Aer serving as the nurse manager in the Ob/Gyn Department for two years, Melanie Garcia, LPN decided to follow her heart and “return to the kids” in Pediatrics, where she worked previously. As Melanie transferred to Pediatrics, we were very pleased to be able to announce that Joanne Downs, RN accepted the job as Ob/Gyn Nursing Manager and began her new job on February 4th. Joanne has historically demonstrated exceptional leadership and nursing skills in Adult Medi-cine and has been a model of patient engage-ment and patient centered care. We wish both Joanne and Melanie the very best in their new roles.

For many women who are ready to consider permanent birth control, Drs. Baquero and Simon now oer a surgery-free, in-oce alternative to tradi-tional surgical interventions. e new Essure permanent birth control procedure is a quick, in-oce procedure that is hormone-free and allows most women to return to normal activities in less than a day.

is new convenient proce-dure is a great alternative for women who in the past have had to travel to Tucson for tubal ligations in a surgery center or hospital. Women who may be

ready for a permanent alternative to temporary birth control meth-ods can schedule an appointment with either Dr. Baquero or Dr. Simon to see if the Essure proce-dure is right for them.

OnBase Implementation

As we strive to make Mariposa more ecient and reduce the amount of paper, OnBase imple-mentation is moving forward. In 2010, the Administration depart-ment began implementing OnBase, a document management system to electronically store documents and les. With information easily accessible, and a large amount of space freed up, it was evident this would be a great help for other

departments.Over the last several months, Tia

has been implementing OnBase in Human Resources and Medical Sta Oce. ese two departments are already seeing the positive results and saving hours of time not having to physically le paper and search for documents, as they are now able to access information in seconds from their workstation. Be prepared to see more of

OnBase throughout as Tia begins working with the Business Oce and Accounts Payable to automate and simplify their paper processes.

MCHC annually awards two $2,500 scholarships, renewable for a second year if the student remains in good standing.

Applications may be picked up at any high school counselor’s oce

or at MCHC’s Administration Department beginning Tuesday, March 12th, 2013. Applications must be turned in to Mary Stroh-behn in Administration by close of business Tuesday, April 16th, 2013.

“We don’t do this just because it’s part of our job, we do this because it’s become a part of our lives”; “One day I had a woman walk into the department unable to look up. Her husband sat in the lobby waiting with a glum face. She walked into the room and said “I’ve tried everything, nothing looks right, I will never be me again.” I measured her, brought her a prosthetic and undergarment; helped with the fit and told her to look at herself in the mirror, she refused. I asked her again, “trust me, LOOK at yourself.” She turned and did as she was told. Tears started to roll down her cheeks. She turned and said “you have done something for me that no one has been able to do.” She walked out of that room with her head held high, her husband smiling at her as he saw her walking down the hall. They both hugged and thanked me, and of course gave a “Dios te bediga.” It feels good to know you’ve made such an impact in someone’s life! “

“Every day we are faced with new breast cancer patients walking in and out of Platicamos Salud. Word spreads very fast across our small community that there is help and hope out there for survivors and we are glad and fortunate to be able to help and be a part of their recovery and survivorship process.”; “We have a strong group of survivors and although I am not a breast cancer survivor myself like my predecessor, I sense a feeling of being needed by them like if I was their guardian. I know they need me.”

– “My main reason to participate is my mom. She is a breast cancer survivor for 13 years. Her attitude has always been positive and she never let herself get down. She is a great example of courage!”

“I wanted to be part of the team because my mother is a cancer survivor and I found it to be a great way to continue with my fitness goal.”

Anna (Dee Dee) Miranda – “I enjoy this walk. Being around so many enthusiastic and caring people, I feel GREAT!”

Edith Billy – “I want to be in the race because I have a friend that since we were girls we have been friends and she is a cancer survivor. I want to support her this year by running in the race.”

“I do this every year for my daugh-ters’ future, my patients’ future, my friends’ future, and now my own personal family history. I want to give awareness through my strength, my love, my adoration for those strong survivors and their families and for the ones we have lost. I will always continue to strive for a cure!”

“The main reason that I wanted to join this special cause, is to be part of a movement that will make a difference in someone’s life. This race will also instill empowerment within myself, embarking me in a “YES I CAN” way of thinking. I am honored to be part of Mariposas in Action, great luck to everyone involved.”

“This is my 3rd year partici-pating with Mariposas in Action and it has been a wonderful experience. It’s a really good way to de-stress yourself and at the same time support a great cause!”

“This is my second year joining the Mariposas in Action team and I am dedicating it to my grandmother who had breast cancer. It's a great cause and I am proud to be part of it!”

“Both of my grandmothers had breast cancer, and I feel good doing something for them.”

“I simply wanted to be part of some-thing important and life chang-ing, something significant.”
