LENT is almost here
This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March
1st. Lent has been observed by Christians since the
fourth century. It is a time of reflection, penitence and
spiritual renewal before Easter. Lent ends at midnight
on Holy Saturday, the night before Easter Sunday.
During Lent some Christians focus on giving up
something. Is it absolutely necessary for the observa-
tion of Lent to give up a delicacy or a bad habit or an
hour of sleep in order to pray? Who can truly say?
What one does during the Lenten period should be a
matter between a Christian and God. Some may de-
cide to do something extra for their spiritual growth.
Other may indeed “give up” something that's a hin-
drance to the spiritual life. Some may make a special
sacrifice of some sort. And some may decide to im-
prove their communication and fellowship with God by
having special times of prayer throughout the day, or
vow to worship in the church at every service held.
The important thing is to make Lent a special time,
a memorable time. A time so meaningful that it sets the
tone for the rest of the entire year. At the very least it
should be a time of sincere spiritual growth.

Mucho Gracias!!!!!!
The Honduras Mission Team would like to express its many thanks for
the items so generously contributed to the people of Honduras. These
items will benefit so many , especially children, in the villages and com-
munities. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for this
very important ministry.
THE CHILD GOT THE MESSAGE
My daughter Nancy and her husband, Juan Carlos, were in
the front seat of their car one day, my then 2 ½ -year old
grandson Kyle belted in the back seat, holding his milk bot-
tle. (The family) started the spiritual “Kum-ba-ya:
“Someone’s singing, Lord, Kum-ba-yah, / Someone’s pray-
ing Lord, Kum-ba-ya,” when all at once a little voice came
from the back seat, “Someone’s drinking milk, Lord, Kum-
ba-ya.” The kid got it! He understood that the Lord was with
him there in the back seat drinking his milk.

It has been a long and exciting, journey, but the
dream is becoming a reality. Since July, 2016, Ste-
phen Leaders have met to lay the foundation of the
McDonough Presbyterian Church Stephen Ministry.
The Ministry is blessed to have eleven members of our congregation
that have answered the call to become Stephen Ministers. The train-
ing began with an orientation meeting and will continue with regular
meetings until August of 2017. Upon completion of the training, the
MPC members will be commissioned as Stephen Ministers and the
Stephen Ministry will be fully operational.
In the training phase, the Stephen Leadership Team will walk hand in
hand with the Stephen Minister trainee. They will meet with the train-
ees as both teachers and encouragers during the intense study.
As the training moves forward, we ask for continued prayers and sup-
port from the congregation.
May The Lord walk in front of us shining a beacon of light to guide us.
May The Lord walk beside us giving resolve to our training process.
May The Lord stand behind us giving strength to provide comfort to
those who are suffering.
