpaceandtheRidgelineOpenSpace.

each of these entities takes pride in the services they provide. They all work together to try and provide seamless services to the residents of The Meadows. It is a lot of ground to cover and everyone is working to do their part.

A Lot of Ground to CoverNew Homeowner OrientationWelcome to The Meadows to all of our new Neighbors! You are invited to a New Homeowner Orientation at The Grange on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m. Come learn more about your community in a quick and informal way. If you have any questions, please call The Grange at 303-814-2358.
