With winter here, who has the itch to be on the snowmobile trails? We are here to help make sure you are legally and safely on those trails, sign up for our Snowmobile Safety course on Sun-day, Feb. 19 via Cathy at (815) 334-4739.

Additional information: Beginning snowmobilers will have an opportunity to learn principles of safe snowmobile operation at an Illinois Department of Natural Resources safety education course scheduled on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, Ill.

Under Illinois law, the course is re-quired for individuals 12 through 16 years old who plan to operate a snow-mobile. The course is also required for individuals who are over the age of 16 and who do not possess a valid driver’s license.

These individuals must have a Snowmobile Safety Education Cer-tificate, issued by the Department of Natural Resources upon successful completion of the course.

The Snowmobile Safety Education Certificate is recognized in other states requiring a Safety Education Certifi-cate. The Snowmobile Safety Educa-tion Certificate is required in the state of Wisconsin for anyone under the age of 27.

The minimum eight-hour course includes instruction in safe operation, rules of the road, snowmobile law, first aid, proper riding techniques and related topics that will help the snow-mobiler operate his/her vehicle safely.

More information about this class can be found at IDNR’s website: https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/sa…/Pag-es/SnowmobileSafety.aspx.

David Catlin discusses ‘Making Theatre’ at Woodstock Opera House

Actor, playwright, director and teacher David Catlin will be at the Woodstock Opera House on Feb. 16. He will be speaking on ‘Making The-atre’ for the Opera House’s Creative Living series.

Catlin will share the journey he began in 1988 at Northwestern Uni-versity with seven fellow students to redefine the limits of theatrical ex-perience, including the use of circus arts, trapeze, Spanish web, and aerial dance, to make theatre exhilarating, inspirational, and accessible to all.

The Lookingglass Theatre Com-pany has created over 60 world pre-mieres, toured to regional theatres across the country, won multiple Joseph Jefferson Awards and is the 2011 Tony Award winner for out-standing regional theatre.

The program. begins at 10 a.m. Coffee and conversation will be of-fered at 9 a.m.

McHenry County police beat

On April 10, 2016, Lake in the Hills Police Department was dis-patched to a residence on Turn-berry Ct., Lake in the Hills, Ill., for an unresponsive male who was

later pronounced dead. The LITH Police Department contacted their detective assigned to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Task Force to assist with the death

investigation. Detectives from both agencies,

during a joint investigation, uncov-ered evidence indicating the man, 26, may have ingested heroin and furanylfentanyl prior to his death. Through the investigation, detec-tives learned that Huntley resident Terrance M. Kampas, 27, had alleg-edly supplied the heroin/furanylfen-tanyl mix to him.

Over the course of nine months, detectives worked closely with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the McHenry County Coroner to collect enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Kam-pas for Drug Induced Homicide.

On Jan. 31, deputies arrested Kampas without incident at his resi-dence. He was charged with Drug Induced Homicide (class X) and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (class 2).

Nurture your potentialOn Jan. 12, the first “Nurture Your Potential” Student Conference was held for Latino students at Marengo High School. Approximately 70 students participated in the event and various staff members par-ticipated as presenters. This was a great opportunity for teachers to have conversations about minority students and their backgrounds, and for students to learn of the opportunities and support in our school community.
