    What if it doesnt work?

While this type of therapy is usually veryeffective, sometimes other problems inthe neck need to be addressed before apatient will respond to strengthening.Your doctor may consider the followingif the MCU is not effective:

o Instability-This means that theligaments that hold your neckbones together may be injured ordamaged.

o Damaged neck joints-motorvehicle trauma and other injuriescan sometimes damage the neckjoints.

o Irritated or pinched nerves in theneck-When the nerves arecompressed in the neck, theirritation needs to be treatedbefore someone can effectivelystrengthen.

Its not uncommon to restartstrengthening at a later date, once theseproblems are addressed.
