This year has been a much better winter. At this time last year we were still
freezing. It reached the 80’s in February and is hopefully stay-ing that way now that we are in March.
Some things to look for in this month’s newsletter is the Best Spring Yard Contest, Wiregrass Ranch plans and of course the cover photo contest. The Best Spring Yard contest , will be for 2 months with the winner announced in May. Next month we are starting a “High School Senior to Watch” contest. It will be for people to send in their nominees for the most involved, caring and dedicated upcoming school year Senior. Many people are sending in their photos, news, announcements, stories, sports and more and we
really appreciate that. They are so much fun to share. Continue to send in your information and we will print as much as will fit. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please let us know. This newsletter is for all residents and we want you to be involved. Happy Spring....soon! :)

DOn HOWARD & CHRiS LOTHMeadow Pointe 1 Resident Don Howard along with Chris Loth of MP2 were instrumental in the organization of this year’s Long Run at the Ranch. Don is the Girls Cross Country head coach at WRHS, and Chris is the Boys Cross country Head coach at WRHS and Boys Track and Field coach at JLMS. The 5th annual Long Run at the Ranch was held Saturday, January 29, a gorgeous sunny day for getting outdoors, and close to 300 people did just that. Runners and walkers of all ages gathered early Saturday at JLMS to begin the 3.1 mile loop through the middle and high school parking lots and sections of Mansfield Drive. Soon after, dozens of people, including several incredibly cute
youngsters, ran the 1-mile Fun Run. The little ones pumped their arms and legs, and looked around in amazement as the crowd cheered them on. The looks on their faces was priceless! The Long Run is a fundraiser for the Athletic Departments of John Long and Wiregrass Ranch, and is a popular 5K running event in Meadow Pointe. There is abundant community involvement and great local sponsors. This year, two big sponsors were Fitniche and Beef O Brady’s from the Shoppes at Wesley Chapel. Other sponsors include New Tampa Oral and Facial Surgery, Lifesource Family Chiropractic, Smoothie King, and others. The Long Run always has great giveaways! v
We are continuing to highlight our neighbors’ achievements. If you or one of your MP1 neighbors have something noteworthy to share, please send information to [email protected] to be included!

Dr. Farina is revolutionizing the face of orthodontic care in Tampa Bay by in-
troducing the area’s first i-cat® 3-D imaging technology. This high-tech scanning equipment dramatically advances the accuracy and predict-ability of patient care, while mak-ing many discomforts of traditional treatment—such as those distasteful plaster molds or cumbersome x-rays—a thing of the past.
In less than 10 seconds, one digital scan captures a three-dimensional view of a patient’s facial anatomy, in-cluding teeth and bone tissue, joints,
sinuses, airway passages and jaw structure. Not only does the tech-nology allow for pinpoint diagnosis and comprehensive treatment plans, it does so with significantly less ra-diation than the full series of x-ray exams traditionally required.
“There is no guesswork with this technology,” explains Dr. Farina of Farina Orthodontics. “I can create treatment plans that are far more predictable and precise. I can see im-pacted teeth and bone depth before I begin moving teeth. And, I can show patients anticipated results on screen.”
Taking 30 seconds to render, each digital scan can be used to build ex-acting treatment plans and to show superimposed before-and-after out-comes. The scans can be shared with other specialists electronically to co-ordinate care. For example, a 12 year old came into Dr. Farina’s office with chronic allergies. The scan revealed polyps in the boy’s sinuses. Dr. Fa-rina was able to send the 3-D scan to the boy’s physician to aid in relieving his condition. While the technology is sure to make orthodontic patients smile, the uses of 3-D imaging ex-tend far beyond caring for smiles.
Dr. Mark S. Farina, D.M.D. has been a practicing orthodontist in the Tampa Bay area for the past 16 years, treating more than 9,000 smiles. He is a certified Diplomat of the Ameri-can Board of Orthodontics and was recently voted by his peers as one of the Bay area’s top ten orthodontists.

We have all seen flying bugs in our homes, and since it’s time for termites to swarm, we are often asked how one can tell the difference between a termite and an ant. With that said, there are simple ways to inspect the insects to determine whether they are ants with wings or termites with wings. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is to look at the body parts. Termites have two visible parts: a head and a body, whereas ants have three distinct parts: a head, abdomen and thorax.
Another identifying characteristic that separates ants from termites are the wings. The swarmers of both have two unique sets of wings. The swarming ant’s front wings are longer than the second set of wings, whereas the termite’s wings are straight and equal in length.
If you have inspected the flying insect and de-termined that it is indeed a termite your next question is obvious, “What do I do now?” To protect your home you should call for a profes-sional termite inspection. Some questions that may be asked of you are:
•Canyoudescribewhattheylooklike?
•Wheredidyouseethetermites?
•Didyouseewings?
•Whatroomsdidyoufindthemin?
•Hasyourhomeeverbeentreatedbeforefortermites?
The key thing you must remember is to set up an appointment for a termite inspection as soon as possible. Termites eat 24/7 and can cause major damage to your home. One should always remember, just as there are
medical doctors for your body; termite inspec-tors are the house doctors for your home.

By now, I’m sure all residents in the District are aware of the road work projects. These projects are a result of
the road maintenance program recommended by the District Engineer for Meadow Pointe II. Since road work is always an inconvenience for all of us, we had hoped we might have done by now, but clearly weather has changed our plans. Cold weather and moisture is our enemy when it comes to this work, and we’ve seen enough of both. Therefore, all roadwork projects have been suspended temporarily. Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to resume on or about March 14.
These being one of the first of road work projects in the District, I have been working with our vendors to create a schedule to complete the work as quickly as possible, and insure the least amount of disruption for residents. This has been very challenging. So, when the work resumes, I will be making some improvements; specifically in the area of designated parking. Dashboard plaques will be added to the roadwork notices delivered to your homes, if the work demands it. When the
work in your neighborhood requires designated parking areas, and you find yourself needing to use it, please be certain to place the parking plaque on your dashboard. This will serve as notice to the Pasco County Sherriff ’s office that your vehicle is authorized to temporarily park in those designated areas. Designated parking instructions will be outlined in the road work notice delivered to your home.
Safety for residents and work crews is of our utmost concern. Road closed signs and construction cones are for everyone. We have had some incidents to date, and have been fortunate that no one was injured. Please adhere to all traffic pattern changes during repair/seal projects in your neighborhood. Cooperation is imperative, and key to our success. The more cooperation received, the sooner we will be done, and your village returned to normal. Thank you in advance, and if you should have questions regarding the work in your neighborhood when your notice is delivered, please do not hesitate to contact the clubhouse.

Spring is here March 20th. That means it’s time for spring cleaning.
As specified in your deed restric-tions, residents are responsible for maintaining the aesthetics of their own mailbox. If your post needs re-painting both autho-rized paint colors are available at the Clubhouse office for $3 each.
We will be inspecting mailboxes shortly, so beat us to the punch; put cleaning your mailbox on the top of your to-do list.

Did You Know? There are many, many aspects of the day-to-day operation of the District. Our Property Manager, Bill Snyder has been tasked with its smooth operation. However, the Board of Supervisors assists when necessary. Each Supervisor has volunteered their services in specific areas of specialization. We thought you might be interested in those volunteer activities of our Board of Supervisors.
Mr. Gerald Lynn continues to serve Meadow Pointe II with his volunteer work as the Government Liaison Representative for the District, working with the elected officials of our county. We would like to acknowledge all of the hard work and services of our Supervisors.

The new face of Wiregrass Ranch prefers a ball cap over a cowboy hat and transparency over secrecy.
“I think people should know what’s going on out here,” said J.D. Porter of the Porter ranching family, owners of the 5,000-acre Wiregrass Ranch, now one of the largest regional developments on Florida’s west coast.
At 31, James Don Porter is the junior member of the family that hopes to someday turn more of the cow pastures it has owned since World War II into a mega-mix. Already in the works is the hospital and community college and in talks/meetings about a 300,000-square-foot recreational attraction that includes a hockey rink, a town center “Downtown Wesley Chapel” of government offices, restaurants and shops, hotels and homes. The site as we all know is already home to the Shops at Wiregrass, a “lifestyle center” that includes 100 mall quality stores.
His father, Don, and uncles Tom and Bill, are still involved in decision making, but J.D. now holds the title of manager of the family ranch and spends the majority of his time meeting with developers and regulatory
officials. When Wiregrass’ land use attorneys show up at county meetings, J.D. shows up with them. In February he met with “Business Leaders” BNI group at Cory Lake Isles to discuss future plans. J.D. said, “If you want to see things get done faster, business owners need to be involved and attend the meetings. Don’t just complain that things aren’t happening; make it happen.”
“He really has picked all this up very quickly,” said William Merrill, the family’s land use attorney. “He’s a very fast learner and is doing a very good job for the ranch. He sees this as really becoming a destination location.”
Historically, his elders have remained tight-lipped about their plans for the property, with publicity leaking out through county records, but Porter, who is part of the social media generation, has persuaded them to rethink that position. He now handles public relations.

Every Girl Scout
Cookie Has A Mission
As part of the 2011 Girl Scout Cookie Program, Girl Scouts of
West Central Florida (GSWCF) offers the community the opportunity to donate to U.S. military troops serving overseas through its Cookies from Home program. Cookies from Home is a unique way for Girl Scouts to give back to their communities: donations of cookies through the program will be sent directly to our military troops serving in combat zones overseas through a partnership with Support Our Troops. “Life is good when you get Girl Scout Cookies,” said Steve Carney, reporter/anchor with 970 WFLA and served in Afghanistan in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to enjoying the cookies themselves, military troops also use them to build relationships with local children. “Generally, we have been [giving] the cookies and sweets to the children that we meet out on mission,” wrote a soldier serving with the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Tikrit, Iraq. “…thank you for allowing my team to give out your cookies to the needy families in Iraq. Without your help, my job would be considerably harder,” wrote a soldier serving on a reconstruction liaison team in Baghdad. In 2010, 45,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies were donated to U.S. military troops through the Cookies from Home program. Donations to the Cookies from Home Program may be made in person through a Girl Scout, booth sales or online at www.gswcf.org at anytime during the Girl Scout Cookie Program, through March 20. v
The Girl Scout Cookie Program is going mobile as part of a
national pilot program. Started in February, cookie lovers in Hillsborough and Pasco will be able to use their smart phones to find the nearest cookie booths and a list of dates and times when those booths will be open. The application, which is available for iPhones and Android devices, uses either GPS or manually entered zip codes, cities, or states to find cookie booths near the customer. The app will conveniently map those locations and add the booth information to the calendar. In addition to locating the booths, customers can learn about their favorite cookies, including nutritional values and ingredients. Cookie lovers can take a fun, interactive quiz to
learn their “cookie personalities.” The app can be downloaded free by simply calling **GSCookies (**472665437) from a mobile phone, or by searching for “Cookie Locator” in the iPhone App Store or Android Market Place. Through the cookie app, users will also be able to share booth locations, cookie information and their cookie personalities with friends on Facebook, Twitter and via e-mail. With the new cookie app and the Cookie Booth Locator, it’s easier than ever to satisfy your Girl Scout Cookie cravings! Find a booth at a Publix along Bruce B Downs or at Sam’s Club. v

With Spring just around the corner it is a great time to take a look around your property and clean/
repair shabby looking mailboxes. Following are some tips from the Meadow Pointe III/IV Homeowners Association.
CleaningMailboxes need a little attention from time to time. That’s especially true for the ones located under trees. An occasional spraying with Clorox Cleanup or a comparable product will cut through any dirt and algae with a minimum of rubbing and scrubbing. After cleaning, think about applying a coat of car wax to the receptacle to help keep it clean.
Replacement Receptacles/House numbersIf your mail receptacle can’t be cleaned, has too many dents, or has a faulty hinge, you can buy a replacement at any hardware store. Metal mailboxes have the most curb appeal, but vinyl receptacles will do, too. Only classic, curved-top rural receptacles are permitted; rectangular mailboxes are not. Replacement house numbers are available at either Home Depot or Lowes.
patchingEventually, all wood mailbox posts will need patching and paint. Minor cracks in the wood can be filled with spackle, but you’ll get better long-term results from a exterior-grade product like Elmer’s Wood Filler. If there are signs of rot in the wood, you’ll need to apply a hardener to
stabilize the wood fibers, then fill with an epoxy product made for the job. Minwax makes a good hardener and a good epoxy filler.
paintingOnce all the cracks are patched, it’s time to sand the entire surface and apply a coat of paint. The white paint on the body of the post is Behr Ultra Pure White Flat paint (#4050), available at Home Depot.
Relacement postsWood mailbox posts no longer are being produced by the original manufacturer. A few homeowners have purchased 6”x6” pieces of timber and made replacement posts that are barely distinguishable from the original. The do-it-yourself solution continues to be an option.Another alternative is a vinyl mailbox post from the company which installed the wooden models. The vinyl models are a little smaller than the original versions, and they are far less expensive.
Most residents have a post that supports just one mailbox. That costs $238 plus tax. A dual-mailbox post costs $302.40 plus tax. Installation of either style costs $40. (Professional installation is recommended, mainly because the postal service can refuse to deliver mail at mailboxes that do not conform to standards for mailbox height and distance from the curb.)
To order one of the new PVC mailboxes, call Creative Mailbox and Sign Designs – 813-818-7100 – and ask for the Meadow Pointe model. v

The Double Branch Elementary School’s Relay for Life team recently held a fundraiser which was a huge success. The students raised over $250.00! Because the students raised so much money, Mr. Chad Cram, the school’s Technology Specialist, agreed to have his very long hair cut and donated to Locks of Love! Thank you
Mr. Cram and all the students who helped raise money and support these two wonderful organizations.
Also thank you to Lauren Nicole Rivard from New Identities Hair Studios in Tampa Palms for donating her time to come to the school and perform the haircut.

The success of vaccine efforts has controlled many diseases in the US, but one vaccine-preventable disease that is currently on the rise is pertussis, commonly known as “whooping cough.”
To protect infants and children, it is important to have them immunized on time against whooping cough. Current 7th graders have been vaccinated with TDAP, which covers Pertussis. However, many current 8th graders (and older teens) have not been immunized against Pertussis, since prior to this school year, it was not recommended for 7th grade entry. For more information about pertussis vaccination, parents should consult their pediatrician or visit.
Parents may also obtain a “Pertussis Screening Form” from the JLMS clinic to bring to their child’s health care provider. Additionally, there is a brochure available in English and Spanish which explains why parents should be vaccinated against Pertussis as well.

Tammy Shaw, Meadow
Pointe IV resident, is turning things upside down at the MPIV clubhouse. Tammy, a health and physical
education teacher at Wiregrass Ranch High School, has been coaching and teaching gym-nastics for the past 25 years. Before moving to Florida, Tammy owned a successful gymnastics school in South Carolina with more than 500 students ranging from preschoolers to national level competitors. Now, a new mom, she prefers limiting her coaching time and just offering a sample of her favorite sport to her community.
Meadow Pointe Tumbles IV you currently has two classes. First, a school age class that
is for the beginning and intermediate level tumbler. They work on skills such as forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, and improving their balance while working on the balance beam. As the students progress they begin to learn more difficult skills such as front and back walkovers and roundoffs. The atmosphere is always upbeat and positive, and raising self-esteem and confidence are a continuous goal. Second, a class for preschool students age 3-5. This class also works on ba-sic gymnastics and tumbling skills but is geared for the little learner.
There is always fun music and lots of imagina-tion integrated into the class “they don’t just walk across the balance beam but “tippy toe” across and try not to wake the “sleeping an-gels” which are simply scarves and beanbags laid on the beam for them to step over.” As
always, safety, confidence, and self-esteem are the center of focus. Classes are held every Wednesday afternoon at the clubhouse. For the more serious tumbler, private lessons are available on weekly or bi-weekly schedule. Gymnastics is perfect for boys and girls. Tammy proudly admits “no other sports builds strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, speed, power, and self-confidence
like gymnastics can.” You may contact Tammy to register or for more infor-mation, at [email protected] or 813-751-4073. v

4. For places that are tricky to trim(around pipes and mailboxes, for example), consider putting in a well-mulched bed of low-mainte-nance shrubs or ornamental grass.
5. Tall grass and weeds should not be growing up through shrubbery. Mulch and edging will help protect the beds, but established grass and weeds must be pulled by hand.
6. Insects and weeds attack every lawn. Luckily, they can be con-trolled with easy-to-apply chemicals - but only if the infestations don’t go too far. Regular irrigation, a few applications of fertilizer, selective weed killers and occasional insecticide really work.
CLUBHOUSE CORNER
Pond AwarenessThere are many beautiful ponds throughout our neighborhood and along Meadow Pointe Boulevard. There are a few things you should be aware of re-garding each of these ponds. They are great to look at, but please keep in mind this is not a natural look. Each pond is maintained with safe algae controlling products that reduce the amount of vegetation in the pond. The reason ponds are sprayed is to provide residents with a more beautiful surrounding.
High vegetation areas can be a sanctuary for dan-gerous animals to hide (e.g. snakes, alligators). For this reason, the CDD does not allow fishing in any of the property ponds. In addition, please remem-ber you live in Florida. I have many residents that come in or call that seem very surprised that there is an alligator in the pond behind their house. This is not uncommon. In fact, I would be surprised if there wasn’t one there. Please, under no circumstances, feed an alligator. It doesn’t matter what size they are, they may still present a danger to small children or pets. If you are concerned about an alligator or it has become a nuisance, meaning it does not scurry into the water at the site of a human or pet and is regularly on the shore line as you pass it while mowing, call the Alligator nuisance hotline number at 1-866-392-4286. They will take your information and send a state licensed trapper to remove(harvest) the alligator.
