Valentine's Day is coming. Sweet lovers celebrate this special day for their love, and they usually prepare gifts for each other. We all know this day is a day to show your love to your beloved one, but do you know why this romantic day is on February 14th and why it is a day for lovers?

You might have heard the name St. Val-entine, and from the name we know he was the founder of Valentine's Day. But who is St. Valentine? Why is his name associated with love and romance in February? In fact, the origin of Valentine's Day can really be dated to 1,500 years ago, as early as 270 A.D. That's a long time ago, and we are not sure if the origin is real. However, if you are interested in the story of this romantic day, this legend may give you some help.

St. Valentine was a bishop who lived around 270 A.D. in Rome. At that time, Roman emperor Claudius had prohibit-ed marriage for young soldiers, and anyone who violated this rule would be executed. The bishop held secret marriage ceremonies for soldiers. Unfortunately, the emperor heard this and he had St. Valentine

arrested.

While St. Valentine was in prison, he restored the sight of his jailer's blind daughter by his strong faith. The emperor heard this and wanted the bishop to be the God of Rome, but he refused, so the emperor put him to death. Before his execution, St. Valen-tine wrote a farewell note to the daugh-ter of the jailer and signed it, "From

your Valentine". This sentence then spread and this note is thought to be the start of sending Valen-tine's Day cards. It is said that Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14th to hon-or St. Valentine, and on this date, sweet lovers exchange their love messages. Mr. Valentine

became the "Patron Saint of Lovers".

The English writer Chaucer was the first person who connected Valentine's Day with Romans. He wrote "Chaucer and the Cult of Saint Valen-tine". In medieval England and France, people believed that birds mated on this spe-cial day and Chaucer wrote:

"For this was on St. Valentine's Day, when every fowl cometh there to

Interesting Facts

You Never Knew

“We can't help everyone, but

everyone can help someone.”

Did you know . . . The largest iceberg ever recorded was 208 miles long and 60 miles wide.

Did you know . . . The length from your wrist to

your elbow is the same as

the length of your foot.

Did you know . . . Men lose about 40 hairs a day. Women lose about 70 hairs a day.

Did you know . . . During a total solar eclipse, the temperature can drop by 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Every day we come across a myriad of problems, circumstances and issues that trigger a response from our side. Our responses are similar to the attitude we have toward life. Our attitude plays a pivotal role in our everyday life and the decisions that we make. It is therefore easy to relate to the famous statement of Winston Churchill- "It is a little thing that can make a big difference". A positive mindset will make you more upbeat, hands-on and full of confidence in anything that you are doing. Gathered here are five essential steps that you can take to create a positive outlook. 1. Make a Commitment to Yourself Decide that you want a change in your life. This is the first step that you need to take. Famous author Stephen R. Covey says that "to act is basic human nature and being proactive certainly doesn't mean that you are being aggressive or assertive". It means that a person should be willing enough to bring a change in his life and to make things right. 2. Identify the Risks One of the biggest reasons for not having a positive attitude is that people fail to identify the obstacles that may cause them to experience failures and rejections. Many in fact have a constant paranoia of failure that makes them pessimistic. This doesn't mean that you become a devil's advocate and scrutinize every endeavor that you are about to take. Just remember that you need to take risks as some are worthwhile, whereas going in blindly is irrational

and breeds uncertainty and fear. 3. Find Positive People You need to realize that you may be a negative person due to the company that you keep. Negative attitude can be like a virus and easily affect your thoughts and perspectives. Ensure that you stay away from people who delve in negativity. You should look for peo-ple who are funny, confident and filled with positivity. Remember that you will only get hurt if you let others hurt you. Therefore surround yourself with optimistic and encouraging people. 4. Exercise Regularly You need to start exercising. It is true that exercise is seen as a healthy practice for the body, but it influences the mind as well. Exercise can stimulate the brain and allow you to feel the peace and calm. A well-toned body will make you more confident and energetic. 5. Get Inspired Lastly, you should know that you can watch inspiring movies and speeches to create a positive attitude. Many successful men and women have stressed that they too once were victims of negative attitude. Listening to their stories can be stirring and rousing for you. Always rely on these resources when you are undergoing a negative mood swing. There are more things which should be considered to develop a positive attitude toward life, but the above tips can help you a lot in making some good changes in your life.
