Congratulations to this month’s Cover Contest winner, Terri Diaz. She receives a $25 gift card. The

winner of the Hidden Picture Contest is Matt Williamson. Also, the recipient of a $25 gift card. The hidden blue egg was on page 20 in Dr. Azank’s ad. In this issue, you will be looking for a small yellow flower. Remember, it is in an ad, not the editorial.

There are a ton of fun events coming in May and early June. Check inside for details.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, on Mother’s Day, stop and take some time: Mothers are our protectors, our teachers, our guides through life. Most of them pour their hearts into their children, celebrating the successes and suffering in empathy through the heartbreaks.

And they no longer do it with the luxury of staying home with their kids. The majority of women work outside the home, a financial necessity in these times. Yet, in many households, they still carry the lioness’ share of the work and worry.Today, on Mother’s Day, we have

a designated chance to share our appreciation for all they have done, for the kisses, the care, the advice, for all they do to try to make our lives easier.

We will celebrate with cards, special meals, gifts and flowers. But most mothers will tell you that what they want most is time. As we grow up and get involved with our own lives and families, it sometimes gets harder to break away enough time to just sit and talk, to laugh over childhood memories or to help out with jobs that need to be done. So,

take the time this Mother’s Day (and everyday), because someday, there will be no time.

Have a wonderful May and send us all your community pictures to share and possibly win the Cover Photo Contest!

MP1’s Community FairWell, a little rain didn’t stop our Community Council volunteers from hosting another great event at the clubhouse on Saturday, March 31st. With 46 vendors on site along with a couple of area grocers, a BBQ guru, and some great activities for the kids, the MPCC held another successful event for Meadow Pointe, its residents and our surrounding communities.

Once again the rock wall was a huge hit with the kids as they demonstrated their abilities to scale the inflatable wall. They had a little help from the harness helpers but all in all it was great fun to watch the kids reach higher and higher. They were so proud of themselves when they got all the way to the top! Another popular attraction was the fastball pitching net. Each person got the chance to get a speed check on their fastball while pitching into a net with a pretend batter standing in the batter’s box. We may have some future pitchers for the Tampa Bay Rays right here in Meadow Pointe! The two ponies got a big workout as well. There was a steady line of kids waiting their turn to ride the ponies throughout

the entire event. And of course the petting zoo received its share of attention. The llama was the biggest hit but the rest of the animals (miniature horse, ducks, bunnies, chickens and more) got plenty of admiration too.

Special thanks go to Dennis Costa and Keith Fisk along with their staff of volunteers and workers for putting together another wonderful event for the community. More pictures can be found on our website at www.meadowpointecdd.com.

Sunday Swim & Supper Summer Kick OffYour Meadow Pointe Community Council is hosting a Sunday Swim and Lunch event on Sunday, June 10th from noon to 1:30pm. Come enjoy a hot dog or hamburger, chips and choice of beverage for $2. There will be music, free beach balls and freeze pops for the kids. Check out the new splash pad with its mushroom waterfall and water cannons. What a great way to cool off in the summer heat. So come enjoy the water and lunch on our pool deck.

Reminders

Protecting MP1’s Conservation/Wetlands Please remember to protect our conservation/wetlands! Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) will place fines on the CDD if there is any disturbance to conservation/wetlands. This includes walking through, playing, clearing, planting,

building forts or structures, etc. Parents, please remind your children about this issue.

Our Storm Water Retention Ponds

Did you know that in MP1, the flow of storm water goes from storm sewers, to retention ponds, to Clay Creek, and then to the Hillsborough River? Most ponds in MP1 are drainage retention ponds, which are connected to the storm water drainage system. Therefore, EVERYTHING that goes into these storm drains ends up in our ponds.

We ask that all residents and residential landscape companies dispose of grass clippings in the trash rather than blowing clippings onto our streets. Owners of lots abutting drainage retention ponds are responsible for mowing and routine maintenance of the drainage easement to the pond’s edge. Meadow Pointe CDD is responsible for the remaining drainage easement maintenance.

Where else can you go to find ladybugs and teddy bear

hospitals alongside mummies and dinosaurs? Why Museum Of Science and Industry, of course! Summer is right around the corner, and MOSI is gearing up for its Summer Science Camps for kids in preschool through high school. Camps start on June 11 and continue throughout the summer. Whether they are preparing their very own green slime, building and launching rockets from junk, or mixing up potions in their very own Hogwarts, it’s always fun seeing young people learn while having a blast. On the other end of MOSI, IMAX® audiences can be transported to one of the most remote and spectacularly beautiful places in the world. Viewers will experience an emotional story of love, family and hope with the

documentary adventure “To The Arctic,” now playing at the MOSI IMAX® Dome Theatre.

Additionally, the Mummies of the World exhibition has debuted at the Museum of Science & Industry. With its astounding collection of 150 specimens and objects, Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of real human and animal mummies ever assembled.

Portraying over 45 real mummies from South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania as well ancient Egypt, Mummies of the World will forever change your perception of mummies. Through modern science and engaging interactives, the exhibition reveals how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people from every

region of the world, offering insights into past cultures and civilizations. And if you still have energy to spare, check out MOSI’s new Sky Trail Ropes Course, which features 36 elements on a 12 – 36 foot high, multilevel structure. The Ropes Course is designed with challenging high-energy feats ideal for all ages. And, coming in June, MOSI will

open its Sky Trail Zip Line. Check the website periodically at www.mosi.org for opening dates and times.

MOSI is the proud winner of the 2009 National Medal for Museums by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation’s highest honor for museums. It is located at 4801 East Fowler Ave., Tampa. 813-987-6000.

You may have a problem with your hearing and need to see an audiologist if you

have trouble hearing conversation in a noisy environment such as a restaurant, are unable to hear people talk to you without looking at them, or have a constant ringing or pain in your ears.

The first step in treatment of a hearing problem is a hearing evaluation by an audiologist. Although most hearing loss is permanent, an audiologist can determine the best treatment, which may include hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and hearing rehabilitation.

As part of Better Hearing Month, Florida Medical Clinic is hosting an open house at both of their Audiology offices in Wesley Chapel, 27634 Cashford Circle and in Zephyrhills, 38103 Market Square, on Tuesday, May 8th and Wednesday, May 9th. MP II CDD SUPERVISORSChairman: Linda [email protected]: Mark [email protected] Treasurer: Jim [email protected] Secretary: Glen [email protected]: Brian [email protected]

I would like to thank our residents, vendors and staff for helping to keep Meadow Pointe II CDD CLEAN and

GREEN. We have staff each day of the week to remove trash from our clubhouse, courts, parking lot, playgrounds, 108+ ponds as well as emptying the numerous trash receptacles throughout the CDD Property. I think you will agree it takes a lot of hours out of each work day to maintain a clean community for all to enjoy. We have residents come into the clubhouse and tell the staff how nice the property looks and we wish to thank them

We do need to work hard to clean up after our pets near our walkways, and grounds if we are to maintain a healthy environment for our children. We call to report if someone is fishing in our ponds, if the ponds need treating, or if the gates aren’t working; so why would we not call Pasco County when

seeing someone not picking up waste from their pet?

The future of our community is for all of us to work as a team to ensure we will always have a clean community to take pride in and keep all property values from declining more. I encourage and support all of us to do our part in removing any trash or unsightly items from our yards so we do not have reported Deed Violations turned into the office. We perform landscape inspections each month to ensure all our landscaping is being performed to the highest degree so our residents can see a greener area and enjoy the beautiful seasonal plants for color at each village entrance. I wish to close by asking you, “Do you want a clean and green community?”

Respectfully-Bill Snyder

Reside on a PondA reminder to all residents who reside on a pond or

“sump”/conservation area; it is extremely important

that you maintain your landscaping regarding the

This becomes an issue when residents allow their

WildlifeA warning to our residents as the spring/ summer approaches to be aware of the animal wildlife that may be stirring this time of year and to treat them with respect & caution. Snakes have been seen in numerous villages, close to houses and shrub-bery. Also alligators become very territorial during the mating season, so all residents and their pets should admire them from afar.

girl Scouts is celebrating 100 years of building girls of cour-age, confidence, and character,

and Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF) invites all girls entering grades 1 – 12 to celebrate with us at camp this summer, whether or not they are Girl Scouts! Overnight camps are offered throughout June and July at two of the council’s camp properties, and day camps are offered throughout the eight counties GSWCF serves – there’s something for every girl! Non-Girl Scouts are welcome to register for summer camp, and many girls join each year through the camp pathway as part of the new-age mem-bership model of Girl Scouts. Girls who join at the time of summer camp pay a one-time, annual membership fee of $12. GSWCF-owned Camps Dorothy Thomas, Scoutcrest and Wildwood are American Camp Association (ACA)

accredited; three of 16 ACA-accredited camps within a 100 mile radius of Tampa, according to the ACA website Horseback riding, water skiing, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), healthy living, arts and crafts, and swimming are among the many activities offered at Girl Scout summer camps. Can’t decide on just one? Not quite sure about sleeping away for a week? Girls can customize their camp experiences. All sessions include sports, nature exploration, and arts and crafts, and campfires for a well-rounded camp experience. If parents are looking for a safe, secure, nurturing all-girl environment where girls of all ages are taught respect for self and others, and have amazing opportunities to explore their passions – Girl Scout camp is the place for your daughter. Girl Scout camp sessions are also very affordable with pricing start-ing at $75/girl for day camp and $175/

girl for overnight camp.

Girl Scout summer camp programs encompass a rich history of 100 years of pro-viding outdoor experiences for girls. Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts in 1912 on the premise that girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Under her guid-ance, she encouraged girls to get out of their home environments and into the open air. The first Girl Scouts hiked, played basketball, went on camping trips and learned to tell time by the stars. “One hundred years later, girls are still having a blast at camp!” said Kim Jow-ell, CEO, GSWCF. “One of my favorite times of year is going out to our summer camps to interact with girls. I see girls of all ages arrive at camp somewhat shy and

hesitant about the days ahead, but after several days of the Girl Scout camp ex-perience, they leave more self-confident, with new friends and truly exhausted from all the activities!” Visit www.gswcf.org/summercamp to view the 2012 Girl Scout Sum-mer Camp guide and take a peek at Camps Scoutcrest and Wildwood. Registration for summer camps is available online at www.gswcf.org/

People almost always recog-nize the pink colored ribbons printed on shirts, towels,

coffee cups, or just about anything. That distinct pink ribbon has become uniquely identified with breast cancer. Breast cancer, two words no woman wants to hear in her doctor’s office. But as scary as these words may be there is hope.

Breast cancer treatment has evolved significantly over the past two decades. Advances in breast cancer research and improved technol-ogy have turned a once devastating diagnosis into a treatable disease. Paramount in achieving this is early detection.

For this reason, Dr. Collins cannot stress enough to women 40 years of age and older the importance of yearly mammograms. Breast cancer most often presents without

symptoms which is why screening mammography is an important tool for early detection.

When a diagnosis of breast cancer is made Dr. Collins reminds her patients that there are treatment options. This disease does not affect everyone the same and treatment is not “one size fits all.” Surgical treat-ment options are much improved and do not always require complete removal of the breast (mastectomy).

Most patients have the option of breast conservation therapy where only the cancerous portion of the breast is removed. Even in cases where mastectomy is required women now have various options available for breast reconstruction.

Most of these surgical treatments can be offered by Dr. Collins and the facilities at Florida Medical

Clinic. But it should be kept in mind that cancer treatment is best achieved through a team approach where many doctors from different specialties come togeth-er to provide a treatment plan for an individual patient. Dr. Collins will work with physicians in other specialties at the Florida Medical Clinic to offer comprehensive care to her patients.

At Florida Medical Clinic Dr. R. Collins will perform surgeries including breast surgery, advanced laparoscopic procedures, intestinal surgery, hernia repairs, gall bladder surgery, skin cancer removal, wound care, and port placements, to name a few.

For patient convenience, Dr. Collins is available in two locations: zephyrhills, 813-780-8160 and Tampa, 813-979-7707.

The Derek Pieper has hosted Lacrosse teams from as far away as Canada! The amazing growth and success of the WCAA could not be possible without our volunteers. Over 300 volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks such as coaching a team or keeping the organization’s financials. The General Board of Directors is the primary governing body of the WCAA consisting of about 25 individuals. Positions on the Board consist of the individual Sport Directors as well as administrative positions such as the Treasurer, President and Vice President. All Board positions are elected positions with a two-year term.

The WCAA is currently in discussions with Pasco County to expand programs and services. A number of topics are in ongoing discussions, such as the possibility of building an indoor gymnasium at the Wesley Chapel District Park. An indoor gymnasium would allow

the WCAA to offer additional sports programs such as volleyball, indoor basketball, wrestling and other indoor activities. We invite your input regarding such matters: please write us at [email protected]! the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association (WCAA) has served the families and children of

Wesley Chapel for nearly 12 years. As a volunteer run organization, the WCAA has thrived and grown over the years now serving over 3,500 families and offering 7 unique sports programs for area youth. As an organization, the WCAA had very humble beginnings; dating back to 2000 when Wesley Chapel was a one stoplight town (OK – maybe two.) In those days, finding facilities to host sporting events was difficult as county recreational facilities were virtually non-existent.

A group of parents banded together to form the WCAA and began

offering flag football leagues on any open field available. In time, the programs grew along with Wesley Chapel itself. WCAA volunteers petitioned the county to build a park to host sports programs for the WCAA. In time, the county agreed there was a need for a park and decided to build the Wesley Chapel District Park where the WCAA now operates.

When the park was opened, the WCAA invested over $ 100,000 to prepare the park to host WCAA programs. Today, WCAA offers soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, lacrosse, flag football, tackle football and cheerleading at the park. In addition, the WCAA hosts several

MPIV Eggstravaganza

Our first annual EGGSTRAVAGANZA was a success. Many thank to those of you who

came out and enjoyed the games, prizes, and con-tests. I know the children enjoyed the mad dash for more than 250 Eggs. A big thank you to Amy Tay-lor and Brighthouse for donating many of the eggs

and candy for our event. Without the generosity of your company this event would not have been possible. Thank you to the volunteers that came out to help set up, take down and run the activities for the day. Also thank you to the Committee IV Events volunteers who helped plan and coordinate

the event. Thank you Angelique for the wonderful pictures so that we could share them with all the residents. If you would like to get involved and help plan a community event please send us an email at [email protected] for information about our next event and volunteer meeting times.

This year the playground has been renovated and all the sand has been removed. Come and enjoy the new mulch that is safer for your children. Also, The district has installed a Tetherball court so bring the kids out and show them some old school fun.

they sat with backs erect, instruments poised to play. Slowly, in unison, they turned

their attention to their conductor. Purposefully his extended arms rose up. First I heard the horns, wood-winds sounded, strings joined in followed by that impressive looking and sounding tuba. Percussion and keyboards sounded a beat. Was that a xylophone I heard? The musical tones of 58 musicians swelled the church hall. So began the weekly rehearsal of the Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble.

The Ensemble is a performance based concert band whose members are committed to community service. Musicians range in age from 12 to 85 years. Their weekly practice prepares them for seasonal concerts which benefit local communities. Band includes adults who are returning after time away and professional musicians. Students come from Land O’Lakes, Pasco, Wiregrass, Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills High Schools. RB Stewart and Thomas E. Weightman Middle Schools and home schooled students complete the band.

The Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble Showcasing the Arts, which is a char-ity event that benefits Fine Arts of the Suncoast’s ‘Arts for Kids’ programs,

will be May 20th at 3 pm. This program supports and preserves art programs in Pasco County middle and high schools. It also supports enrichment opportunities for art teachers who bring that experience into their classrooms. It will be held at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel, 30651 Wells Road, Wesley Chapel, 33545.

Arts in Motion theater players will open the event. Musical acts include the Jazz Band, Dixieland Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, and finishes with the full Concert Band. Expect to be dazzled by these professional and student musicians performing together. Several student artists will also be displaying their art work at the event.

Refreshments will be available for purchase. Raffle tickets for a variety of prizes will also be available in advance or at the event for $5.

Advertisement pages are available for purchase in our program, deadline is May 8th. Ads can be purchased on our website www.wesleychapel-windensemble.com Tickets can be pre-purchased on our website at www.wesleychapelwindensemble.com or purchased at the door for $5. v

SAnD PInE PTA FAMILy BARBECUE nIgHT

The Sand Pine Elementary School PTA hosted its first Family Barbe-cue Night on Friday, March 16th. This sold-out event was incredibly successful, receiving many positive reviews from the Sand Pine El-ementary School community.

Sand Pine students, families, staff, and friends came dressed in their country/western attire ready to eat, dance, and have some good old-fashioned family fun. The school cafeteria was beautifully decorated and country music welcomed every-one to the event.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit catered the event, serving a delicious barbecue dinner for all to enjoy. The food was fantastic and the Dickey’s staff was friendly, helpful, and very sup-portive of the family event. After dinner, PTA Board members and volunteers served Bruster’s Real Ice Cream and apple pie.

In addition to the great food, there were western-themed games, family photos, raffles, a talented balloon artist, and dancing!

The PTA would like to thank Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Kristine Freed Photography, KidzFunEvents.com, and all of the volunteers who helped to make this event such a success. These events are not possible with-out the help and support from the volunteers and local businesses.

A special thank you to Chrystal Mueller and Hethre Smith for coor-dinating the Family Barbecue!
